My middle school took square dancing so seriously that after the painstakingly awkward and long 2 weeks of the PE unit, the whole school (of about 1,000 kids and teachers total) would gather in the gym and square dance for about 2 hrs and for a few years we had the Guinness World Record for most people square dancing at once and the plaque hung in the main hallway of our school
Actually da Vinci thought extremely highly of the Mona Lisa. According to one of his apprentices, he toiled over the painting for months, and, in true perfectionist form, he even repainted it entirely several times. He recognized it was a masterpiece and is said to have travelled with it for the rest of his life.
thank you mr mccoul, there is so much hidden in the mona lisa to say it was a passing thing and hardly interesting to him is insulting to the genius who painted it and made it that way, seriously great big story i love your videos but that was a very child like mistake. its been known for a long time just how much she meant to leonardo and as david mccoul has said he took her with him wherever he went to finish her and keep her safe, thats hardly a passing thought with no interest. why is it you think napoleon wanted her on his wall? why did it get a spot in the louvre? why was it that painting the italian man stole? dont be dense guys, shes important for so many other reason than what you have stated.
I remember when I was in elementary school, we were playing the three blind mice on the record. Mid song it sounded so bad I started laughing with the recorder still in my mouth so it sounded like this.... PHHHHHHHHHHHRRRHTHRHRHFHHE😂
I have to say, I played the recorder professionally for 6 years, and it's the most underrated instrument EVER. It's truly beautiful when made out of high quality wood. It really did lose its reputation when it was brought into American schools.
I remember that in the 6th grade we had to dance the waltz and my partner did not want to dance with me because he did not like me. (I don't know why, I never bothered him and was nice to him). Luckily the quiet kid in class danced with me and we did a good job and got a 100% in class while the kid who did not want to dance with me (and did not want to dance at all) failed.
To be honest, it kind of annoyed me whenever we had to play them back in third grade. Though I had to buy my own and never used it again after the few weeks I had to learn it.
Never square danced in school, and I'm kinda glad I never faced that type of embarrassment, but I remember my purple plastic recorder. We'd tie different colored strings at the bottom to show our progress. The color of recorder showed what group we were in. We were in 3rd grade when we did it, and then boom, we dropped recorders in 4th grade.
The recorder isn't that vile. I don't hate comic sans, it's just misused in excess, which would be the fault of the user, not the font. The recorder as described, is a great gateway tool into music. Also, the recorder can sound beautiful, there are musicians on UA-cam that play recorder, check them out. Those videos are literally filled with comments like "but I thought recorder couldn't sound good"
Chris Hayes comic sans is used so much because it’s the easiest font for people with dyslexia to read. Each letter is slightly different to the other, for instance b & d wouldn’t look the exact same flipped so it’s harder to mix the two up while reading. And you’re correct about recorders, my mom’s played all her life and she makes it sound nice.
she probably didnt have any brows since a big forehead was considered beautiful and therefore women shaved of their brows and plucked back their hairline
I did the plastic recorder thing when I was young. I also remember doing some awkward square dancing in gym class. I didn't know anything about the doughnut pink boxes until seeing this. As we in the mid-west don't have anything like this. Thanks.
The music teacher at my elementary school would give out recorders to the class to playing the concerts, the school only gave them to 5th graders, so when I was in 4th grade, I was so excited for 5th grade so I would get to play a recorder for the first time... Well... The school stopped giving recorders when I was in 4th grade, so I never got a chance, but now I'm in middle school, and I play the flute, so it's still pretty close
6:43 so... I'm related to Anna Jarvis through my mom's mom's family and I've learned more about how she made mothers day than through my great grandma and grandma.
We were forced to learn how to dance in 3rd grade school camp. After two rounds of learning square dancing and the flamenco, I hid under the tables in the hall with my friends.
Hugh was better known as Wavy Gravy, an absolute hippie icon, clown and wonderful person. I've known him since I was a baby and he's spent most of his adult life helping people learn to laugh and be kind to others. He's 86 now and still going strong. ❤
Using the recorder was the worst times for my music class, my bald arrogant teacher would get mad at you and shout if you made 1 mistake, and due to hate of students, he resigned a year later
im very surprised to read the comments and see just how many people thought of van gogh - starry night. its always been a favourite of mine since a child as ive always like van gogh as we share a birthday (not the same year sadly) but its amazing to see how many people see that as more famous than the mona lisa, it's by far my favourite and im glad so many other people feel the same.
I got TRIGgReD when I saw the recorder in the flute case because, everyone that I know that play the recorder call it flute. As I flute player it's very weird........
The Mona Lisa was actually a portrait of a merchant mans wife but Da Vinci ended up liking the portrait so much he never gave them the painting and kept it until his death. She also wasn’t standing in front of mountains, he was just creative enough to put them in.
The carpenter stole the Mona Lisa because he thought it was unfair that the painting is in France and not in Italy , because it was drawn in Italy by Leonardo Da Vinci. That’s why he stole it!
I'm confused why eating out on Mother's Day would upset the creator. Treating your mom to a delicious meal and spending time with her is a great way to show her you love and appreciate her. I admit the holiday is commercialized, but it's still just ways to show your appreciation. The overall idea of honoring your mother is still the main idea.
I somehow was able to get out of learning the recorder (well)... we had these colorful, clear ones and i think i just pretended to play in music class lol
After we did recorders we did the violin and I can say that I wish we went back to recorders because the sound was like stepping on a cats tail on accident times 23, it was fun though.
I'm fine with the recorder honestly. Dont hate it or anything. I played it in the 1st grade and later moved onto the saxophone in the 3rd grade that I still play to this day.
I’ve never used a recorder and never heard one because when it was the school year that we would play the recorder I moved and to the school that I moved it was the year before
I remember in 4th grade all the fourth grader thought we were so cool which our plastic recorders
I played it in 3rd grade
Did you drop out shortly after that?
In our school, we did keyboard.
Same
i remember that too
Don't act all smug, Mona Lisa, you were right on my screen when you asked.
desu38 I was thinking of the painting “Helen of Troy”
I thought of the girl with the pearl erring I think that’s what’s it’s called
Yep, “The Girl in the Pearl Earring”
I thought of the scream but I wasnt even looking at the screen
I think the Mona Lisa is a little big-headed TBH, at least in the forehead area.

It can sound really good if its made of plastic, but not the cheap one piece fluets.
I remember that in the 6th grade we had to dance the waltz and my partner did not want to dance with me because he did not like me. (I don't know why, I never bothered him and was nice to him). Was this in Vienna because I got through 17.5 years of public school without coming into contact with it.
I learned to waltz when I was seven years old because I got bored of watching SpongeBob

Lol I can actually play it OK (aka not squeaking)
Never seen a pink donut box, is it a phenomenon that only happens mostly on the west coast?
In my entire life living in this country I've never met a Cambodian either.
I would not make donuts because i would eat them all lol

I recommend the ukulele vids on YT.
Chris Hayes bands often have flute players use a recorder for some pieces. Just like the occasional piccolo
So you're saying that the recorder is the comic sans of the instrument world.

Why do these all sound like urban legends
Tyler Clark do you even know what an urban legend is? Lmao
Cat they do though
because at least on of them (the mona lisa) is basically an opinion and one that has incorrect information in it so it sounds dubious because it is.
I didn’t know Santa Claus painted the Mona Lisa!! “The more you know” ;)
We had wood recorders 😎
Lotta Jochens we only got those once we proved we wouldn’t fuck up the plastic ones lol.. many failed
