I absolutely love the Canoe, It's been my primary EDC for the past year now. Such a sweet design, classy and rugged at the same time, and the chunkier blade stock gives me the option to push it way harder than I ever thought I'd be able to
I have a boker gentleman's knife. It's one of those slim ones that fits in your shirt pocket. It has really nice orangish redish wood on the handle. Which is why it's my favorite.
If it weren''t for the pocket clip on the Caracal, which I find pretty uncomfortable, it would have been on the table. The Urban Trappers are nice too, and was one of the first two Bokers I bought personally, but aren't as heavy-duty as I wanted for the category. Cheers! -DCA
Thanks guys. Nice selection from Boker! Was glad you picked the LRF with white resin handles, grabbed my eye from the start 😊. Have ordered and look forward to receiving it.
OH I do like this series . Boker Bonco would and is my choice for small camp fixed blade . And you mentioned it the tracker . Keep it going . Thanks to you both .
Great vid - love the concept. Choosing Boker peaked my interest. I've never really connected with Boker designs and have found their quality to vary considerably. Was really interested in your opinions and observations - another set of eyes can really help. Couple of nice blades here so I think I might have a fresh look at Boker and see how I go. Sharp blades all.
Boker solingen are still the premium line, boker plus are farmed out to other manufacturers no telling who is making them, arbolito are south american and pretty good quality but limited styles and the magnum line are plain junk.
I come into these videos knowing next to nothing about knife technology, blade design, materials, grinds, etc, so these posts are so informative and I come away feeling much better prepared to make a knowledgeable purchase, I do NOT feel financially prepared however, but still enjoying these
Boker plus are comparative garbage compared to the original solingen lines. Tried a plus folder, lasted a couple years then went back to my trusty 25 year old scout
As another guy with big mitts, I love my Boker Plus Roundhouse. That M4 Sherman Damascus is definitely on my grail knife list. I'd probably choose the Boker Bronco for a hard use mid-sized knife, just because that really expensive one I might not want to use as hard. The Tracker is the obvious answer to big chopper to smash around with. The one thing you left out was the wide variety of tiny fixed blades that Boker has, many of them still fine for people with large hands: like the Pry Pro, Nessmi Mini, Mikri, and AK1.
Hi DCA, here's my five Böker list : Full size folder : Böker Plus Evade by Serge Panchenko / 3" folder : Böker Plus Canoe by Joe Mangiafico / Gentlemen folder : Böker Plus Tech Tool 1 Titan / Light fixed blade : Boker Plus Little Rok by James Helm / Full size fixed blade : Boker Plus Tracker by Dave Wenger
Need help. There was a folder profiled on a previous episode that had rope-like/helical jimping on the blade spine. I cannot remember the model or brand. Any help with that is appreciated.
With all of the $50 D2 flippers out there, I am surprised that there are 2 examples in this video that are almost $100 for a D2 bladed knife. Personally, I would not pay that much for D2 when I could get a 3.11" blade of S35VN for $70...
i mean it’s more about designs than anything, boker’s kaizen is s35vn for less than 100, if it isn’t for you it just isn’t 🤷♂️better than benchmade charging $350 for their infidel in d2
@jimbook3663 probably true. As do european stores when it comes to American knives. Surprisingly... there's nothing as cheap as what you guys pay in WMK, BladeHQ etc, etc. Everything is 25% more expensive in the reputable EU stores. Even Chinese brands cost more. If I buy directly from China, Customs might stop the order and confiscate the knife.
Hey David did you see broker came out with a slip joint gentleman knife called the atlas can you carry that over there love the Chanel keep up the good work👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Had to get the Sherman, first knife purchase due to knife and tank both matching my last name. It’s become my office (etc) carry due to the reasonable size and not being an auto.
the boker lrf is going to be my next knife. i love my crkt symmetry i bought from you but i am finding that some tasks are a little difficult with the slip joint. the knife has a habit of closing if bumped on the spine.
Nice video and interesting choices, but when i saw the thumbnail i had really different knifes come to my mind that i missed here. Kihon, Atlas and definitely the Bronco would have been high on my list.
Would you be able to compare the Boker Elso to the Taggedout and Jutland? It looks like it could be a budget substitution for those knives, after handling them would you say thats true?
Hi DCA, for a 5 knives challenge, I instantly think Böker ❤. For the full size folder, the brand new Elso, designed by Kornel Kiss perhaps exactly fits your needs.
Thanks for showing some nicer Baker stuff!, and you're right.. they aren't as well known for filing bigger knives. I liked all of them.. The CF Sherman 2.9" probably my favorite. After years of collecting I finally appreciate a good sub-3" blade. Can you do this with Kansept? They don't really have a big fixed but you could suggest something in the same vein for anything they lack. You'd be the only channel with a dedicated kansept video (they are getting very popular). Thanks guys
After the size and design of a knife grabs my attention, the next thing that l ask for in a pocket folder is a deep carry pocket clip. (Even before steel type) If the knife doesn't have a deep carry clip (as in many Spydercos) then the availability of secondary market clips must be available (as in Lynch northwest). A good example of my thinking is the Spyderco Para 3, or the Emerson CQC 7, both capable of replacing the factory clips with something from Lynch.
Cool video idea, wrong company. I've spent far too much money on Bokers only to have QC issues with every single one I've gotten including the Sherman damascus knife that has the most insane lockstick. But it sure looks cool in its display case on the mantle...
I’ve not had the issue with my Bokers but I don’t have the Sherman. For that one at the price I would have contacted Boker. My lockstick problem is the Malibu. I did have to send one Boker back with a chip out of the tang, even though I took it apart they replaced it.
@arrowheadguys7637 I've sent 2 knives back to them(1 of which I sent back 3 times before giving up) and have never been satisfied The best ones still are the ak74 autos! I have a ton of them and their amazing!! But most of the other stuff is junk

