As an architectural student I always come back to this video to remind myself how to create concepts. Been using these techniques ever since and a lot of people, even teachers admire my concepts so thank you ❤
Hi! Just here to share. I am a first year Architecture student and developing concepts is one of the skills that we do really have to learn in order to be good architects and I just gotta say this is one of the videos that helped me. It really did impress my teacher and my classmates so thank you! It helped a lot!
From Turkey, i see u in Instagram and i affected cuz i can't see good architectural videos ( for students ). I wish ur channel gets better every day. Respects.
For me it's something different, for me i don't want to impress teachers, but i just want to show my architecture that i imagine. For me i always liked traditional architecture or older styles of architecture, architecture school doesn't really teach that, all they do is create different forms but not teach about classical orders or nothing of the past, im just wondering why? I want to build beautiful, not ugly like the way modern architecture design is.
Interesting! At my uni went spent a lot of time looking at historic architecture. Had dedicated courses on the topic especially in the first few years. Perhaps it will come later in your degree? Otherwise, keep doing your own research if that’s your passion! That’s the best way to learn.
Hi, on the premise that you went to architecture school this year, how do it go? I'm also interested in traditional and classical architecture, but I'm wondering if I'll even be allowed to design projects using these forms instead of modernist ones. Tbh, I think the concept thing is a bit dumb, because in the end people using and seeing the building you designed won't really care
I can only really recommend watching this video again, or checking out my previous concept video for help. If you follow the steps it should be pretty clear what you need to do to come up with a concept for the guest house :)
Do you have an idea of your concept before you get into site analysis? If so ,doesnt it bias you, close your mind to possibly getting a concept from the site itself?
Not usually. Concepts can come any time after the briefing session but the first thing I'll usually do is site analysis which gives a lot of ideas. It's important to remain flexible in the design process.
Hey if anyone can help me out,im having a hard time grasping this “concept” idea. Does concept really have to only have 1 keyword and everything design will be relate back to the “concept” I get it if I have to show it in terms of forms but how about space planning? does it have to relate too? How far do we have to follow this concept thing in our design?
There's really no right or wrong way to go about it. The idea of a concept is to have something to guide you in your process. I would say that it does follow through the entire design process, but you don't need to be constrained by it, simply use it to guide you when you're split between 2 decisions, or trying to think of ideas.
Sorry I'm late, you already know I'm a student. And can i ask you or help me made up my mind... I am scared to take architecture school because I know It's very expensive and I am from Philippines and I am not blessed with wealth only blessed and raised with great parents. I live in poverty and I'm scared if I can sustain and survive as the only archi school are far away. I like to Design things, being creative and think critically. I am scared to start...😢 I am a Grade 11 student
Hey Guianne. That's a tough one. I've always believed that if you want to do something bad enough, you'll find a way to make it possible. You might need to travel to a place where your University fees are deferred (in Australia, we don't pay a majority of the Uni fees until we start earning a certain amount of money). Perhaps you might need to get a part time job to sustain it. If you'd like to watch more videos to help you decide, here's my playlist for "Should I Study Architecture?" ua-cam.com/play/PL8evaQZnDGAeMOiWotSPY65xRCOt9iYEh.html All the best :)
Ok it's settled, i'll become one. No matter what happens i'll find a way. If my nightmares are holding me back, my dreams as an architect soon are the one that keep pushing me. Thank you as always your the BEST!
That's odd. You can always feel free to sign up for my email list. If you go to my website successfularchistudent.com/ and click the button to gain access to my free course, you'll start to receive emails when I release new videos on UA-cam :)

From India...🙏 I m 3rd year architecture student.. I m always confused about concept .... I m doing college campus project in this semester. My vision is clear about project design... According to location, weather and climate I m following Brutalism architecture. I m focusing how to connect with nature. I'll provide natural ventilation , lot of trees for campus landscape.. I m going to use local material only. It'll cheaper and low cost for maintenance. See.... Little bit I tried to explain to you... What am I going to do and it is the best according to location.. but I m confused about concept... I m unable to think about key words..🥺 please suggest
Probably a little late, but you could "create a verb" for the purpose of you building. What is your building doing and how does the form, or other characteristics of the building being portrayed? Brutalism in old Soviet countries to me takes on the verb "to pervail" or " to establish". The buildings were built in such a way to make the single person small and the government was big. This could be good or bad depending on how you see it. It could mean security or it could mean dominance. Either way, I found this way to be an easy way to follow my concept through the end of the project. You probably won't use this in practice. You're method is fine too. Just come up with a verb to summarize what you've already written.

My teacher ask for a concept in 5 days is that possible?
Sure, the design might not be fully resolved but it's possible to have ideas
what if my breif is too vague
Develop it yourself. That's what I found. You almost need to make it into your own brief.
thank you man
