Parker is here am sooooooo happy to watch you, I haven't joined full time filmmaker yet but just your UA-cam videos have taught me a lot about filmmaking... You are my hero much love from Africa.... Can't wait to join the course
Thanks Nick, thanks Parker - some great tips in improving the audio. And some DIY tips too that are super helpful. I'm working to improve my audio in my videos. I liked the blanket hack for improving audio in an empty room. And the placement of the mic in a car owing to the fact that I shoot a lot of my videos in a vehicle. All the best, Cheers Rick
I’m going to always point people to this video who keep making videos but don’t know a thing about audio. Thanks for showing and recording the differences!
Audio is more than 50% of the experience. Thank you for giving audio the priority it deserves. The viewer can’t tune out annoying or inadequate audio as they can video. Otherwise good videos can be degraded by inadequate or annoying audio from a creator who is content to say “I’m just not an audio guy.”
Parker, is by far undoubtedly the most helpful and useful filmmaker youtube channel, which is very detailed and straightforward, where other channel tend to do unnecessary thing, he just went straight to the point and pours us with his knowledge and experience, I'm so thankful for your channel, only hope for the best for you. #goat
Thanks for the video, so many helpful tips. Gonna toss out another one (sorry if mentioned and i missed it): controlled background sounds. If your inside and there is a AC unit (or central air); turn it off when possible, if there is a refrigerator; unplug, if there is forced hot air heat or any devices, utilities, fans, etc; turn them off. Sucks when your in the middle of a shot and something kicks on (unplanned and not intended to be part of the shot). Also being mind full of the environment, if by a school watch bus scheduled (or town/city transportation), kids reassess, noon church bells, things like that.... ok, maybe that was two suggestions :) Thanks again.
11:01 You forgot to mention a rather important adjustment in the compressor: The Threshold. If the threshold is higher than the audio signal that comes into the compressor, it won't do a thing. I usually playback my audio and start bringing the threshold knob down, until I see the red indicator do something. I make sure that I do see the red indicators doing a little, to know that I have compression.
Saigon is an audio challenge at every turn. Constant motorbike noise from the heavy traffic, Karaoke and "adv" speaker at busineses add to that. Indoors, most building are concrete and tile with high ceilings. The audio sounds like you are in an empty auditorium. I shoot mostly location and the challenges are constant for my UA-cam content. The tips you have given are very helpful, thanks guys.
thank you Parker and team! as always GOLD! You should mention noise removing apps like Audiotion (internal fx) and iZotope RX. Also Beatrig Sidekick for automatic sidechain a music to your voice. Thank you!!!
Great video, bro! Also 1 more tip from me - at the beginning of video, keep 3-5 sec. without talk, just to capture the noise if have some. So later in post you can reduce it with great success.
This is exactly what I have been looking for. Audio can be really complicated and often videos don't cover the first steps of doing the audio correctly.
Great video Parker. Good tips for beginners and I learned a few things even though I've been involved in video production for over 30 years. Recently we added the audio-technica AT2035 mini mixer to our audio package. When shooting with our mirrorless cameras, it allows us to output a low-level feed into our camera via the mic input. This signal is then passed through the HDMI cable to our Atomos Inferno. When I'm using our Sony a7R III, we get great audio on the SD card in the camera, great audio on the SSD in the Atomos and as a 3rd back-up (yes, I'm paranoid about audio), we can record on the SD card in the mixer. Plus, we get great control over levels with the mixer. It's small, light weight and runs on AA batteries. I recommend it as a nice addition to anyone's audio kit.
Great tips! Highly recommend using audio recorders with 32 bit float option to avoid peaking forever and have the game-changing feature of "raw" audio recording.
@@nitablackwood6301, I've got an f2 on order. Incredible feature for the price point! Only thing better would be to also have high quality wireless audio for recording redundancy and traditional monitoring. That's just dreaming for the f2 price. Plus in US therenis a patent on that feature combo.
