Minelab PRO-FIND 40 EXCLUSIVE First Look! Unboxing And Review | Stef Digs | Metal Detecting
After using a pinpointer like the Sphinx 03, I’m not impressed. Sphinx has its own app, magnetic on/off, iron tone, and more.
Interesting - that’s actually one I haven’t even heard of. Is it popular in other countries? 🧐
@@StefDigs yes, Russia and Eastern Europe. It’s harder to get here in the West, but it can be done.
That’s very interesting - I’ll certainly take a look at it for the sake of curiosity!

Just found your channel via the Minelab website. After watching this great review you did of the Minelab Pro-find 40, you hae a new subscriber! Looking forward to watcing all of your detecting videos!
Thank you so much! Really appreciate that - glad you enjoyed the video!
One of the better reviews on this pinpointer .
Thank you! Appreciate that! 😊
@@StefDigs minelab for life. Babe .
Just getting started in metal detecting, and your video sure helped me to find a pinpointer. Your demonstration on depth detection was awesome! Thank you!
Thank you so much, really appreciate that! 😊 Best hobby there is - to making many finds you never thought possible! 🥂
I’m a Minelab guy all day! I have convinced so many friends wanting to get into the hobby to buy an equinox, however I hated my Minelab pinpointer and bought a garret carrot. I will always swing a Minelab but my yellow pinpointer sits in the bottom of my detector bag where it will never get used.
You may be very surprised with the Pro-Find 40… just sayin’! 😊
I’m using the XP MI-6 only becuase Minelab has yet to produce a rechargable pinpointer and the reason I retired my Garrett. I own Minelab detectors, and wish the 40 would have had been rechargeable along with the updates as it would be part of my gear. Maybe the next update will be...
Fantastic review of the brand new Minelab Pro-find-40 Stef🙂 Very enjoyable video to watch. Take care and happy hunting out there⛏️
Thanks Luke! Appreciate you stopping by! 😊
Seems decent, but nothing beats the old White's TRX. If any of mine ever wear out (one is 12 yrs old) I may consider the 40.
It’s better than I had anticipated, for sure! Oh man, that TRX was something else… I actually found one at a cellar hole years ago that was still working. A friend wanted it so I sold it to him, lol. Only find I’ve ever sold! 😂
Thank you, that was a very good review, definitely going to get it and use my old pro 35 as a back up .
Awesome! I've really been loving mine - the rapid re-tune feature comes in SO handy and the increase in sensitivity is far more noticeable in the field than what I was able to capture on film for the depth tests!
The fact this pinpointer uses a 9volt battery is an absolute turn off. In 2023 there is no reason why it shouldn’t have a rechargeable battery. It’s hard to believe it also doesn’t have wireless connectivity although not a deal breaker it’s just a let down.
Totally understand that, I respect your opinion! I will say the depth and stability were much improved from the 35, so this would be a great next Pinpointer for someone who has a 35 that needs to be replaced because it’s getting old.
A rechargeable usb 9v is pretty cheap, I’ve been using one in my profind35 for the last few years, and the same one in my profind 15
The reason I did come here to comment though, was this review didn’t show us the battery. It looked like a minelab one and was hoping it was rechargeable,
What I’m disappointed about, is it doesn’t have replaceable tip covers, I wore the tip off my profind15. And have sourced my own tip covers to stop it wearing out agian
@@TheViewInWellington100% the tips should be standard shipped in the boxes at this point. As soon as I got my PP I went to the recharging battery, but honestly at this point for the $$ any decent PP should be rechargeable.
@@TheViewInWellington sorry about that - I had thought the battery was pretty visible. The tip protection is a wonderful idea, I’ll be sure to pass it on!
