Parker, I swear, you're the only creator on UA-cam who's videos I don't dread watching when I look at the video length. Watching a 25 minute video of yours is worth every second because you don't waste a single one of them.
I’m a professional photographer who’s made the decision to get into video. I’m just setting up my kit and researching my ass off on everything video. This video is by far one of the best of the hundreds of hours I’ve watched so far. Thank you for taking the time to share content like this.
Holy moly! You literally covered every little detail to get professional looking results and you did it with less than $1K!! Insane. My mind is blown. I can't even right now. You're about to put 50% of us videographers out of business.
Our business is moving into the online space - after scouring many tutorials on UA-cam this is hands down the best condensed value in 24 minute by far! Brilliant work Parker!
I work as a professional cameraman for many years now. But I still watch videos like this one. There is always room for improvement. I still look for the best way to get the interviewees at ease. When I arrive at location with the reporter, we always start with a cup of coffee and talk about the stuff we will film. We go over the questions etc. I find it important to be there as well. At least for the first few minutes. It kind of breaks the ice. But, people tend to get uncomfortable in front of the camera, when I hit the record trigger. In between takes people seem to be more relaxed. But still a huge contrast with the coffee-chat-moment. It kind of helps when we have them holding something in their hands. It somehow takes their attention off the camera. We usually have them standing, talking off-camera, to the interviewer. It gives a more pro-active posture. But sitting down helps to relax. But for a lot of people it's still an unnatural way of talking. Long story short... I hope there are people out there, including you Parker Walback, who know how to deal with this little frustration. And, this might be a wonderful topic for a tutorial someday 😎
@ Edwin it's called letting humans be human. Ofc ppl aren't gonna feel at ease with multiple ppl and equipment around them. I give ppl a general idea of what we're gonna talk about and don't actually talk until the camera & sound are rolling. That way, it's a natural conversation and nobody's rehearsing. That archaic hollyweird way of interviewing is wack..plain & simple.
I saw many videos which talked about different aspects of filming such interview/tutorial, but quite honestly no other video has covered all the important points as you have done. Be it lighting, camera setting, composition and what not . You have covered everything. Literally everything. And the way you have explained, its commendable. A very big thanks for such good tutorial.
I have to be honest. Whenever I see your ads pop up, it completely turned me off and I never gave them a chance. Any association with a pre-roll immediately feels salsey to me... but this video hooked me in and covered SO MUCH. Well put-together and clearly thought out, even minor details like the lav mic adapter. Great work, I’m finally subscribed, haha
This should be the template for "How To Tutorial" UA-cam Videos. Parker delivers all the points needed in each video without the fluff. I have also purchased some of his paid training courses and they are excellent!
As a long time TV editor (30+ years), and a newbie at shooting (as an independent video freelancer) your tutorial is GOLD..... Thanks for the lighting tips and the prompter details, I will "up" my game after this! I too have gone the "budget" route with a Canon 90D, Ronin S, Mavic Pro "fly more kit", some LED lights and a softbox and some old Sony radio mics and the results are remarkably "high end". I could shoot a TV commercial for broadcast with this gear!
"Yo dawg...we heard you like tutorials so we put a tutorial in your tutorial so you can tutorialize while you tutor." This is actually a good 101 for this, probably the best ive seen on how to get sh*t done quickly and cheaply.
Nobody I record is that relaxed. A lot of entrepreneurs are Type A personalities to begin with. Asking them to sit still while you set up is often the most frustrating part of the job, especially when you're recording at their place of business, they don't want to "shut down" in case they miss something.
I actually learned how to do interviews from this one video. It was a jumping off point and as I did more I got a little more educated and experienced. Still have a lot to learn and that is why I am going to get Parker’s course.
Very useful content, if you haven't ever thought about light positions, audio settings, framing someone or which camera settings ... watch and learn, gosh this saves you a lot of time in experimenting and getting things wrong. If you have a client with you and you get the filming wrong, that's it, once the client has gone you just can't retake the whole interview ... so thank you this has been a great leap to better video setups for interview recordings.
I'm noticing that the cheaper gear looks better, the softer lenses makes skin seem smoother when shown side by side ... you make amazing FREE content!

Maybe this is my first comment on youtube. The most detailed and most instructive tutorial about “making video” I've ever seen. Not a single second wasted in vain. Thx for this amazing content. Greetings from İstanbul.

