Augusto died in 1992 from lung cancer,he wasn't depressed...he was a very gentle soul. He was from my hometown and he had a shop in the city centre called Bagaj where you could buy earrings, bracelets, hippies bags and scarfs all made by him in the workshop at the back of the shop. When Nomadi made shows in town, which was very often, they would more often than not end up having something to eat with fans. It happenened to me and my frends a couple of times

    English translation
    Me wanderer
I, one day I'll grow up,
and I'll fly in the sky of life.
What could a child know about it?
life can't be so easy forever.
Then, one september's night I woke up,
    the wind on my skin,
on my body the lights of the stars.
Who knows where my home was
and that little kid who used to play in the courtyard.
    Me, wanderer that I am.
    I'm nothing but a wanderer.
I've got no money in my pockets, but at least up there I still have God.
Yes, the road is still there,
the city looked like a desert to me.
What could a child know about it?
Life can't be so easy forever.
Then, one september's night I left,
    the fire of a fireplace
isn't warm as the morning sun.
Who knows where my home was
and that little kid who used to play in the courtyard.
    Me, wanderer that I am.
    I'm nothing but a wanderer.
I've got no money in my pockets, but at least up there I still have God.
    Me, wanderer that I am.
    I'm nothing but a wanderer.
I've got no money in my pockets, but at least up there I still have God.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Io un giorno crescerò
E nel cielo della vita volerò
Ma un bimbo che ne sa
Sempre azzurra non può essere l'età
Poi una notte di settembre mi sveglia
    I

Nomads represented the peaceful protest in the 70s, also claiming the right to have long hair and a beard, Augusto was the true leader of the Nomads and their songs were often in collaboration with Francesco Guccini, a great friend of Augusto. It was very sad when he died, thank you for remembering this great man👏❤❤❤
every concert they closed saying "always and only Nomadi"

Goodbye to Augustus daolio the voice, strong, nomads
Reggio Emilia - Augusto Daolio, singer and founder of the nomads, died yesterday morning in his house of Novellara; He was 45 and had long been suffering from lung cancer. On January 23rd he had been hospitalized in the Pneumology department of the Reggio Emilia hospital and from that moment he was forced to alternate his work commitments with other hospitalizations. Strong, intense, courageous, daolium had not given up to live the period of finding a success of his group: a year ago the nomads had published a new album, 'people like us', and this summer a anthology of old had come out Songs that contained a new one, 'But we no': Daolio had sung until the last one. We remember it in the various stages of the cantagiro, a little aged, sometimes fatigued, but with the usual grit, the increasingly white bum, that nomadic voice has always been the mark, the characteristic sign. With the keyboardist Beppe Carletti, Daolio founded the nomads: the workout was hard, the group sang for years in the baler, and he sang everything. In 1965 the first woman 'woman came out, but he didn't have a great success. The year after success arrived with the famous 'As you can judge', and the spirit of the group was immediately clear. The nomads ridder the youth protest (even before the 68) and that song, presented at the '66 cantagiro, became almost a hymn. As many hymns, symbols-symbol were 'we will not be there', 'God is dead', 'to make a man', 'a son of flowers does not think about tomorrow' and 'I want' that was the Italian version of 'i Want you 'by Bob Dylan. In the 70s nomads had a pop period of some success: 'a handful of sand' and 'I vagabondo that are nothing else' arrived in the standings. In the '74' the nomads sing guccini 'was also released, but the group was prevented from taking a tour with the singer-songwriter. In recent times Daolio had been severely tried by the death of the mother and Dante Pervetti, who died last May, the 30-year-old drummer who had replaced Umberto Maggi in the group. Success, the notoriety of him had not changed the Spirit of him: Daolio, unlike many colleagues, had not allowed him the professional life of him invaded him. He continued to paint, he was also a municipal councilor in Reggio Emilia as an independent, in the lists of PCI, as well as an active organizer of the group 'boys of the olive tree' created to promote the remote adoption of Palestinian children. We had met him a year ago: "We chose to live in the province," he said "of not having the fast and obsessive rhythms of the city, just to be able to think about the standing things well out. In the city then you can always go when needed. To stay a little apart, to live out, it has always been a winning move, because it allowed us to grow as we wanted, to go to the cinema, to travel, to love ".

This is not done often enough. (Also, Augusto did use to invite people on stage. In those days, and particularly at his gigs, no one was worried about possible acts of violence because everyone felt like a family there)

The band is called "i nomadi" (which means "the nomads") and is still in activity. Indeed the singer that you're listening to in this video passed away in 1992 because of a lungs cancer. His name was Augusto Daolio, There is a short page also in the english wikipedia about him en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Augusto_Daolio. There is also an english wikipedia page for the band en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nomadi and also for this song en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Io_vagabondo. The song is indeed a real "cult" song in Italy, abave all for those who where 15-25 years old in the 70's but also for younger generations. The song sold millions of copies and was covered by many italian singers and was also translated in others languages like spanish

Hi, I really like that you appreciate Italian music, I suggest some songwriters that I think you don't know but I can tell you that they are very interesting; unfortunately they have died some years ago: Enzo jannacci, Giorgio Gaber and Pierangelo Bertoli. Sorry for my English

This song is hardcore. Nomads are "hardcore" because in their lyrics there are uncomfortable themes for current politics and society. If you listen to nomads, you are mostly seen badly in Italy, you are considered an outcast. I love the nomads especially the album that contains this song. I advise you to look at all the translations of the texts because they deserve a lot. Peace and love from Italy.

I Nomadi can be compared to the Grateful deads in terms of history (less drugs tho) and following. The band has changed over the years but they have a great and loyal audience. Io vagabondo can be defined as the "Italian Freebird" if such comparison can be made. Keep the great work!

Hi Ang! I can't find the link to request a song anymore! is it still possible to do this? As for the Nomadi and Augusto Daolio, what can I say, they are legend! All of their songs are beautiful and many are much more rock than the ones you have presented so far! for example: "C'è un re" or "Mercanti e servi", especially in the versions sung by Augusto Daolio !!! 😊👍

The singer died MANY YEARS AGO (around 30 years ago)
then they toke a new singer and they replaced every single member of the band with someone else (except for the keyboard player)
maybe the one who daied recently was the lastest singer, but the one you hear here died at the beginning of the 90's

One of the most popular songs in Italy, everyone knows it and sings it, old, young, children, everyone! ♥
There is not a single guitarist in Italy who did not start playing guitar on this song as a boy. 🎸