@@mikeyfl I'll definitely be picking this up then. I'm new to filmmaking and will need a recorder for my documentary interviews. Hopefully this will be pretty good.
My general rule of thumb is just over -12 db when recording audio. If you go to -6db you run the risk of it clipping. Plus you can always make something louder but you can't fix over peaking.
You guys are the absolute best. Thanks to this video I was able to complete an almost impossible task for me at work as a beginner and the results were unreal from the bottom of my heart... thank you for all that you do.
Omg your UA-cam videos look soooo professional, thank you for this video, I’m currently working on a video for my school, and I’m in charge of sound ... this is gonna help a lot, thank you!
Your tutorials are first class. What I'll take with me from this clip is especially the tips with the blankets and the relation between back ground music and the voice.
Clap echo check & Take-dependent Sync clap were the best hints! Also making a back up record! & setting the limit for the sound condensers before equalizing!
Andy Simmons Your parents and grandparents sound awesome! It sounds like they’re using current technology to keep learning new things, which is fantastic. You’re very lucky to have them. 🤙🏼
Excelente!!!! 👏👏👏👏👏 Sólo faltó: Pedir a la gente que hable fuerte y claro directo al micrófono, que no gire la cabeza para todos lados porque el mic pierde el registro si está fuera del eje o patrón de captación del microfono (de mesa) ....
Great tips! I think balancing music and dialogue is really important as well. One super easy tip is just to add EQ to your music and make a small cut in the high-mids, somewhere around 1k-2k. Adjust it to taste, but those are the frequencies that often get in the way of understanding a voice!
The audio I take is mainly of live bands in small clubs. I use a Zoom. Easiest mistake to make is forgetting to turn the mike on. I usually use a phone for backup. Sometimes the sound is better than main mike. Also, it can be blended with audio from main mike. External microphones work well with phones but you may need an adapter. Main problem here is you can't monitor the sound (at least I haven't found a way . . . but then I haven't looked!). Bring batteries. If there's a mixer in the set up, record from that. First class video.
That's an amazing video that gave me the knowledge from basic to advanced steps to ensure clean audio capture during my UA-cam shoots. Thanks a ton. Keep up the good work.
Topical for me, I just had a lav die pre-event and no boom help, only onboard-camera sennheiser. The tips on Synching etc in Premiere Pro are just what I needed....along with a c-stand. This is very well mapped out video. Applause.
This is a really good video tutorial. I'm never going to use the vast majority of these tips but I was captivated by the content and production values and watched the whole thing anyway. Great work.
You dont have to export with alpha and drop it in. You can dynamic link an AE in PR, do it in Ae and see it instantly in PR, with the advantage that you can change it anytime and it updates in realtime without having to export it again and dropping it in again.
Found out that the “clock” in many Prosumer cameras (Nikon Z6) are not accurate enough to capture dialogue from several actors and Curtis recommended using a Zoom F4 (rather than my H6) and set that as the Time Code and tentacle to provide an audio track for the camera body(s)
This video is great. Such good examples. and the video clips in some of the premiere recording are videos of what you are saying. its just really well thought out and well done. you've earned a sub.
Thank you for the tips. I particularly appreciate the sync-clap. So simple but I don't know why I have not thought about it before as I have to sync sound to video virtually every week. For me this tip is PRICELESS so thanks guys!!!
Another 'audio for video' tip is go ahead and mix the audio to correct levels first. THEN start editing your cuts in your video NLE editor program second. Also, if you are working a batch of different takes or scenes such as testimonials for a website sourced from different subjects, locations and background noise environments, put ALL scene audio clips on ONE audio track and try using what Parker suggested in the audio mix. If all else fails for a consistent even volume level, even after getting each clip under control, you can perform a final mix with mastering like the pro recording engineers do a for an album with a pro grade of audio software. When you have over a dozen or more different clips you can see how the time savings is 10X faster in post-production. And Parker, I did purchase one of your courses in recent past years. You've really honed in your groove on these YT videos. Well done! #FistBumpsBack
