I started my loc journey six weeks ago, shampooing my hair three times, and had my first retwist (I am doing them myself) one week ago. I will continue my same routine as before I started my locs, shampooing every two weeks, using my onion oil two to three times a week, on my scalp only, and greasing my scalp either every day or every other day, I have very dry scalp and hair (4c). I heard many not to use products on your hair (build-up)but after I did this two weeks later I noticed my hair felt brittle and very dry and started to break off, so, I went back to using my Shea Butter recipe with a leave-in conditioner and oils, I also mist my hair daily with Alveo Vera juice, Rosewater, and oils and my hair perked back up. I did switch to a clarifying shampoo (Aveeno, Apple Cider, and Vinegar) and I love it, the first time I used it, it left my hair feeling clean and soft. I started my locs due to an illness, and it is difficult for me to maintain my hair (and NO, I do not trust anyone in my hair). I have one question or to add to what you said, be ready for the SHRINKAGE LOL! I started out with waist-length hair and it is now barely touching my shoulders...LITERALLY! will it drop back down???

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience with starting your loc journey! Finding a routine that works for you is definitely part of the process, I have tried many different things over the years. And yes the shrinkage is real! My hair was quite short when I started my locs so my baby locs were tiny😂 Patience and trusting the process are so important but in no time the length will definitely start showing. Good luck with your loc journey!