Hi DCA. We pick the same selection as you. Cowabunga.! Must also mention all the other comparison knives are great too. Out of curiousity which knives would Thomas pick for the one brand challenge? Cheers from Australia.
I totally understand what you were doing when you went the way you did, but I'd have a lot of trouble getting rid of the Canoe and the Barlow. I probably would have gone with those instead and just accepted that my 5 knife collection didn't make as much sense.
An interesting thought, especially when reading Larrin Thomas's new book. For generations, people have regarded German steel as some of the best, but it seems as though they're not too invested in keeping up with modern blade alloys. You can still find German-made x50CrMov15 in plentiful kitchen knives, but that's about it. Boker uses a lot from Böhler-Uddeholm which is Austrian. There is a facility from them in Germany, but it doesn't look like M390 or N690 is produced there. I do have a Viper Orso 2 made with German-made QPM 20-4 (Lohmann's M390 alloy) but they're not large enough to supply steel for many large-scale producers. It's probably the case that a lot of European countries have pride in manufacturing in EU countries rather than a singular source, like when us 'muricans look for "Made in USA" but maybe I'm wrong there.
If Mr Lynn Thompson is able to use the bowie sheaths stuffed inside the waistband then I'm betting that you too could pull it off lol it boggles my mind how such a large/short fella can be so martailly capable when im sure he has a difficult time even tying his shoes 😂 likely why he took to the edged weapons and especially larger ones 😝🤷♂️
Serious question: Why is it that we hardly ever see Boker on the channel anymore? Lack of new products? Lack of innovations? Value for money not competitive?

They have a thing now called a diamond sharpener.. 9.i own hundreds of knives and have given away more and better than what i have, so i am not inexperienced. 10. Some companies are very reluctant to incorporate newer, and super steel into their lineup..you know who you are. If the steel is better, i buy it. I will save up my money to get quality steel. 11. Bonus point: I have no use for, and will never own a "scandi-grind" blade. Ever. My dad once told me, "son, always buy the best quality tools you can possibly afford.." i have lived by this rule all my life. It served me well, and I have never regretted it. This translates into my knife purchases as well because a knife is a tool. Maybe the first one ever created.
The only drawback of the El Gigante is the lack of a lanyard hole. Otherwise, it's a very good knife. I think it's better than the similar Cold Steel Trail Master Bowie.
This series is amazing but holy crap it's exhausting. So many knives that DCA has to see and to put just merely like 10-15 on the table and go from there. DCA = knife jesus

I’d argue that the Boker Barlow series would be a great fit for the gentleman’s category
That's what I was thinking. The urban Barlow feels more of a gentleman's knife.

An interesting thought, especially when reading Larrin Thomas's new book.
