    This was great, Igor! I've recently been watching vids of how to use grayscale images to create displacements. You did a little of that, but most of the detail here was SCULPTED! Amazing work, sir!

      Thank you sir! :) Aim for the spirit and ideas more than technical perfection at first. ( i tend to always catch up with technical knowledge later on) Get yourself inspired to create. Once you have that going,knowledge will pile up as you go.
      Try to learn stuff as you go,and when you need it,rather than pile up bunch of data without using it. If you watch tutorials,do your own thing parallel to watching them,only using their techniques ,but on your model. And think of opportunities where this particular trick or tip might come in handy,even if it wasnt specifically mentioned before. :)

    Back again, 5 years later! _LOL_ I know you refine a lot later in the process, but what's the highest res you've started with, in ShadowBox? BTW: This reminds me of a '60s era Jack Kirby ship: Solid but elegant!

    Awesome concept, and really inspiring!
    I feel like the design got a tad cluttered towards the end though. Just as personal preference I like large areas of rest in design, contrasted by sections with loads of details (especially when the major forms are really appealing). Some of the ship's great silhouette got lost behind all of all the small pieces sticking out of it. For me, I think the ship's basic design shone through at its strongest around half way through the video (8 minutes in). I would have stuck to smaller details like paneling and alphas (which don't disturb the major shapes) at that point.
    But that's just me. Crazy good work dude! I need to try something like this.

    • @pukey82
      @pukey82  8 років тому +1

      Yeah,I agree on all points in general,and they are frequently issues i face with. This video was almost three years ago,and i still sometimes fight with it. But I still enjoy the creating part,no matter the outcome. Thanx a lot man,cool and clear critique,glad you like it in general! :)

    • @robertnicholls9917
      @robertnicholls9917 7 років тому

      adamdecoder1 Great critique! It's still good work but many designers have issues with a silent form. They usually address their discomfort by adding too much or creating more dynamism in the form. It's why many cars look like cats in heat or they contain integrated, subdominant forms, which are trying to fly out of the dominant form.
      That said, it's ok to be busy. Igor struck a good balance.

    Great video man. really excellent. Picked up quite a bit from this... What is the tool you use to make the straight lines on the mesh? You made it looks like you used pannel loops but you just sculpted it in (much better if you ask me!)

      Thanx man. :) I use "lazy mouse" option. It is under the "stroke" group.And I apply it on a Dam_standard brush. It has been a while since I used Zbrush,but yeah I didnt use panel loops. For concepting ,sculpting is faster using older ways... When I make time,I will try Zbrush R7. Who knows what new wonders they added in there. :)

    Hello. At 45 sec in I was wondering how you managed to create the curved extrusion with the rotate transpose line? Thank you

    • @pukey82
      @pukey82  7 років тому

      Hello! I made the mask gradual using left clicking on the masked area. (you can use alt +click to sharpen) Because of this, the movement ov polygons is gradual ,following the transpose lines angle. No special tricks involved. :)

  • @05Sebas
    @05Sebas 9 років тому

    Looks very cool and its a very interesting design, I just want to know how you bend the geometry so well (3:23 minute), you use transpose or deformation to do that? any advice?

    • @pukey82
      @pukey82  9 років тому

      Juanse3D Thanx,glad you like it.. :) I use a rotate transpose tool. Make sure the subtool is subdevided enough so it can stretch without ugly artefacts,and after you mask off the parts you dont want,make sure to smooth out the mask border as much as you can. This way you will get a nice clean stretch. :)

      MAX and Z-brush are too expensive, and i also tried the trial of both and they were the most annoying program to use ever.... :( People are excited about PolyPaint, I am waiting for just cutting and masking...

      Yeah that is true about the price. But they are also immencely powerfull... for professional wirk it is well worth the price most probably. I just hate MAX-s subscription model. Yeah polypaint can be cool but it is nothing spectacular.... Masking and cutting, specially dynamesh are fantastic! :)

      It wouldn't be long lasting at all but thanks. It's just a small one but I understand.
