The thing is it’s not even priced to factor parts and labour at all, it’s not really even priced to factor in the intangibles like operating costs, R&D, marketing, etc. It’s priced to be unaffordable to everyone but the bare minimum of wealth that LV wants to associate with. The thing you’re paying for isn’t the brand, it’s exclusivity. You’re paying more ‘because’ you want other people to not be able to afford it. It should be viewed negatively, IMO. Something that could improve these shorts would be a comparison to an equally well made or better bag at a lower price point. People will still pick LV even when shown objective truth not because it’s a better value proposition, but because they partly just value the brand and partly because they want YOU to know that they have something others can’t. Playground bullshit.
They have always been important to a certain segment of the population, the lower classes just didn't have the ability to buy anything so frivolous. Remember a large middle class is a huge anomaly in a capitalist economy that only came about bc of militant unions and FDR forcing the elite ownership class to share the profits with their workers. No one likes thinking about why kids as young as 5 were working (and dying) in factories less than a century ago but it's not bc they were doing jobs that required small hands but rather bc factory owners could pay children almost nothing and were easy to bully. Back then wages to children paid only enough to feed that child for the day forcing them to come back to work every day, even if they had just watched the kid next to them be ripped apart in the machinery thanks to a moment's lapse of concentration during their 12-18 hr shift 6 days a week.
I used to like Coach until I brought out a summer only bag. The Hampton I believe. And the leather had the look of melting. I sent it in to Coach and they did nothing. I had used it a few times. Same poor quality on their sneakers "leather" started peeling. They were worn maybe a dozen times and always wiped down and put back in their box. And yes they are both real.
Coach and Dooney Burke, inexpensive bags and well-made. It’s when you get into the high end such as Dior who pays $44 to have their bags made and resell them in the thousands in the US. But we still buy them.

The only "luxury" bags I've ever bought are Coach bags. They're what my mom always carried and she started my collection when I was in highschool, and I've been adding to it ever since. My oldest one was bought in 1989 and it's as lovely today as it was the day I got it, and that's not due to any special care or storage; I just hang them on a plastic hanger in my closet, and rotate carrying each one every few months. Most are solid color pebbled leather, which never go out of style, with a few cloth signature bags sprinkled in the mix. A few were purchased brand new and the rest were purchased used or are hand-me-downs. To each their own, and all that jazz, but spending $2,000.00+ on a purse just ain't for me. My biggest Coach splurge was around $350.00, and that took me a while to save up for, as I would never ever buy something like that on credit. The only thing my husband and I bought on "credit" is our house. We're big believers in living within our means...we may not have a bunch of fancy stuff or go on big vacations, but we sleep soundly every night knowing no one will be showing up to repo any of our belongings. It's what works for us.🤷🏼♀️👍
I just spent $1300 ish on some coach bags after saving a few checks and making sure my mom's phone bill(s) were payed. Coach and micheal kors are some of the best quality bags imo. I have so many coach and kors bags, some are gifts i got when i was very young, around 14 and they look good as new😫

Do note a product like a leather bag is more than just cost and labor. You also have to account for marketing budget, operating cost, R&D cost, and more. Does that all add up anywhere near $2700. Of course not. But it's a good thing for consumers to know that raw material cost and labor are not the only costs when making a product.
This is great and should be done with every product. Amazing that people envy others who brag about being ripped off, just to support some brand they have no association with.
Your videos are great and instructive. The only part I take issue with is that there is a universe in which that kind of markup is justified for any reason. Keep up the great work.
The burger you paid$6 for at McDonald’s costs them less than 20 cents. It’s called markup, pays for store fronts, marketing, salaries(other than manufacturing cost), and of course profit. After all companies are not in it for the fun of it.
poor people issues 😂 rich people get them as tax deductions and ask themselves "would I rather get the bag or pay taxes to the government?" 😂 screw logic, right?
They are not higher end. They just charge higher prices. If I see you with them, I usually assume you don't understand value, can easily be ripped off, or would rather throw money away to gain the approval of others.
That's one of the many reasons I love buying vintage designer bags and I still have a fabulous leather Coach that I purchased from the late 80s that's in mint condition 😊. Leather artisans, cobblers, and restorers of things made with love and talent needs to return!
Remember that costs have nothing to do with the value (price) of goods and services, it only matters when assessing if it is worth producing something or not.
Right. Thats the cost of the production. You gotta put in perspective everything else, lile the brand name, workers, keeping boutiques open. Is much more than that.
Are you seriously trying to justify a markup from $260 for materials and assembly to $2,700 for sale? That's a 1000% markup. Not even Apple is that bad!!!

That is why I don’t buy these brands. They are a rip off to the middle class and it’s a donation of money to the brands from the rich. Either way it will carry whatever you put in it just as a regular bag will. We need to stop putting value on things and start putting value on people.
I am a Fashion Designer and he is RIGHT!! I design apparel now, and when I was in college I made a lot of leather handbags that only costed about $100-200 for the material. If I was to price this bag with labor, it would be around $300-$400. When I see people with Louis Vuitton, I laugh 😂
I am friends with a product maker for LV and i can assure you your labour costs for making these are so so much higher than you are quoting. Dont get me wrong, these are extremely expensive. but the labour costs are around 90 / 100 Euros per hour to make.
You are so right it’s the name on the bag .. apparently if you want a Louis Vuitton bag but pay hundreds for it get Marc Jacob’s or Micheal kors bags both of them worked for and with Louis Vuitton at least 10-15 years each and then went on to do their own handbag line and they use same materials as lv but around 300.00to 600.00 for same design fabrics and labor handbag style . You do not pay for leather, accessories, and a little labor. You pay for an image you want to project to others. You, basically, pay for thousands that happens in other minds. And that, my friends, is very costly.

