Yo, I know those must still have those live-axles, its amazing to see how much technology and R&D Ford put into keeping that rear-end relevant for as long as they could; because those turns look bumpy.
And I wonder how much of this car is the Z28; probably gutted and caged, and called it a day.
Elephant at this level of competition racing, i bet that they got rid of those live-axles and swapped em out. They have the money and sponsorships. Otherwise, the mustangs would not even be competitive in circuit racing
Elephant you mean Chevrolet? no live axle on camaros.
thedude8267 I'm talking about the Ford's he passed twice on that lap.
***** The Boss 302 R in CTSCC spec still uses the live axle. Its a simple and dated design, but it's worked since Ford came back to Grand-Am in '05 when the 2005 mustang came back and cleaned house so badly it had to be de-tuned and weighed down to keep things competitive. A live axle is not a bad thing, unless you happen to be at a bumpy track, like Sebring, where a mid-corner bump can make things dicey. Each car has its pros/cons and the mustang excels at speed coming out of the corner, BECAUSE of the live axle and how well it puts power down. Consequently it suffers in the more technical tracks where the M3 and 911 shine. The 2015 CTSCC mustang with IRS is still testing and will probably debut later this season.
It's surprisingly close to stock. This is one that was reworked slightly by Pratt & Miller and includes their carbon fiber hood, trunk lid, and doors. The aerodynamics package is the same as the Z/28 street car. They're not allowed additional aero aides like many of the other teams. The engine is a stock LS7 that has had it's rev limit dropped from ~7200 rpm to 6400 rpm and has a restrictor plate behind the throttle body, per IMSA balance of performance rules. It does have a custom MBRP catless true dual/X-piped straight pipe exhaust, but they're required to run stock manifolds. The transmission is a stock Tremec TR6060 that's been blueprinted and had carbon fiber synchros added. The only real chassis mods to speak of are some reinforcements, additional suspension adjustments, and the roll cage. The interior has been pretty well gutted. The brakes have to be changed to standard iron discs, since they're not allowed to run the factory carbon ceramics rotors. The factory shocks are also not allowed in the series.
So, in essence, they have to do some serious detuning to the Z/28 per IMSA rules to level the playing field. It would certainly be interesting to see a stock Z/28 run a few laps against the Z/28.R and see how the 2 compare.
Six speed manual? Sweet!
Sick
Rev matching downshifts at its finest! Talk about driver mod
Bryan Hoskin what are you talking about?
why not sequential dude? i mean racing right..
He's using a dog box which can shift just as fast...but I'm guessing regulations prevent a sequential :/
Man... I've never realized how terrible the visibility on a Camaro was.
can anyone identify the first car he overtakes?
BMW of some sort
KrazyKong108 A toyota Prius driving in reverse.
M3
KrazyKong108 looked like a BMW, the blue/white one before the Aston Martins right?
