I went to St. Viateur bagel shop when I was in Montreal. It was a very good bread, but as a New Yorker, I do not consider it to be a bagel. It’s too soft and light. They’re both good, but are in 2 different worlds.

"Tea" doesnt come from the abbreviation. It comes from the Chinese term for the drink. Chà was the term used by the portuguese merchants, and thé (or té) was used by the French. Depending on where from china they traded the tea. The french and germans used terms "Thé" and "Tee" before the english term "tea" was coined.
And given that there are documentation of Dutch East India company selling "te" to Britain in 1650, so 12 years before according to the story tea came to England. At the time tea was taxed really heavily, and the people who could buy it, were royalty. So the British royalty had te before 1662, when Queen Catherine brought "cha" (not tea) from Portugal.
Tea parties were also popularised by Queen Victoria in the 1840's. Tea was too expensive for anyone not massively wealthy to have as a regular drink until midway of the 17th century.
