I genuinely think that how captain Titus was depicted in Space Marine (as true Ultra-Marine, not a nerd-marine) and positively recived by the fanbase, paved a way for Ultra-marine characters and the chapter as a whole to develope into a more interesting subfaction.
Ya and Titus really embodies what the ultramarines should be at their core imo. He's heroic, adaptable, willing to do use unorthodox tactics not just follow the codex like a certain squadmate of his, and is a total badass
honestly, this may be a hot take, but I think Leandros gets more shit on than he deserves. After all, it is (or at least was until recently) a big problem within the Ultramarines that way too many of them had a stick up their behind when it came to sticking to the codex. Honestly it's a miracle Leandros was the only one in the game to question any deviation from the codex. And sure, him ratting out Titus to the Inquisition was a dickmove, however after all we know about chaos and warp fuckery, he had every reason to be concerned after Titus was carrying the Warp buttplug for such a long time and was able to touch it no problem. I'd argue half of the Ultramarines at the time would have done the same. And any Black Templar around would have shot Titus on the spot. Leandros telling the Inquisition and them just taking Titus away for investigation was the most lenient way to handle the situation honestly. Also he got to kick ass in the Deathwatch for a century or two, so I'd say it's a win for him.

Lol it got much bigger during their Isolation in the Ultramar sector after losing so much from lorgar, the smurfs were able to replenish the lost marines in calth, it's even indicated they reached the same number the had before logars attack, so yeah read the lore before providing an argument, cause it's the smurfs Territory and logistics that made them a large legion not just because 2nd and 11th were adopted.
I had a friend once describe why the Ultramarines were the 'poster-child' the 'most-successful' chapter. He put it like this: Each Space Marine chapter is 'the best' at something. One chapter has the 'fastest' guys. Another has the 'strongest melee'. Another is the 'stealtiest'. Now, the Ultramarines are 'good' at all of that, but where they excel is... 'logistics'. Territory the Ultramarines will stay with the Imperium longer, and they are the best supplied, best supported Chapter. They don't do any ONE thing better than the other chapters except take care of their stuff. And in a war spanning 10,000 years, that is really the deciding factor.
Theyre not posterchilds because they have the best logistics, they have the best logistics because they need an excuse to make them the poster child over the rest of the chapters
I'm a Salamanders enjoyer but the Big Blues are still good dudes. I'm so excited for Space Marine 2 and to see where Titus's story goes and to maybe see Malum Caedo again.

I'm a relatively new fan of Warhammer 40k, I've been aware of it for decades, and even when I could only name a few things from the setting like "Imperium" and "God Emperor", the other term I was familiar with was "Ultramar", even though I didn't know what it even meant. When I discovered the Primaris Marines, I got more interested in Warhammer because finally the super soldiers had slightly more normal proportions with their armour. The fact that Primarchs were returning to the setting was also interesting to me. This year I read my first Warhammer novels, I started with Lion, Son of the Forest, and then read the Dark Imperium trilogy. My favourite chapters also happened to be the Dark Angels and Ultramarines due to their themes and colour schemes, so the fact that they both have their Primarchs back is awesome! I haven't started collecting the miniatures yet, because I discovered the Joytoy line of action figures so am collecting those first. As a kid I always loved the models, but lamented that I had to construct and paintthem myself and without some modifications, they mostly wouldn't be pose able or have interchangeable weapons. The Joytoy figures are EXACTLY what I've always wanted from Warhammer! :D
Also during the heresy they were doing better than pretty much anyone, and were among the 3 legions that Horus wanted to keep as far away from Terra as possible. There’s a reason for that and they haven’t decayed nearly as much as many other chapters.
i like the way the space marine games show the flaw of the ultra marines in a more realistic manner than being too good at their job. in the first game, stink-andros snitches on you because he's so gung ho for the codex, and then in the second game it shows with the problems titus and gadriel have, gadriel feels snubbed and turns that into suspicions that makes the team work less effectively.
Dude, just discovered your videos, and I love them! Your drawings combined with humor, memes and lore is just perfect! And I would love to learn more about Roboute Guiliman, Cato Sicarius etc. in another video.
Thanks for this vid Krak Duck 💙🤍 Ultras were my first army back when I started in 03, and been a fan of them growing up! Excited to play as the boys in blue again soon!
The Ultramarines geneseed “flaw” towards rigid doctrine and command structure doesn’t sound bad until you see guys like Leandros and situations like the Tyrannic Wars where they actively hindered themselves by not thinking freely.