Why would you prefer a rechargeable pin pointer… it’s something else you have to remember to change along side your detector and headphone set, and if you’re out detecting for a long period of time and you don’t have access to a power source you’re up the creek without a paddle..
a spare battery doesn’t take up much space in your pouch, if you don’t want to use normal 9 volt batteries use rechargeable versions have two possibly three in your pouch ready to use when one is dead.. much easier option than just a rechargeable unit
I enjoyed this video a lot - great job! One thing I've never understood though is the bluetooth option. I know you said you just use vibrate mode but I prefer to hear the sounds and don't want to disturb others when using my pinpointer. Maybe the majority of people don't care but I love that option with my Garrett pinpointer! ❤
Nothing wrong with that Pinpointer! That’s what I used for years until I got together with Minelab. 😊 Thanks for watching! This is what I’ve been up to for a couple of weeks, hence the lack of regular hunting videos - they’ll be back soon! 😉
@@StefDigs You know I'll always watch, even if it's a Minelab review! 😆
@@elisabethcole2571 it’s true! 😂 I appreciate you always watching and commenting - you rock!
Excellent tutorial and review. Made the purchase. Good on Ya!
Thank you! Hope you enjoy the pinpointer! 😊
Thank you Stef for sharing with us.I enjoyed it.
Thanks Jimmy, glad you did! This was tough to keep a secret from all of you, but what an honor it has been to help Minelab release a new product that just happened to be what I was hoping for. 😊
Me too I take Minelab very seriously the rest are just toys. Thank you for the review. I’m definitely buying one
Thanks for watching! You won’t be disappointed - nice revision to the 35. 😊
Excellent video!! I bought one. Works just like you said. Easy and effective.
Thank you! And that’s awesome, I’ve definitely been enjoying mine! 😊
Hi Stef, I use the 35 and I actually turn down the sensitivity, it’s easier to deal with mineralisation, but I can see the advantage using the 40 when I’m hunting parks for fresh drops that are only a few inches down, it’s easier to pin point the size of the target and less digging,
Overall I’m quite happy with my pro find 35 so I won’t be rushing to get the same thing for a few millimeters of depth.
Hey, if the 35 is working well for you, that’s awesome! I consider this to be a pinpointer for “next time,” meaning when people need a replacement for their current unit. Great option when you do need it! 😊
Excellent video thanks.
Thanks so much! 😄
Most coins are not on there sides 😅 Would of like to of see a 3 some with the Garrett ;)
They definitely can be, lol. The point was to show the difference between the 40 and the 35. I won’t be doing a Garrett comparison as I am partnered with Minelab, but there are other channels who’ve done so. Worth a look!
Hi stef I am finding this pinpointer a bit excitable a little bit more than the garret carrot but still excited to use it
Right on! It’s a great pinpointer! 😊
I bought one on the strength of this video. Thanks!
Awesome! Hope you’re enjoying it! 😊
Great vid as always, you put your heart into this one ❤️ I much appreciate the info on this pin pointer 😊 HH and take care 😊
Thanks so much! Was a great experience! 😊
Great job Stef. Thank you!
Thanks for watching! 😊
Nice run through Stef. Good to talk about the features but better to show them in action. Increased sensitivity was a good one to see. Less damage to targets in the ground cos you can pinpoint them earlier. Will be getting one tomorrow when I head back into work. Take care mate 🦘🦘👍😁
Awesome, hope you enjoy yours! I would have loved to do more filming outside, but we had constant thunderstorms for almost 2 weeks. 😬 At least it’ll make an appearance in other videos. 😊
Sold. Well done. I am getting a Pro Find 40.
Awesome! You’ll love it - I’ve been quite impressed!
Nice!!!!!! Something else to spend my money on😂😂. Great preview Stef👍🏻👍🏻.
Haha, thanks Ethan! Let me know if you want one - I'm making a list! 🙂
Great video, Steph! I’m a huge Minelab fan, but not sure I’m ready to replace my trusty carrot with the 40. Certainly looks like an improvement over the 35. Like the other posters, I really wish they would come out with a Bluetooth option like the Garret Z-Link or what deus does with theirs.
Thank you for the review and video! I’m a huge fan of yours
Thanks for the kind words! 😊 I don’t blame you for not wanting to switch right away, nothing wrong with a carrot. Might be a good option for your next, though! I was so happy to see the 35 was improved via the 40 - been enjoying it!
Thanks Stef for the review.
