    Awesome video Paul. You explain it very well, especially about the machine vs. work piece coordinates of 0,0,0. Great work. Also, it seems that you set your machine home position to not 0,0,0, but to something like 0,0,16 so that the Z is at 16 or so when it goes to home. That makes perfect sense to me, since you want your Z axis up off the table. I think I will watch this several times. Thank you so much Paul.

    Thanks Art, for another outstanding video! Think I can see the light at the end of the tunnel on homing, limit switches, and the G54 and G55 offsets. I notice that the diagnostic screen on my demo version of Mach3 does not look the same as this video, i.e., my home switches are not labeled on my diagnostic screen. I assume you guys have changed that up on the newer version.

    Not sure if I missed this somewhere, but if your limit switches are wired together in series, you need to use the same input pin (10?) for all of them. Took me quite a while to figure this out, almost blew some magic smoke out my ears....

    Do soft limits reference machine coordinates? If I set my new zero to work on a piece say center of table will I still have protection from overun? Or does that move also move soft limits to new coords?

  • @RianoKan
    @RianoKan 11 років тому

    Don't know if you got an answer. Today my z axis would home sometimes, and come off the switch, other times it homed and then showed the z++ limit was tripped causing the machine to halt. I got a tip on the internet about setting my de-bounce to something other than 0. I started with 500, then gradually went down to 50, and now I can home and back off the switch every time. De-bounce has something to do with electrical noise.

    How to change the zero coordinates , i don't understand this point?
    Appreciate your help.

  • @RianoKan
    @RianoKan 11 років тому

    I am not an expert, but you can check that your axis limit and home are set to the correct pin, that your motor's are calibrated ( meaning they move an inch when Mach3 says they move an inch ), the axis direction is correct, and can check if homing works for an individual axis ( meaning if you have x- y- z+ switches in series on the same pin that if you separate them they can home ). I have my z axis homing, but I don't have motors and limits wired yet.

  • @WildmanTech
    @WildmanTech 7 років тому

    This is EXACTLY how my system is configured. Neither the limit switches or the soft limits do anything at all. I've had several people look at it and none have an explanation for why this does not work on my system.

    Hey Paul, great video. I am new to the CNC world and just got my first 4 x 4. However, I am using Cut2d to generate the tool path, but every once in a while the z position doesn't go up high enough when switching cuts and cuts across the material. Where is this z location to make sure that its high enough to clear the material when going to other areas of cuts on the material. This has happened 3 times but not always. I am sure its something simple but I was hoping you could help me out. I have Mach3 as well. Thanks in advance.

Are you able to tell me what i may have set wrong. Other than that the table works fine and all the motore move in the correct direction.

  • @pmsilvei

    Am I wrong when saying that the safest way to wire the limit switches, is only a matter of wiring them in a normally closed loop instead of a normally opened loop?
    It really doesn't matter if it's active high or low, does it?
    I got mine connected in a closed loop with active low (because it's getting the signal from DCM pin), and it works great. If I disconnect or cut a wire, or even open Mach 3 without turning the power supply on, it'll trigger an alarm / emergency stop. 👍🏻

    At 07:29 I think you switched the (Active High) & (Active Low) meanings by mistake... My Understanding is that: an Active High is a circuit where the switch "Goes High when Activated" [ie. Normally Open], and Active Low is a switch that "Goes Low when Activated" or Activates when Low [ie. Normally Closed] (and this is the safest I guess)

      If it's after new scrips being added there is a error in the scripts are newly added delete them all start over!,
      If it happened randomly try reinstalling Mach3!,
      If it happened after you installed mach3 and first go an error the windows or linux your using is having an error it's self and needs to be fixed!

      Move the router manually to a Z value above the highest point on your work, then press the "Reference All" button in Mach3, then re-zero everything and instead of going down into the table when your G-Code tells the machine to go to home, it will go to that point above your work.

    • @terjeoseberg990
      @terjeoseberg990 5 років тому

      @@abriestrauss5580, It has nothing to do with a full version of Mach3 or not. It has to do with the G-Code sending the tool to home and the configuration of Mach3 setting home to somewhere below the work table.

      Here is what I did to make the cut same as the plotted actual size.
      1. get a pencil and insert it to the chuck (find ways to make it snap like a bit) don't run the spindle of course
      2. now to you need the trial and error...on your CAM-cad just draw a 90 degree line with a length of your choice. (i did 100mm)
      3 generate toolpath engrave just barely touching the material Zero in on the junction of the 90 degree angle line and start it from there..(material i used is just a piece plain A4 size
      4. load the g-code (noting all of those X-Y-Z axis motor tuning especially the steps (mine with stepper 1.8 degree, 200 steps per rev ..2mm pitch lead screw --this is the standard,
      NOTE: if u have input the 200 steps on the motor tuning..it will plot very small, tried that) from 200 go down to 28 steps inputted then test..)
      if the line plotted measured 100mm then you got the steps correct, if not or just let us say 95mm when measured then try the 29 steps so on and so forth)..until the plotted line gets the 100mm measured length.
      acceleration and velocity settings is how the motor wil turn fast or slow and so play with it, not all stepper can run the same speed with same settings. there are NEMA17 that can run 200 acceleration, others cannot. So with an unknown stepper like mine which by the way I am using UNIPOLAR steppers from old photo copiers. I just played those settings until i got the right one for my steppers, and they work perfectly.