Surprised why the heck Black Consuls didn't gone dead by any alien they see? They are even more zealously follow codex than Ultras or other Ultra chapters. Basically Chapter of Leandroses with cool colour-scheme and awesome badge (Eagles are my favourite birds)
I am super excited for Space Marine 2 so I watched a like 30+ minute video on all the different Space Marine factions or whatever you want to call them. I do like these “smaller” videos you make because they go into more detail and are easier to understand than like a minute and a few seconds for I believe 18 different factions. (I say smaller because yes this video is shorter than the long one I watched but also that video talked about a bunch of factions while yours focus on 1 at a time). My only experience with Warhammer 40k is Vermintide 2, Darktide, Space Marine 1 and soon Space Marine 2. I was thinking about getting Boltgun especially now since I learned it is kinda Space Marine 1.5 (first person shooter that finishes the job that started in Space Marine 1 with small references…. possibly just the character you play as in that game mentioning Titus in an emote/taunt).
as a warhammer newbie, i like the Ultramarines BECAUSE theyre the posterboys. i feel like they make sense, as they arent bloodthirsty psychopaths, and they arent nice guys like the Salamanders (but the Salamanders and all their successor chapters will always be my faves)
Never knew anything about 40k other than the name and the Space Marines looked cool. Just finished SM2 and very much enjoyed it. These videos have been very helpful to fill in some gaps answer questions.
My favorite chapter is the Void Tridents, basically actual marines of the space marines. High and quick invasion status, heavy Weaponry and light vehicles
Love the Ultramarines, especially the Captain Titus story line. Just love the Compassion and Sacrifice of the Salamanders and the Lamenters a little more.
I mean at the end of the day you need a group like the Ultramarines in the setting and the game itself so all the other wild stuff stands out more. Like you need a Liu Kang or the Ryu to be grounded and standard so the Scorpions and Blankas get to shine. It's like a straight-man archetype character in a setting to juxtapose against the goofier characters.
I would love to see your take on the Badab War! It doesn’t get as much airtime as the Heresy but I really like the idea of modern SM chapters fighting modern SM chapters. (And maybe there’s a chance the Sons of Medusa could be mentioned!)
Ultramarines are my favorite battlefield decoration. a head laying on the ground here, an arm flying through the air there, a Man of Iron ripping an Ultrasmurf down the middle and holding half of the corpse up for all to see while the other half is thrown clean through an Ultrasmurf Dreadnought and turning the techpriest behind it into paste and spare parts. must have wiped out fifty full chapters worth of them in the Skirmish modes on Dark Crusade and Soulstorm, by now.
Ultramarines are my favourite, they were the first ones I saw that make me have some interest in warhammer lore, and it started all because the blue marines in starcraft they are similar.
The hating corruption thing, made me think of something. When Big Papa Smurf woke up and found out about that state of the imperium. He wanted to clean house, and to an extent he did. However he could not touch the Ecclesiarchy, he had to work with them. However when Lion El'Jonson returned, he mainly ignored the Ecclesiarchy. Then again, Lion is not the Lord Commander of the Imperium.
I reallly like your videos, I’m a huge fan of your light-hearted take on the WH40k universe. Yeah, I know the universe is grim and dark, but let’s not forget to have fun! After all, that’s why we all love it, right?
I lone Ultramarines, all my mates hate on me for collecting and painting them, but I sill love them. Also, love Guilliman in the books, especially in the Dark Imperium books
My favored Legion/Chapter is the Imperial Fists, as I relate to their Primarch, and like the vibe of being codex compliant out of spite for the fact it exists. Also it's a good note that the precedent of the Indomitus crusade has non-verbally notified the Fists that their Primarch's ideals were, in fact, viable and needed. I'm glad that the Ultramarines are getting back to their Roman themes, instead of the Matt Ward era Smurfs that were just "the perfect baseline" when being the best overal basis is what the Imperial Fists are about, being the stalwart brick wall they have been trained to be. I also do enjoy that Guilliman's Ultra-depression is sprinkling down the ranks through his legion, the Ultramarines being perfectionist due to their failure to reach Terra on time to save the Emperor is a nice detail that makes them less bland to me. While the Imperial Fists are the best they can be out of pride for their performance in holding Terra against all of Hell and actually winning, the UM are perfectionist out of shame for not bringing assistance until the very end, far too late.
Here's mine 1-Luna Wolves (Horus, Abby, Loken, Torgy, Aximand, Kibre and Ekaddon. My precious wolves) 2-Ultramarines (Marneus casting fist every chance he get, Sicarius being grizzled yet still arrogant killing machine, Titus being unorthodoxal, Caedo being Doomslayer coloured blue) 3-Thousand Sons (Magnus did everything wrong) 4-Blood Ravens (my magpies sometimes going to Prospero to rest with their Thousand Son predeccesors) 5. Dark Angels (ASMODAI!)
Most Warhammer lore videos I don't watch i just listen to. But yours are way too fun to watch i have to keep my screen on😂 also "oh shit they have the power of critical thought!" Killed me

8:20 they both (ultramarine and anakin) have blue but want to have red.
Hahahahahah 😂😂
I’m shocked at how “new” this channel is. Thought it had been making videos for years with how good the quality is.
they are really trying to make the smurfs cool with Titus and Malum Caedo
Theyre succeeding in that front, Caedo is super beloved as is titus. I bet SM2 will boost the UM even more
i like the way the space marine games show the flaw of the ultra marines in a more realistic manner than being too good at their job. in the first game, stink-andros snitches on you because he's so gung ho for the codex, and then in the second game it shows with the problems titus and gadriel have, gadriel feels snubbed and turns that into suspicions that makes the team work less effectively.
Ultramarines vs tau:
„Do you think they feel pain?“
I hope so…
Ahem, based department?
