It is really beautiful seeing Andy Powell solo for hours with Wishbone Ash. He has been the only constant member of the band for nearly 55 years, but he is often obscured by a lot of other rock guitarists from that same era.
I had the great privilege of seeing these guys in 1974 at a small college auditorium that to this day, was the best concert I ever attended! They were at their best with the original lineup, just like in this video ...among my peers, they were well-known and much appreciated!
I remember listening to WA in the early '70's when I was in college, but I don't remember them being this good. How come it took me 40 years to really "discover" these guys? It's a shame how many things we come to appreciate late in the game or, worse, after they're gone.
Jeezo! i was groovin' on ZZ Top back in '73. How the hell is it that I'm just now discovering Wishbone Ash in 2021??? Can't remember this ever being played on KMET back in the day. Know what? It's still all good because it's new to me now when almost everything on rock radio sucks. Glad I found it! BB
They never really had any radio exposure... Blowin' Free is probably one of their more popular songs. It puzzles me too. I've been lucky enough to have dug this band since '75, after the album "Argus" came out ('74).
It's FANTASTIC to See Video of this GREAT Song! I Played to DEATH Song from my Philgramage LP...SO glad I have CD. I REALLY Crank up my Stereo when this Song is Played!
I wish they would have used this on 'Live Dates' instead of 'Baby What You Want Me To Do'. It's obviously the same tour. It would have improved what is already one of the greatest albums ever! Awesome! Thanx.
like alot of great band us aor stations wont play this stuff. sad people would love it even today if given a chance, i saw them in germany when i was in the army and was blown away.
I saw these 'live' in 1972...the first time I had seen Orange amps.... Wow! What a sound.... exactly like their album... you cannot say that of many bands live performances....
this was the last track on the pilgrimage album, recorded live, and just made them a must see band.always went down well in newcastle, saw them many years later in 1981 @ reading and the first thing andy asked was is any one from newcastle in before playing blowin free
i am 55 i was at this concert too it was great!!!!!!!!! i was in such a good mood i wanted to dance but i was about 40 feet back and there was no room i had fun ill never forget it i saw the camera and wondered when id get to see the video such a long wait mike a guy in the audience
I remember a long time ago a friend of mine telling me that she went to a concert with the Allman Brothers and Wishbone Ash on the same bill. This was a logical choice, since they were both dual lead guitar bands.
2:07-Jumps in like a house on fire, and keeps going like the Energizer Bunny! 4:06 breaks into this cool jazz comping /soloing....I mean, really-does it get any better than this? I think not.
YUP Ditto that, The've been an inspiration and a joy to watch live ... Thanx all ! - But what is that 'Raver' diong in the middle of ths set in 1973 ... lol
There's nothing prog about this performance. It's an English guy like Clapton et al playing straight ahead in your face electric delta blues. That Flying V guitar reminds me of delta bluesman Albert King's V. Get a earful of those Johnny Be Good licks!
Yeh sure - totally agree! - this is BLUES... WA do sometimes rock out in blues fashion, and it's great! - I do like Rush, but you can't compare these bands at all - too different...
@JeffKnight The Ash were great -- but I'd say that where twin lead bands are concerned they were a very respectable second to Gorham/Robertson-era Thin Lizzy.
It doesn't matter what I believe. It only matters what is. Either I sense beauty very well or I don't. I'm not in competition with others in this regard. The only arrogance is in thinking that we matter. We should all want to die forgotten men. We should like all the colors equally. They each have a unique function. Yellow is a happy color etc. Colors in themselves have no beauty. Beauty comes in what's done with them. I need a pickup truck. You drive what you need. We marry our soul-mates.
good- but needs a light RE-master of volume level- it's over-loading speaker systems- the way it is- turn it down right away- and you're ok i went to level 5

Love the Wishbone Ash music from this period: Wishbone Ash, Pilgrimage, Argus.
That was fn AWESOME! Best band there ever was or ever will be!!!👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Awesome band live ! 1973 Seattle
Great, I love the way they blend blues with hard rock what an underrated band.
Though I am always partial to Martin Turner as the voice of Wishbone Ash, they all rocked it in their own ways. Fan-tastic group.

Amen to that
Have the same feeling - somehow I remember them as being a little bland. But this is a revelation!
🔮🙌🏼🤩🎯🎸🎸🥁🎸
@@markelliott7650Never bland..
Amazing how they took a simple blues tune and jammed like this. Wow!
These men are freaking awesome.
1973 was a golden year for music.
Lovely mixture of Gibson and Fender tones on the lead solo! Great band!

