Yoyoka's English is coming along really well as is her brother Shido's English. They've gone through some struggle after coming to the US but I feel like it's really a great move for the family and for her and her brother.

Great job, both of you! You set the bar pretty high for your next show! "YOYOKA THE DESTROYER" strikes again! She forgot to tell you about the time she was doing a cover of "Kill The King" and cracked TWO cymbals and dubbed it "Kill The Cymbals" on social media. When people have commented about YOYOKA looking really focused on what she is playing, I have commented before that she's probably "thinking about dinner" (from previous interview). She has not only confirmed that, but says she basically could be thinking about anything but music. Such a rare talent that can do that! Love the new "Tsukemen" song! Maybe it will appear on her new album....lol

Yoyoka is one of my favorite young drummers and Daykokuya has been my favorite Ramen place for many years (except the long wait to get in). Yeah, her English is really improving
Yes, she is doing very well. And yes, the long lines especially the DTLA branch.
A good interview is when the subject talks freely and being a good interviewer is to sense how to make it happen. You did well.
It is interesting that Yoyoka is so used to playing live that she says she "don't feel anything". I suppose she means the negative feelings that usually disturbs the performance for others. Like getting too excited or having stage fright. She has fun but is always extremely focused on what is happening in the moment. A special kid in many aspects - all of them positive
Thanks for the kind words. And yes I agree. Aside from being a pro, she doesn't have that negative feeling because it's a "favorite" and it's all positive.

Absolutely! And that is one of my favorite covers they did. Muse is the best band I’ve seen in a live concert and I love their music. KRFK did really good with a lil bit of their own twist. I have not seen other band of kids play rock that well.
Long time ago I wrote - the only thing that can outshine Yoyoka's drumming is her personality.
Great interview, but it still shows only a little part of things I’m talking about. I hope for many more interviews like this, now that she is good in English.

This was a fabulous interview with YOYOKA! You probably already knew - feed YOYOKA and all will be well. We got to see the silly/fun side of YOYOKA, which many do not see when she is live pro mode.
My only suggestion for future is to not have any music over top the interviews it is very distracting.

Hey Cali, I'm just an old guy with ideas that knows nothing about social media. But I think you should tag "TSLA", "Elon Musk" or whoever, you know what I mean. Lots of people who are fans of the truck will watch, and if TSLA found out somehow, maybe they would promote the video for their own reasons. hmmmm. They could literally do a commercial out of this, or re-shoot it for a commercial that fits in with their own advertising.

Hey I love this concept. You get to meet and greet some of the great up and coming talent, with a bit of self-promotion as well. That's kind of what my band did with our RAFA Jams. In order to get my then band's name out there, and at the same time foster collaboration and cross-pollination amongst local musicians, we'd host these jam nights at the RAF Association Club of which most of us were members.
Lots of great talent came out of the woodwork, and a hell of a great time doing it 🙂. Rock on, b'y!
Thanks! I'm a big foodie and I've always wanted to do some kind of artist promotion years ago. It all started when I first saw buskers in Paris and was amazed at how amazing and passionate they are regardless of their status. I just didn't have the time and means to record and interview them back then. Btw, good to hear from you again. Are there videos of those jam sessions? I'd love to check them out.
@@calithree Very cool, and I must say that European buskers and street performers can be insanely creative in my experience.
As for the RAFA jams, I do believe there are recordings extant of some of them, but that will take some digging. This was back in the 90s so I'm sure very little survives.
And as with most amateur jam sessions they consist of great amounts of pure suck with periods of pure magic breaking out now and again. But the one I'd love the world to see is a guy we called Bim. He was a tall, lanky, muscular black guy, in fashionably torn black clothes and Mohawk haircut, quite intimidating at first glance. But a really cool guy, and one insane bass player, who played (still plays?) a genre-defying brand of punk-inspired funk... something lol. Never seen a guy move on stage like him either. Not sure where he is now, but somehow managed to hitch a ride on a sailboat to Gibraltar, and thence to Germany. If there's any footage of him I'll try to digitize it and upload it somewhere.
Best of luck in this really cool concept, and thanks for highlighting our Yoyoka. She and her family have sacrificed a lot in their journey to the US so I have infinite respect for them.
I really hope that your own musical efforts get more and more recognition because you have a really great sound that hits hard.
