    Awesome video that had both single coils and humbuckers, was very "fair" by playing through studio monitors, and was an actual A/B without interruptions between amp and pedal. Great job. Subscribed.

    What I can tell from this demo of the Ruby and the Dream pedal I own is that UA cleans up the EQ problems the amps have. The amps on their own area classic sound but they always get EQ’ed on recordings or via guitar pedals. We’re used to that EQ’ed sound. Switch on the Ruby or the Dream while plugged into an amp and you hear the UA pedals improve the amp, that is, they EQ the amp and suddenly the boxy nature of the amps goes away. That said, plug these UA pedals directly into a sound card does have a very ‘in-your-face’ nature to it. That’s to say, it doesn’t breathe at all like a mic sitting in front of an amp. So, in my opinion, the best situation is a guitar to UA pedal to an amp being mic’ed. That is a very sweet recording chain. When I have doubts about it, I switch off the UA pedal and suddenly the real nature of the amp is revealed: a bit boxy, mid-heavy, not EQ’ed the way it ends up as a released music to the public.

    07:50 there is no difference - and we are listening in a quiet room ( I guess), concentrating on sound differences. If there would be a singer or even drums, then no one could tell. Is this the pedal The Edge is using right now at his Sphere gigs? I heard he is not using amps anymore

    One important thing to say: I have the Ruby pedal and it sounds GREAT connected to a speaker or PA system. However, when we connect it to an interface for direct recording, its sound is quite disappointing and has NO relation to a real AC30. It's a good piece of equipment, but I would only recommend it to replace live amplifiers.

      We felt something similar and came to the conclusion that it has to do with the room. When you hear anything through a speaker you're also getting the reflections from off the environment which changes your hearing perception. Thats why amps feel and sound so different than digital emulators. Try running a real amp DI with an IR and you'll notice the same difference. For us the best comparison was when hearing the pedal through a set of studio monitors and then comparing it to a real amp. even then it isn't the same response of a guitar cabinet.
      In conclusion, if you can add some sort of room emulation reverb plugin to the pedal, you'll hear a world of difference for the better.

      I do a lot of studio work. Modelers almost always have this issue IMHO. I find that if you just record your tracks with modeler (use an IR) then when done bounce all the tracks and record the isolated track with a microphone on your studio monitor you may find this helps your issue. Milage and tire wear may vary. But I've found this to be very helpful.

    Couldn't tell the difference through the Ox but of course there was a difference with the mic'd up cab.

  • @RockG.o.d
    @RockG.o.d Рік тому +2

    With the mic'd amp, I could tell which was which by making that educated guess, because the mic placement on the amp wasn't really ideal, but once it went through the ox, the differences disappeared. How does the amp pedal feel to play compared to the real amp?

    There is a clear difference, and the amp either needs work or it needs to be set up differently. It sounds way too dark.

      This goes back to the lawsuits people faced when they rented out movies they purchased back in the 90s. Once they buy that Vox the sound is theirs to do with as they please. All of the work they put into duplicating it belongs to them. Its ok as long as theyre not using Voxs actual product and saying its their own

      @waltgracevintage8620 but can you use as an amp head and if using it as a normal drive pedal should it be in the effects loop or front of amp I have a peavey classic 20w head and 1×12 combo

    • @granthambeard
      @granthambeard Рік тому

      @@GuitarBaileyyes you can use it as an amp head but for live you'd need to either run it through the send and returns of your peavey, or if it doesn't have that option then put it through the input of the peavey but disable the speaker sim, OR get an FRFR amp which is basically an amplifier with no "colour" allowing you to make all the tone based decisions with your ruby and pedals.

    First off, nice playing guys, and thanks for posting. Secondly, even though one source was an actual Vox amp, I didn’t hear anything that was characteristically Vox-like to begin with… so all of this is moot.

    the biggest downsides of the UA amps in pedal is their size (dont fit on pedaltrain nano) and fact they have no headphones output

    • @victorpetersen1929
      @victorpetersen1929 6 місяців тому +1

      Headphones yes and could have also been nice with an xlr out, but it’s hard to complain about the size when it’s replacing the entire amp in a pedal format.
