    For anybody using this as an instructional video, Petko forgot to mention an important part about the extra parts of the enclosure. If you add leaf litter or live plants, you need to sanitize them first to prevent your animal from getting parasites or unwelcome guests.
    For leaves: boil and dry before use
    For live plants: make a diluted dish soap and water solution and spray on plant, remove most of the soil it came with, and wash roots if possible.
    That's all, otherwise great info and demonstration to follow for any terrarium/vivarium
    Most importantly, have fun :)

    • @judygwen3977
      @judygwen3977 4 роки тому

      Meituan people also that a lot of things come with herbicides or other poisons on them. Sometimes putting them in the freezer works for mites or other Critters. But plants definitely need washed including the roots.

    • @paul-robinfranz9272
      @paul-robinfranz9272 4 роки тому

      I agree on the plants, but if you take leaf litter or wood etc. from your nearby forest, it really is unnecessary to sanitize it, because there aren't any parasites that evolved to target tropical tarantulas or other tropical invertebrates (assuming you don't live in the same area the tarantulas are coming from). Petko lives in Croatia so there surely aren't any parasites he would have to worry about :)

    • @inarisguardian8313
      @inarisguardian8313 4 роки тому

      @@paul-robinfranz9272 Oh sorry, I wasn't thinking for specifically invertebrates. I live in Texas and used to keep reptiles, and I had to go through a mite infestation from some foliage I collected. Plus it can keep the risk of mold or fungus down, since spores can remain dormant for some time until they get wet, and that's a disaster and a half to clean up in a large terrarium.
      But that's a very good point, not many things in a local area would compete :)

    • @judygwen3977
      @judygwen3977 4 роки тому

      @@paul-robinfranz9272
      I would take the precautions anyway, just in case. Nature can be cruel too. I saw a documentary on crickets and the parasites that insect as well as other insects. All from nature. I've been known to be over cautious though. I feel there is no reason not to be.

    • @paul-robinfranz9272
      @paul-robinfranz9272 4 роки тому

      @@judygwen3977 And what does that documentary tell us about parasites found in leaf litter and wood? Nothing. The thing is, you aren't just being overly cautious by sanitizing all that stuff, you also kill off a lot of helpful little critters. I've been using locally collected forest earth for nearly all my reptiles and inverts for over 5 years now with great success! The little bugs that come with it (isopods, millipedes and others) are great for making my terrariums and other enclosures bioactive and more natural

    hey darkden just saying for safety of your lungs. the chemicals that are in Styrofoam its quite harmful when heated just say a idea for the future to protect your lungs from the chemicals as well having a handheld torch it dose not all ways burn the fuel from the tank so i am giving my concerns you dont have to read this or give a hoot but safety first right when working with venomous tarantulas and or reptiles would you not ware a face mask for a spitting cobra or use tongs to coxe a tarantula to a larger home any way thank you for being you and being a amazing tarantula youtuber or a tula tuber keep going and dont stop

      Agreed on the burning. Plus some people after watching follow blindly not knowing the dangers of the fumes. Would be better if burning is also not in enclosed area where the chemicals will be concentrated for longer periods before it dissipates, also bad for all your pets.

    I have another note on the polyfoam. Another user mentioned that you should protect yourself when burning the foam due to the chemicals present, which is definitely true. The other thing is that you should protect your animals as well. If possible, preparing the boards in advance is better, as it allows for the chemicals to 'gas out'. I used to work in a polyfoam factory, and worked with my union to obtain respirators for all staff to wear (optional, as it was a well-ventilated area). But allowing at least two weeks for the foam to sit idle will release some of the chemicals into the air, and not into the air/substrate of your animals.