Thanks for watching, my friend! 😊
Well I think it’s a BEAUTIFUL thing I’m due for an upgrade do this’ll be the one, 😀❤️❤️❤️🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺❤️❤️❤️well presented Stef, Brun
Thank you so much! It’s a wonderful improvement from the 35. You’ll love it!
Great video and luv the hair!! I'd like to point out that when you were testing the depth between the 35 and 40 you were testing against the edge of the coins not the obverse/reverse - maybe a follow up where you retest from above the coin laying flat on the table and test showing from what height it starts and then reaches solid tone and see what kind of results you get there, as there is more surface area for the pinpointer to pick up on. Coins are found on all sorts of angles so testing one angle only (the hardest one) doesn't give a fair example of the differences and the strengths of the 40. You've gained a new subscriber btw :)
Thanks so much for watching! I may do additional videos - and yes the angle of the coin versus pinpointer definitely makes a difference. My primary focus was to highlight the difference over the 35, and I’m happy that was able to come through even with coins on edge. Been enjoying it so far! Thanks for the sub, as well! 😊
Great review Stef. Two thumbs up 👍 👍
Thank you! Appreciate the kind words! 😊
Brilliant on power.
Indeed it is! Quite a bit more sensitive than the 35.
Got the m9 coil yet for manticore unreal star wars gear bush chook. Top video mate.
Thank you! I don’t, but hopefully will soon! 🤞🏻 Whenever I do get my hands on one, I’ll be uploading videos.
@@StefDigs off the chart punches 10 ins ➕ any ground separation off the chart even if a hand full of nails were on top of the coin unrealistic. Crazy brilliant.

Hey hey! Thanks for swinging by, my friend! 😊
Great video. Do you still use the 40? I'm looking for the most sensitive (detects from the farthest away) pointer and leaning toward the 40.
Consider me subscribed.
@@skylardean4540 thanks for subscribing! Yes, I do - that’s still the latest Minelab Pinpointer so until they make another one, it’s the 40! 😁
Awesome video Steff
Thank you! 😊
The Fisher F-Pulse is 10 times more sensitive and works in mineral soil and salt water
That’s not a bad pinpointer, although I’ve only seen comparison videos to other pinpointers and not the 40. This video was meant to compare the 35 to 40.
Pretty sweet. great review Stef 💪
Thank you! Very happy with the 40! 🤘🏻
Great review Stef
Thanks Tony! I’m loving the Pinpointer!
Great review and it looks good, 9v battery should be rechargeable ?? And the one touch retune button is a good feature my PulseDive has that use it all the time, I'm waiting for the new Nokta Acupoint which will have all that ferrous and non ferrous, retune, rechargeable and will connect to my headphones which will be great in the winter (keep my ears warm) 😂 thanks for the review looks like a good upgrade to the 35 👍 👌
Thanks for watching! The 9V isn’t rechargeable but I’m enjoying the improved stability and increased depth. 😊
@@StefDigs Good luck wishing you lots of interesting finds 👍🤞
@@rudigginit thank you! 😊
Very good job Stef! Lets. Talk soon
Thanks, my friend! Let’s! 😊
Thanks
Thanks for watching!
Ah, so you must call the Re-tune feature the STFU button! 😂👌
Ding ding ding! Correct, sir! 😂
Let down for me. 10% more power isn’t enough to catch up to the MX6 or Carrot. Can’t Bluetooth to the headset and still not a rechargeable battery.
This is very comparable to the carrot in terms of depth, but with the addition of ferrous tone ID, I like it better than the carrot. I'm pretty sure that, given the price point, this was never meant to compete with an *MI6.
UA-cam isn't translating this comment for me, but thanks for watching.
Hi there is it possible to turn off the audio and just get the vibration
Yes! All you do is hold down the power button and “-“ sign at the same time while turning it on, and it’ll be in vibration mode.
Many thanks 😊 🙏
I bought a pro find 35 thinking it would be good , it was for a short time but the rubber coating over the on / off switch soon split allowing water and dirt to leak in and kill it 😠 .Minelab have great tech but cheaping out on subcontracting out production to an offshore factory sucks, wobbly shafts and broken coil ears on the nox also shows excetutive cash grabbing
Hope you gave customer service the chance to make it right. And actually, everything you mentioned has already been addressed with the 700/900 and the Pro-Find 40.