@@KrakDuk i think it was cato shitarius in the book blade of damocles who said this gem.
9:50 that’s after Corvus beat Guilimen 3 times in a row but didn’t beat him after that
So that’s the origins of the red helmet for certain space marines, that’s neat.🐱
Yep a cool bit of lore to explain a cool paint scheme!
Easily my current favorite channel. I'm a 40k noob to the lore and your videos are always amazing to watch. Thank you!

Dude, just discovered your videos, and I love them! Your drawings combined with humor, memes and lore is just perfect!
And I would love to learn more about Roboute Guiliman, Cato Sicarius etc. in another video.
Thanks for this vid Krak Duck 💙🤍
Ultras were my first army back when I started in 03, and been a fan of them growing up!
Excited to play as the boys in blue again soon!
Man, this guy is funny. and the way he covers the lore is pulling me to the Warhammer universe even more. Love your vids dude.
Remember The Ultra Marines only have plot armor because the Orks Believe they do
I'd never heard this theory until just now and it's disturbing how much sense it makes l😂
I always did like them for emphasizing adaptable tactics and well they look cool too.
I like the Ultramarines. I have one as the design on my prosthetic leg. I also like the Blood Angels, Blood Ravens, and Space Wolves. Awesome.
These videos help with studying since im so new Warhammer and hyped for space marines
9:12 LEANDROOOOOOOOS
The Ultramarines geneseed “flaw” towards rigid doctrine and command structure doesn’t sound bad until you see guys like Leandros and situations like the Tyrannic Wars where they actively hindered themselves by not thinking freely.
Surprised why the heck Black Consuls didn't gone dead by any alien they see?
They are even more zealously follow codex than Ultras or other Ultra chapters. Basically Chapter of Leandroses with cool colour-scheme and awesome badge (Eagles are my favourite birds)
BLUEBERRIES FOR THE BLUEBERRY GOD
TOILET FOR THE TOILET THRONE
I would love to see you cover the Carcharodons A.K.A. Space Sharks. They have been my most fave in most of em
Fun video my dude, keep it up I love your videos
8:44 amazing
As an afflicted, this made me laugh way more than it should have, well played... 3:30 😂
Ultramarines are like US in WWII. Industrial might and unparalleled logistics
Hell yeah)). Only one thing is left. GUN CULTURE!
as a warhammer newbie, i like the Ultramarines BECAUSE theyre the posterboys. i feel like they make sense, as they arent bloodthirsty psychopaths, and they arent nice guys like the Salamanders
(but the Salamanders and all their successor chapters will always be my faves)
Awe man. That red helmet lore finally won me over. That's pretty cool.
Never knew anything about 40k other than the name and the Space Marines looked cool.
Just finished SM2 and very much enjoyed it. These videos have been very helpful to fill in some gaps answer questions.
Blueberries for life, ultramarine are best
As a new player to the table top. Ultramarines were the first and still only faction I like! Starting to really like Astra Militarum too! 😊
The Captain underpants reference was so unappreciated. I SEE YOU KRAKDUK
'Nevada Marines', love it.
I love the green marines. I’m building my first ever army (dark angels) but if I ever make a second it’ll be salamanders
I am currently reading dark imperium and that is what encouraged my obsession with 40k and the ultramarines
As somebody from nevada yes ultramarines have been recruited not from Vegas but from reno and Wendover but only the nevada half of Wendover
I really loved the Ultramarine portrayal in the FFG games, i wouldnt be surprised if Titus was inspired by the Deathwatch books.
To add to their coolness, their paintjob looked the best in first DoW games
“I like winners”
-Krak Duk, the Cadian fan
"one of the best, if not THE best" should be a channel quote by now
Yo that red helmet actually goes pretty hard had me crying
This is one of the best, if not THE best videos yet
They also have one of the best successor chapters, The Iron Snakes of Ithaka
The best chapters:
1-salamanders
2-deathguard
3-ultramarines
4-everyone else
Here's mine
1-Luna Wolves (Horus, Abby, Loken, Torgy, Aximand, Kibre and Ekaddon. My precious wolves)
2-Ultramarines (Marneus casting fist every chance he get, Sicarius being grizzled yet still arrogant killing machine, Titus being unorthodoxal, Caedo being Doomslayer coloured blue)
3-Thousand Sons (Magnus did everything wrong)
4-Blood Ravens (my magpies sometimes going to Prospero to rest with their Thousand Son predeccesors)
5. Dark Angels (ASMODAI!)
4:04 calth recreation
Please make a video on the imperial fists they are my favorite chapter.
8:25 I died with the "erm... The Codex Astartes" joke
You missed Robust Girlyman on the jokes, Amazing video as always
Roberto Guillermo
For me there they are the poster boys, but i "grew" with Blood Ravens and have a silly fond of Angry Marines.
Most Warhammer lore videos I don't watch i just listen to. But yours are way too fun to watch i have to keep my screen on😂 also "oh shit they have the power of critical thought!" Killed me
Them dudes playing craps with their free liquor is funny. Great video as always. You can make any subject interesting and watchable. 1:47
I love seeing Robert Guyman’s marines getting a Krak Duk video!
