    Thanks Rob Yule and Scotty. Of course any time YOYOKA plays this song it is awesome, but this is one of my favorite versions. She released her first cover of this song (1.4 Mil views) right around the time she was added to DrummerWorld's Top 500 Drummers OF ALL TIME, youngest ever, at age 11. Ian Paice did a reaction and was so excited, stating it was one of the best covers of the song he had ever seen. During Covid she did a virtual cover with Paulie Z, so she's played with him off and on "Good Times Bad Times - Led Zeppelin / Cover featuring Paulie Z, Tony Franklin, Mr. Jimmy, Yoyoka" YOYOKA is a such a pro, been driving that bus since since about 5 y.o., 4 y.o. if you count her first live on stage performance.

  • @realdocloco
    @realdocloco 2 місяці тому +9

    "she's driving the bus" - exactly! Everyone who has played in a band knows how important it is to have a great drummer - it makes any band so much better because it brings groove and confidence. I think the most important aspect about Yoyoka is that, at the contrary of many other "whiz kids" on youtube, she has played live with her family band nearly from the start , instead of only playing in her room. That's why she's so at ease on stage with other musicians.

    I've been watching Yoyoka's videos on UA-cam for years now. Now that she's come to L.A. I've seen her play live twice and I've also spoken to her. "Amazing" doesn't even begin to describe her. She's not only the consummate drummer, a completely professional level musician, she's very humble and mature in the best of ways beyond her chronological age. She's smart and aware and when she plays, she plays effortlessly. Music flows from and through her with an ease I've never seen in my 40 years of playing and watching others play. She's been naturally blessed with a multitude of abilities, and talent like hers only comes along rarely. With any luck, we'll have years to enjoy watching her play. It's definitely worth it to see her play live. Video doesn't readily convey how thoroughly in command she is of whatever kit she's playing on. これからも頑張れよ、ヨヨカ!

    Paulie Z and Yoyoka have performed together several times before. During lockdown Yoyoka played on several 'remote videos' (looks like a Zoom call, but wasn't live) for the "David Z Foundation" music charity:
    _Over the Mountain - Ozzy Osbourne (Cover) / Yoyoka with FRIENDS_ ua-cam.com/video/Wf3q0LP_CJw/v-deo.html
    _Good Times Bad Times - Led Zeppelin / Cover featuring Paulie Z, Tony Franklin, Mr. Jimmy, Yoyoka_ ua-cam.com/video/0b5hdiOjupo/v-deo.html - yes, *_The_* Tony Franklin (of The Firm, with Jimmy Page). I believe Jimmy Page has 'blessed' Mr. Jimmy as a Led Zeppelin cover artists.
    Yoyoka and Paulie Z have performed "Good Times Bad Times" live at "The Whisky" too.
    AFAIK, Paulie Z is the vocalist for "Sweet" (aka "The Sweet"), a UK 'glam rock' band which had a lot of success in the 1970s. So he needs a powerful voice.
    Best Wishes. ☮

      Just watched that Good times, bad times version with Tony Franklin, Paulie Z and Mr Jimmy. That was an AWESOME version of the song. Yoyoka, of course, is brilliant. But what really caught me were a couple of bass riffs that Tony brought to the table. What a great player - and I'm partial to the sound of a fretless bass (at least when played by a talented player!)

    • @gbulmer
      @gbulmer 2 місяці тому +1

      @@RockandRollRelic Yes, Tony Franklin played superbly on that cover. I guess they were all inspired to play for the "David Z Foundation" music charity, which aims to bring music education and funding to underprivileged kids. Yoyoka would be honoured to support them.

      @@RockandRollRelic Thinking about bass, you might enjoy: _Led Zeppelin - The Ocean (Cover) by Ellen, Yoyoka, Eva, Mateo._ ua-cam.com/video/LpaMCYLweWU/v-deo.html IRC, Yoyoka was 12yo, Ellen 9yo (bass), Mateo 15-16yo (guitar), and Eva 16-17yo (vocals). It gladdened my heart. 😂 Maybe a reaction?
      It is one unedited audio take, but many video takes because there was only one camera operator, Ellen's Dad Hovak. Yoyoka had never even met them before that day, and Ellen had only rehearsed once before with Eva, and twice with Mateo. Eva recorded backing vocals. The audio is a very early take.
      There's a separate Q&A video with Ellen, Yoyoka, Hovak, and briefly Yoyoka's Dad Aki. Hovak is a professional musician, band leader, composer, producer and video editor. Hovak said "the drummer is the engine of the band, when the engine is working well, the whole band moves forward together", IIRC, he also said a good drummer makes playing together seem effortless.
      Best Wishes. ☮

    That's a monthly event at the Whisky and she's usually there for a few songs - it says so much about her that these other pro musicians (because at this point YOYOKA is a pro herself) have the confidence in her skills to jam with her, and often they've just met her for the first time before going on stage.

      At this point? Don't forget Yoyoka has played with members of some of the biggest metal bands in Japan. No offense to Paulie and these "Whiskey" regulars in L.A., but Yoyoka has played with "made men" in Japan going back years now. And by "made" I mean internationally recognized superstars. That kicked off when she was a round 9. Not to mention guest drumming for Cyndi Lauper and Fallout Boy around that same time period in front of a combined 30,000 people. And recording with Billy Sheehan. Recording all the 18 drum tracks for that "Final Fantasy" re-issue about 4 years ago. Plus the 3 bands that she's in at present. And all the records she's made. It's safe to say that she's been a "pro" for a while now. I mean she was invited to Tom Morelleo's house for his mom's 100th birthday last year and her invite included that she play a tribute to Mary at that party (Tom's mom) with Jack Black. So... yeah. She's been on for a minute. When you're in active bands and have endorsements from Ludwig, Zildjan, TAMA, DW, Vic Firth and Roland, believe me you're a pro. She got all of those except the Zildjan one back when she was 8. She was with Pearl back then.

      @@jackspratt7264 Relax buddy - you're preaching to the choir; WE know she's a pro, but those people at the Whisky don't know all of her background, so they're seeing a teenage girl who posts videos on UA-cam.

    • @jackspratt7264
      @jackspratt7264 2 місяці тому +1

      @@Timmayytoo That's not entirely true. She isn't just thrown with random people all the time. Especially in this instance. Nobody on that stage was ignorant of who she was. Paulie (the singer) has known her for going on 5 years now and recorded with her multiple times over the years, especially during lock down. He's played with her there at the Whiskey on multiple occasions too. Toshi, Sean and Vic also know who she is. I'm not sure if you've ever been in a band or not or jammed with people, but nobody has to have confidence in anybody to play a song, man. It's not "The Gong Show" or open mic night at "The Apollo" in Harlem. In that environment it's assumed that everybody assembled, at the very least, knows what they're doing. If any of them actually sucked, THAT would be the shock. Not that a drummer can actually play the drums whether she's known or not. You're acting like they just pulled her out of the crowd. People in that L.A. rock scene aren't fond of being embarrassed or laughed off stage. Now if the host yelled out, "Who out there can play the drums? Come on up and give it your best shot." Then you'd have a point, but that's not what happened, so uh.. YOU relax "buddy".