I found this video to be quite empowering in the sense of it giving a full spectrum of all the interdisciplinary clues needed by literally "anyone" to produce content at the level of expectations of modern channels today whether it is UA-cam, Udemy, etc. I have been roaming in this sphere for a while trying to find my way into starting to produce content and even though different people have succeeded in clarifying certain areas of the process, there has not been a single video that filled in all the blanks as much as this one. Quite an amazing tutorial.

@@dietwedge Bro, the lense makes the difference, not the body. It's the most basic thing you learn when you start with photography. I know 1DX Mark has more AF points, more fps, better ISO range etc. sure makes it easier to get the shot you want, but it's not mandatory.
O.G.H this is not photography, this is video...there are differences. And that camera is leaps and bounds better then the $600. If you don’t think that makes a difference, you need to hit the books.

You should have mentioned quickly what focal length you ended up shooting at, and how different focal lengths can warp human subjects 😁
It looks like he shot it at 15 mm.
@@jordanchase8059 I see :) I generally use as a rule of thumb that I shouldn't shoot human subjects at less than 30mm
by far the best video i have come across for shooting tutorials, simply the best
Hey 🤙 thank you for this video. I have a audio question- how is the different when I use a boom mic in this room? Is it significant better?
Because I have a similar room and don’t wanna use so much absorber 🙏 thank you
Might work pretty good. Make sure to bring it as close to the person as possible.
If you need to get it in frame, make sure you have a still background behind the mic to mask it out in post. 😉
This is a gold class tutorial worth more than a like, a subscribe, an all notif bell, and a share. Love it.

Parker man, I love the delivery! Despite people complaining about cost - you still made a video with cheaper equipment! Goes to show, people will Always have something to say, even when you're trying to help them out...
You're doing great man, I love your work.
So, today he went to school and he ate his lunch.
That was amazing - my UA-cam lessons are going to look so much better thanks to these 25 minutes. And the promoter tip is a game changer. Thank you so much!
Parker: As you can see there isnt a huge difference in quality....
*Canon Guy who made a $7500 canon 1dxmii: (Mike Wazowski poker face meme)
The guy wasting 7k for almost the same results: I should've bought that second hand VW Golf
@@O.G.H. you can look at the end results of both setups and see them as the same thing?
@@dietwedge Bro, the lense makes the difference, not the body. It's the most basic thing you learn when you start with photography. I know 1DX Mark has more AF points, more fps, better ISO range etc. sure makes it easier to get the shot you want, but it's not mandatory.
O.G.H this is not photography, this is video...there are differences. And that camera is leaps and bounds better then the $600. If you don’t think that makes a difference, you need to hit the books.
@@dietwedge But if I wanted to make videos, wouldn't I get a 4K camera that is specialized in video recording? If photography isn't my main reason, then I should look for vide cameras, no?
Bravo. I started learning videography to make dance tutorials, and eventually started to get hired for small projects and interviews. I learned a TON from your channel.
Have You guys upgraded to The 1Dxiii?
@@fulltimefilmmaker Okay Sir!👌🏻
@@fulltimefilmmaker Okay, no one has answered! Can it do 4:2:2 10 bit 4K 60p DPAF externally???
@@squidward3333 Yes It can plus You have the option of RAW Too
1 of the few youtubers who actually deserve a million subscribers.. straight knowledge and bs.
00:12 "I did a turorial about a year ago showing you how to shoot a tutorial" -this guy 2020.
So much value with not a moment wasted! Thanks you man, I see your ads all the time🔥 Subbed!
Cool tips but the model looks like he's there against his will lol. Blink twice if you need to be rescued dude!
Parker, you're one of my favorite filmmaker. Thanks for your awesome videos.
The guy looks really stressed tho
Because parker just spent 1000$ on gear he doesnt need
It was not an insult, sorry if it sounded like that
And it was about the guy who you recorded, not you Parker. You look professional. And the video is great :)
One of the best videos on youtube. You explain things extremely well. 🔥
Amazing how you can make a 25 minute video filled with information without any bullshit. Looking forward to the next one!
It's really amazing how with the depth of knowledge you might have on these equipments... you still explain it so well to reach a beginners level.. Thanks!🙏🏽
Finally a very well done video tutorial on this subject, I wish I could show you my yt history of the last two days to see the list of stuff I went through before to find this one which covers everything I needed in one video. You won my sub today.
