    Most beautiful soundtrack ever. This did Cole justice. I wish they had finished each song though.

    How can you possibly go wrong with Cole Porter and John Lanchberry’s arrangements? Answer... you can’t. Since the early 80s when I first saw this in the theater, I’ve loved the soundtrack. It’s easily my favorite Agatha Christie screen treatment, And this CD has remained a crown Jewell in my collection since it’s release several years back.

      When the CD came out I bought a dozen of them and gave them as Christmas and birthday presents.

    Featuring a great cast of actors, such as Colin Blakely, Maggie Smith, James Mason and Peter Ustinov (as the unmistakable Hercule Poirot) “Evil Under Sun” (1982), based on the novel by Agatha Christie rightfully became a successful movie. The beautiful looking picture deals about half of its running time just to introduce and focus on the notable characters and let one forget that there is indeed evil under the sun. The plot about a murder seems then almost minor, compared to the chemistry between the involved people, but it does so very rightfully as legendary director Guy Hamilton (various James Bond movies, Battle of Britain) proofs.
    Rather than featuring an original score, it was decided to have the great arranger John Lanchbery to adapt the music of Cole Porter as underscore and source music for the movie and he also proofed to solve his task superbly, as the result is cleverly adapting Porter’s music, while letting one forget this fact quite often, giving a feel of being a delightful original score. Enjoy!

    This is so beautiful. Love the movie and the the soundtrack. The cesspool of Hollywood today doesn’t make them like this anymore.

    I so agree that this and the other original Christie films (Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile) should never ever have been remade by Kenneth Branagh, who wears what appears to be a dead rat under his nose and ruins the material. I adore the score of this film, and the cast, and every single moment is a joy. Why can't perfection be left alone - nobody can better it.

      What? You have not seen the movie! It’s a stellar cast and it’s on the isle of Majorca for pity’s sake….. class it up yourself!
      It’s a classic movie on its own. Lanchberry is a master arranger. And his soundtrack elevates EUTS to perfect movie status.

      @@annamaest1…. Wrong!
      The soundtrack elevates EUTS - it doesn’t class it up. You have Maggie Smith, Diana Riggs, etc etc. and you don’t call that class? Geez…

You did a wonderful job of condesing this magnificent soundtrack- a shame, but I understand, that you couldn't include "Begin the Beguine" (one of the best versions of the song I've ever heard). Fred- a request: Miklós Rózsa's lush and heartbreakingly lovely "The V.I.P.s".

    Love the movie; love the music. And what a stunning location for the film. I wish I could go there. Having seen these films all being re-made...ugh...they are horrible. The guy playing Hercule Poirot, with the HORRIBLE FAKE LOOKING STACHE is so unbelievable, that I had to stop watching after 10 minutes. It's "piffle" lol.

      how right you are, Kenneth Branagh compared to Peter Ustinov is like me being compared to Karajan. This movies are simply great and this soundtrack will always remain in my heart as a sign of love (i had it on my MERC Convertible PA while driving to my then girl - actually a wife, someone else's...:) )

      You're 100% right- Kenneth Branagh's mustache and Agatha Christie movies are beyond horrible. I sat through the first, "Murder on the Orient Express", and left the theater horrified and disgusted. I haven't seen - and wouldn't be caught dead seeing - the following ones.

    Does any other film have opening credits as absurdly classy as this? Quite apart from the stellar cast, it was written by the writer of Sleuth (whose brother wrote Amadeus), the producers produced David Lean’s A Passage To India (and one of them, incidentally, was a baron, and also Lord Mountbatten’s son-in-law), the director directed Goldfinger, the cinematographer shot Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, the costume designer designed Raiders of the Lost Ark, the music is by Cole Porter, and arranged by the long-time conductor of the Royal Opera, Covent Garden … even the title sketches are by the former director of the Royal Academy Sir Hugh Casson. It’s nuts!

    • @chattyroz2934
      @chattyroz2934 4 місяці тому +1

      My only regret is that neither Cole Porter nor Agatha Christie lived to see what in my opinion was the best ever screen production of Christie's work with an outstanding arrangement of Porter's music creating the perfect atmosphere.