@@StefDigs I gave up on the pro find 35 Stef but my nox 800 on/ off switch broke recently and Minelab have stepped up to replace the module so am very happy with that. I understand it is a very competitive market and everyone needs to make a buck but customer satisfaction means a lot these days when it is so easy to write a review that the world can see 😉
@@steveshepherd2712glad you got the 800 sorted out! I agree with you, customer satisfaction is so, so important.

Hi i just recieved my first ever pinpointer , Minelab pro find 40 upon inspection the tip has a small off white spot like the coating didn't completely cover? Anyone else have this on there's?
Hmm, that is odd - I’ve yet to hear anything about this. Contact Minelab directly and take photos, should customer care inquire. If you’re in the US, the email is: service@minelabamericas.com and the number is 877-767-6522.
@@StefDigs Thank you!
I'd show you pics here but i can't.
Why lay the coin flat..
Don't understand...hard to get a solid measur.e..
Simple: I was drawing a comparison to the 35, which I did. Pretty clear improvement over the 35, as well.
The 35 was junk, the 40 looks to have a few of the problems of the 35 fixed. The 35 has put me off Minelab pinpointers, what a waste of money it was. Hopefully they've let one of the detector engineers help with the making of the 40 and not left it up to the first year apprentice like the 35. Great detectors, pitiful pinpointers.
The 40 evidently saw a lot more testing with engineering in order improve upon stability, in particular. I was very happy to see the 35 improved upon, absolutely! Exactly why I mentioned in the video that I’ve heard complaints, because that’s the truth.
@@StefDigs That's good news, stability was the biggest issue with the 35, so if they've fixed that it will be a reasonable pinpointer. I found I had to run my 35 on quite low sensitivity levels or it was just annoying to use but then it had far worse performance than just about every other pinpointer even extremely cheap generic ones.
@@phrunt They definitely recognized the concerns and addressed them, 100%!
@@StefDigs Thanks, that's great news, lost me as a pinpointer customer after the 35 but at least future buyers won't end up with the nightmare I've had as long as they discontinue the 35.
@@phrunt they won’t be discontinuing the 35 any time soon, however I expect many new customers will opt for the 40, anyway. 😊
Why don't minelab have pinpointer linked to headphones
Can’t say I know for sure. For me, it’s never been an issue, but I understand it’s a feature that others were looking for.
@StefDigs I'm using garrett and it's fully wireless so for me it's 100% better I can hear all small sound. In headphones rather taking off all time
@@samsungcrossland2036 absolutely - although I’ve received quite a few negative comments relating to this topic, I felt it was crucial to include it in the video so that people have all of the information they need to determine if it’s for them or not. Even though I’m partnered with Minelab, I’ve always had the attitude that as long as people are happy with what they’re using and enjoying themselves, then that’s truly all that matters. The hobby itself is more important than anything else! 🤘🏻
I wish it was blue tooth optional
I know - it’s not an issue for me and never has been, but I am sure many would’ve enjoyed a wireless audio experience. Never know what the future holds, though! Minelab is always up to something! 😊
Yuck its got a battery ,deal breaker for me, i use the Nokta pulse dive pinpointer pulse induction with my nox 800 with excellent results , but its got a rechargeable battery that lasts for a month straight on one charge. Same specs as this one with way more
Whatever works for you, go for it! 😊 This video’s not meant to convince anybody into buying one, just meant to show the comparison between the Pro-Find 40 versus 35.
I paid $269 australian yesterday
Glad you were able to get one so quickly!
👌
Thanks for watching! Hope you have one in-hand soon - I’m sure you’ll be pleased!
Again a dissapointment .First of all...big Minelab fan here ..now owning the Manticore. But again having to change the battery means NO for me. Also had 2 p.p before who were defect within months. Also not impressed with the depth "improvement" .Again...love the detectors but still waiting for a real improvement on the p.p. Come on Minelab...impress us 😉
Hey, no worries! Glad you enjoy the Manticore. It’s an incredible machine, I love mine!