I bought a LV bag gtdupe years ago. I took it to the LV store in my town last week to have it repaired. The store clerk inspected my bag and immediately told me that the bag was of good quality. She pulled a current bag out of inventory and compared the tags and I found zero differences
A LV clerk isn’t going to repair a fake bag, why would they arrange a repair job that’s for something that’s not even their own product, which their brand wouldn’t be liable for.
This is the investment cost BUT I purchased mine 14 yrs ago, packed it with diapers, baby bottles, etc and I swear this bag looks still new. I dont like LV but I love this bag.

@@sunshineken4062 hey hey calmdown i never cared about status wut im trying to say is that ure not paying for the bag, you're paying for the licensed design and the brand if you bought a design, made it into a product, and tried selling it, you'll only make profit by giving it a high price point to cover the expenses of the designer and the taxes that comes after it im talking with u from a professional pont, not a consumer point

I agree - the only time I’ve ever put some money down is tech. I mean a MacBook will last you 10 years comfortably so 2k made sense.. but 1k for a laptop that gets super slow and barely lasts 5 isn’t worth it. But clothes.. meh, 3k for a bag is just Sade would never pay more than maybe 200 for a clothing (some jackets that lasts 5-10 years can cost abit sadly but they do last and you don’t need 10 of them - 2-3 and your set for some time)
Depends on what you mean by "worth" . There are brands that have specific items that are "iconic" and have only gone up in price, therefore buying certain items can actually be a good investment. Now, many will argue, no way...but here me out. Chanel and Hermes hold their prices the best, and in those brands its not every item, a Chanel small or mini classic flap bag is currently running around $7000 Canadian, the same bag 2 years ago, was about $4500. Now, almost everything in the world has gone up enormously in the last 3 years due to many things, but many people who bought a lot of Chanel a few years ago can now sell them and make a tidy profit, same goes for Hermes although Chanel and Louis Vuitton pricing has gone up astronomically compared to other lux brands.
None. Just ask a craftsman who makes those bags from a third world country and you can get the same or better quality with lower costs. LV bags are imported from 3rd world countries.
The thing with these brands is that people are not buying for themselves, they buy for others to see them have it. Thats the premium they pay for. And in the end, no one will care what bag or watch you wore.
Aside from it's handmade, store rental, executives, store manager, supervisor, sales assistant, taxes, ads promotions etc. all this expenses makes the items expensive
2 or 3 times I have saved a quiet amount of money to buy a high-end luxury bag, my husband also offered to buy me one. Well, once in the store, I totally hated the customer service people. $160 for labour so if someone made this bag in 8 hours (they didn’t) they would make $20 an hour? It takes a lot longer to make a handmade bag
@@MrFlutay they're making a lot of them so probably one person cutting up sheets, one sewing etc. Means it's a lot faster than of you just made one.
I am so happy designer labels were not important when I grew up. We were happy to have good clothes, shoes and accessories.

Coach is my favorite brand. And I usually get it when it's extremely on sale 😅
I LOVE COACH, but I also love LV and Gucci bags. I have all three and I’m selling some LV bags right now.
WOW!!! This is why I buy handmade leather handbags in Lancaster county PA.

Once he sends them to the distributor, the shoes are shipped to Hong Kong where the shoe label is applied and sent back to the department stores.

I don’t think he was far off at all. Being paid a little more than chinese kids doesn’t make labour expensive in France hahahahhaha
Great video, very informative
You could tear them apart more nicely & work on smaller places so if you want, you could resell those pieces to people that rework on shoes like Nike Air Force, a lot of people rework them & put LV or Gucci parts on. Just a thought ♥️
😂 anybody else feels satisfied with the stabby part at the beginning? I just know how cringe-y it must feel for some of the brand lovers.
I would love the scrap leather from the bags you deconstructed...I make shoes...any chance?
Where do you sell these shoes?
He'll be happy to sell the scrap from this bag for a discount of $2,000 😅
The cost of an item doesn't just include materials and labor. You also have to factor in design, distribution costs, as well as a profit margin for the retailer. But still, yes, of course 2700 is way too expensive for any bag
Stop making excuses about why you like being overcharged for poorly made products.
@@bbrucet3 lol why are you so angry 😂 the facts of the additional costs are just that; they aren't a justification for the high price people are willing to pay.
But you know these people aren't paying 2700 for workmanship or materials... They are paying for the brand. Just like any other luxury item. If they are happy with the label that they can show off, and have the money to spend, then they aren't being overcharged. They're getting exactly what they want.
I'm very happy with the *rrcopys* package. Beautiful storage compartments. Looks and feels like leather. The shoulder straps and zipper are of high quality. Very happy with the purchase.