cause you never saw them live
have argus and discovering what a great and under appreciated band they were....long live wishbone..
remarkable sound, unique climate
Best wishes for YOU Ted, Andy, Martin etc.
It's FANTASTIC to See Video of this GREAT Song! I Played to DEATH Song from my Philgramage LP...SO glad I have CD.
I REALLY Crank up my Stereo when this Song is Played!
How could anybody not like these guys?
They were the best of their ilk! Very charismatic and exciting live.
Great! Andy Powell rocks!
I loved them back in 1973!
Saw them in Salisbury last year with my Dad (introduced them to me when i was 7)
Great stuff
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD THE BIGEST BAND IN ROCK HISTORY
The more I listen to this the more I like it.
Damn wish I had noticed these guys back in the day, I missed out on alot I guess
Andy, Ted, something really cool about seeing them together. It's likely newer viewers don't really know how they influenced guitar art.
Absolutely...
I wish they would have used this on 'Live Dates' instead of 'Baby What You Want Me To Do'. It's obviously the same tour. It would have improved what is already one of the greatest albums ever! Awesome! Thanx.
Since the live version of this song is on the 'Pilgrimage' album, that's probably why they left it off 'Live Dates'.
the memories come flooding back
like alot of great band us aor stations wont play this stuff. sad people would love it even today if given a chance, i saw them in germany when i was in the army and was blown away.
Awesome!!!
groovin ! love them forever
I saw these 'live' in 1972...the first time I had seen Orange amps.... Wow! What a sound.... exactly like their album... you cannot say that of many bands live performances....
First time for me in '72 also. If this was in Milwaukee Wi I was there!!!
Me two! at the Paramount in Seattle . Blown Away
Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I saw them in Ulm in '82, and if there is a better live band, you couldn't prove it by me.
the finest blues rock i've ever heard
the best band with the best songs. how could they they go so under the radar when they meant more to those who listened than led zeppelin?
gotta love the guy in the overalls giving it all he's got
Smokin my stuff back then . We had fun rockin
this was the last track on the pilgrimage album, recorded live, and just made them a must see band.always went down well in newcastle, saw them many years later in 1981 @ reading and the first thing andy asked was is any one from newcastle in before playing blowin free

Great to hear this again! Been a long time!
What can I say fn awesome killer band there's no better
I remember a long time ago a friend of mine telling me that she went to a concert with the Allman Brothers and Wishbone Ash on the same bill. This was a logical choice, since they were both dual lead guitar bands.
I saw Wishbone Ash open for the Allman Brothers at Clemson University in fall of 1971. The were the tightest live band I've ever seen.
Love this song!
I too saw them first time around 1970 in Birmingham UK, my favourite band ever since, thanks for uploading
Steve Upton is doing an awesome job on the drums too! love that band to this day
GREAT !
It lifted me right out of my personal blues ...
May 11, The Triple Door, Seattle, WA.......... Great band. can't wait to see them.

BLUES ROCK ANDY POWELL GRANDE A LA GUITARRA
Wouahhh !!!
got to love those dancers too
They were always better live than in the studio because of the improve
Rock'n'Roll all over
I don't believe in personal tastes. Beauty is a universal constant. Some percieve it better than others.
They were part of growing up - in Hollywood Florida in the 70's
2:07-Jumps in like a house on fire, and keeps going like the Energizer Bunny! 4:06 breaks into this cool jazz comping /soloing....I mean, really-does it get any better than this?
I think not.
You ought to look for a video of Alvin Lee with his band "Ten Years After" at Woodstock circa 1969, because that's exactly where this lick came from.
Looks like Elton John with a guitar, but sure knows how to play some rock'n roll!
YUP Ditto that, The've been an inspiration and a joy to watch live ... Thanx all ! - But what is that 'Raver' diong in the middle of ths set in 1973 ... lol
Best live band I've ever seen
Passar ju ypperligt så här till "krusetåren" på morronen ;)
Fortfarande lika bra! En upplevelse live! 🕺👍
andy powell rocks
now that's what I call BOGEY .And I sure ass hell love to BOGEY
Gotta love the Kimono......
@slw59 I have thought for 30+ years that "Sometime World" should have been on "Live Dates". Good call!
Yeah, triffic band! Bones.
this video was at the chicagos connetic playground cause i remember the guy dancing whith the white shirt on.
Wow, so this is who Eddie Van Halen needs to thank for part of his intro to "Eruption"(between 0:24 - 0:46)
Weave it baby....
michaei schenker plays flying V too
Ted Turner sure can play.
Ted Turner,what a handsome man.
2:10 ! Hey, look everybody! I'm dancing!! Will no one dance with me????
FINE
@johnhors Cool! I thought I heard some Green in there
where does that little melody at 3:42... come from?
Always blend a Gibson with a Fender. Lynyrd Skynyrd did it!
Now there's the Rub!
There's nothing prog about this performance. It's an English guy like Clapton et al playing straight ahead in your face electric delta blues. That Flying V guitar reminds me of delta bluesman Albert King's V. Get a earful of those Johnny Be Good licks!

hahaha tha guy dancing in 2:10
@JeffKnight The Ash were great -- but I'd say that where twin lead bands are concerned they were a very respectable second to Gorham/Robertson-era Thin Lizzy.
Hahahaha😊 good joke👍👍
@flubbumx
Rory was doing tapping when EVH was still pissing his diapers.

This video explains why WA weren't prog rock. Thank you Spinal Tap, for exposing this tripe!
good- but needs a light RE-master of volume level- it's over-loading speaker systems- the way it is- turn it down right away- and you're ok i went to level 5
Hey I already uploaded this video!
its a pentatonic blues lick its been done before van halena and done before this
@ttoflea Save room in the machine for me.
Why were people so slim in those days?
the dancing guy at 2:06 pissed me off
i can see triumph was influenced heavily !!
