Okay, let me explain for anyone confused: Jack, Ash, and Jed all arrive in the world of Cornelia with no memory. All they know is that they need to kill Chaos. Neon and Sophia also have a desire to kill Chaos, so they team up. Jack, Ash, Jed, and Neon all have crystals, much like the prophesied Warriors of Light, but these crystals are dark. It's later revealed that Jack, Ash, and Jed are from another dimension controlled by the Lufenians. They've been sent to Cornelia before, and attempted to destroy the darkness, which was banished to Cornelia by the Lufenians. They failed, so the Lufenians erased their memories and reset the world. The scenes where Jack is wearing white are memories from that previous attempt. He used to be friends with Astos, and was in love with Princess Sarah. The darkness once again spreads and becomes uncontrollable. In order to break free of the Lufenians' influence, Jack's allies force him to kill them, causing him to absorb all of their darkness and become Chaos. He then severs the connection between Lufenia and Cornelia. It's also revealed that Jack is Garland, the first boss you fight in the first Final Fantasy and the true identity of Chaos. Ash, Jed, Neon, and Sophia are the Four Fiends. They then go 2000 years into the past, just like Chaos/Garland did in the original Final Fantasy, and wait for the Warriors of Light. The Warriors of Light are easily defeated, so Jack goes back in time and fights them again. In every loop, the Warriors of Light become stronger, until eventually they're able to easily defeat Garland. The Warriors of Light then go back in time and defeat Chaos, breaking the time loop and destroying the darkness once and for all. What the fuck.

It's kind of more like Archaon's backstory from Warhammer Fantasy. Guy sets out to stop the herald of the apocalypse, only knowing that said heralds name is Archaon. Finds out that prophecy dictates that the one searching for Archaon will end up becoming Archaon. Becomes Archaon, the herald of Chaos and the end times.
My favorite line of dialogue was the reply "No, it's ok, I memorized it" in response to being offered a music player. You're not studying for an exam, it's meant to be listened to.
The editing is key here. It adds timing. If you play the game the individual scenes wouldn't be that funny I think. Or at least less. Dunkey is great at this, he has many videos in that style, sometimes without any commentary. Still just as funny. That takes some real skill.

The ending is really nice. Overall the last stretch of the game left me with a very positive impression. I played with Japanese dub though, the English dub sounds stupid.
I know that he's their dude for FF, KH, and all similar IP, but for the love of Jesus I hope Hajime Tabata makes one from scratch. Dear Lord, TN just does not get FF. And although I started off with 12 (Pretty late in the game), everything storywise that was good about it was not conceptualized by him. He needs writers, he needs to not write those, he's just not good at it. Kingdom Hearts too, that game has no right being as convoluted a story as it is. His writing is MNS level bad, he had occasional Sixth Sense moments, but they're few and far between...
I think Nomura as ascended into that realm of Lucas-like mythos where anything that's a 'flaw' in his storytelling is just "satire" or "misinterpreted genius", and anything that's genuinely good was definitely not put there by Nomura. I think people at Square are too afraid to challenge him on things. Final Fantasy has never made a whole lot of sense, even before Nomura joined Square, but holy hell if they ever got real writers they could absolutely dominate the RPG market.

Okay, let me explain for anyone confused:
Jack, Ash, and Jed all arrive in the world of Cornelia with no memory. All they know is that they need to kill Chaos. Neon and Sophia also have a desire to kill Chaos, so they team up. Jack, Ash, Jed, and Neon all have crystals, much like the prophesied Warriors of Light, but these crystals are dark. It's later revealed that Jack, Ash, and Jed are from another dimension controlled by the Lufenians. They've been sent to Cornelia before, and attempted to destroy the darkness, which was banished to Cornelia by the Lufenians. They failed, so the Lufenians erased their memories and reset the world. The scenes where Jack is wearing white are memories from that previous attempt. He used to be friends with Astos, and was in love with Princess Sarah. The darkness once again spreads and becomes uncontrollable. In order to break free of the Lufenians' influence, Jack's allies force him to kill them, causing him to absorb all of their darkness and become Chaos. He then severs the connection between Lufenia and Cornelia. It's also revealed that Jack is Garland, the first boss you fight in the first Final Fantasy and the true identity of Chaos. Ash, Jed, Neon, and Sophia are the Four Fiends. They then go 2000 years into the past, just like Chaos/Garland did in the original Final Fantasy, and wait for the Warriors of Light. The Warriors of Light are easily defeated, so Jack goes back in time and fights them again. In every loop, the Warriors of Light become stronger, until eventually they're able to easily defeat Garland. The Warriors of Light then go back in time and defeat Chaos, breaking the time loop and destroying the darkness once and for all.

The editing is key here. It adds timing. If you play the game the individual scenes wouldn't be that funny I think. Or at least less. Dunkey is great at this, he has many videos in that style, sometimes without any commentary. Still just as funny. That takes some real skill.

Dear Lord, TN just does not get FF. And although I started off with 12 (Pretty late in the game), everything storywise that was good about it was not conceptualized by him. He needs writers, he needs to not write those, he's just not good at it. Kingdom Hearts too, that game has no right being as convoluted a story as it is.

The beautiful thing about this game is that I can't tell if it's self-parody or playing the edge completely straight.
Probably both.
I think Nomura as ascended into that realm of Lucas-like mythos where anything that's a 'flaw' in his storytelling is just "satire" or "misinterpreted genius", and anything that's genuinely good was definitely not put there by Nomura. I think people at Square are too afraid to challenge him on things. Final Fantasy has never made a whole lot of sense, even before Nomura joined Square, but holy hell if they ever got real writers they could absolutely dominate the RPG market.

He even created storyboards for the game, wrote the personalities of each character, etc. He came up with the idea for this game a decade ago.

I dunno if you'll appreciate me breaking the magic for you, but Dunkey post records all his lines. Every bit of wit is just his commentary over video he recorded. If he thinks a genuine reaction is good, he'll keep it, but probably more than 70% are added in post.
@@RuneKatashima I'm not sure if it's 100% consistent. But I've noticed when he is using mic audio from the actual recording he usually distorts the audio slightly, it almost sounds like he is talking on the phone.