@@StefDigs Me to! 👌
Look up the Sphinx 03 Pinpointer if you want to be impressed
@@Mr.Technical77 Available in Europe? With the sanctions?
You don’t have to change the battery, Buy a usb 9v one, lasts years, or buy multiple usb 9v. So much easier than the Pinpointers that are sealed up, that you can’t swap batteries out ,
I learnt after the first couple weeks I’m not gonna buy a new 9v every 30hours, so bought a usb rechargeable one,
My piece of sh** profind 35 just died all of the sudden. I've had nothing but problems. I would buy toys if it wasn't that the 35 have me such a sour taste. I am thinking of going with the Garrett carrot.
Ouch, sorry to hear that! 😔 I’ve gone through a few different pinpointers over the years. The 40 is definitely improved over the 35.
@@StefDigs I am right now trying to make the decision on whether to give minelab a second chance or to with the garrett carrot. Everyone keeps telling me the garrett is a no fuss great pointer.
@@Shedding I definitely can’t argue with that - I’ve had them last for a while, but I went through 2 of them in my first few years before I was partnered with Minelab. The fault was mine, though, as I had a habit of digging with the pinpointer a bit… sooo a hole or two formed in the tip of each. 😂 I know they make little rubber tips for them though, you can find them on eBay if you go the carrot route. Good luck with whatever you choose!
@StefDigs mine died when I cleaned the dirt with water. I thought it was water proof. I won't be doing it again. I am going to get the minelab. I am hoping they don't disappoint with the 40. I have the manticore, and hopefully this pairs up well. Thank you for your video and the help.

@@StefDigs be in last 10 videos make sure ya view.
What a total disappointment!!!!!
Minelab really missed the boat on this!!!!!
1- With all their new detectors using their new wireless…. Why not let this pair with these detects so we can hear it in our headphones, rather than disturbing everyone around us?
2- why the old school and expensive 9v battery? Using 2- aa batteries is much cheaper and lasts longer, or use rechargeable built in.
3- give us something revolutionary instead of only slightly better than the profind 35…. My old Whites TRX is far superior to the profind 35, both in depth of detection and detection of much smaller items.
Minelab you can do sooo much better than this.
Between this sorry excuse for a Pinpointer and you locking down the wireless on our detector so we cannot use third party earbuds (to address our each individual fit and needs), I am quickly losing faith in minelab as a company. You have quit thinking about your customers and are trying harder to please your stock holders. --- the best way to please the stockholders ( in the long run) is to please your customers….. from us customers is where you get the money to please the shareholders.
Appreciate your comment. I know not everybody will be thrilled with every product. Personally, I’ve noticed a great improvement. Perhaps engineering will see your comment - I’m just the messenger. 😉
Great detectors. Pin-pointers not so much.
Definitely improved from all of the others in the line up - I was more impressed than I thought I would be! 😊
Thanks for the tutorial Stef!! It looks like a good contender. Although I’m gonna stick with my “carrot“ since it’s still fairly new , it’s nice to see they are addressing issues that are being brought up. A friend has a 15 he got in a package deal. He has had a lot of trouble with it. Mostly on/off troubles , it didn’t want to turn on. It would beep but not be on. Sorry I’m a rambler. And it has zero features being the bottom level for Minelab.
Still the 40 looks like a good pin pointer. Thanks again.
@@ronroberts1944 haha, no worries, I too am a rambler! 😂 That’s why I think this is a good option for someone who is in need of a pinpointer versus someone who is adding a machine to their collection of detectors lol. You need a pinpointer (at least most of us do), but it’s not always something you “need” immediately. 😊
@@StefDigs and off the record what are your thoughts? :)
Well, technically this is a public platform so it’s on record, lol! But I do truly believe it’s an improvement from the 35. In all transparency, I have not compared this with any other pinpointers, but I absolutely suspect to see a lot of videos as these get shipped to end-users who might have an array of pinpointers on hand to compare with it.
