    I dont care about weight if the shoes have stability, structure and mainly energy return. Glideride 2, Tempo Next and Invincible are the best trainers I have and all of them as you said about ZF5 let my legs absolutely fresh after my marathon work outs. Good review, Andy. I appreciate your take on this shoe. It just shows that you can't make your own judgements off other peoples opinions on whether a shoe is "good" or "bad". You need to try the shoes for yourself to see how you like them. Glad this shoe works for you!

    A great review backed up with stats and put through a range of paces and distances. I guess it’s high expectations with this shoe. I could tell by the leaked photos it wouldn’t be light. The zoom invincible had a similar mixed response at launch, in a rotation it’s fantastic and one shoe I couldn’t be without now.

    Def misunderstood. Quite heavy but awesome for those long cruise intervals 2-3 mile or 10k reps. I wouldn’t use it for a speed workout because it is a bit heavy. It is awesome for half marathon to marathon training. Also to compress the firmer ZoomX foam, you need to be a heavier runner. I actually suggest this for runners weight more than 175 lbs+. It is very cruisy. You get the moderate snap of the plate. It is also quite stable and would suggest it for wide footed runners. I regret selling my Zoom Fly 5 mainly because I took it to race a half marathon and it performed ok. The weight really dragged me in the last 2-3 miles of the race also it has a 41mm stack height at the heel which would be considered illegal. I’m a not elite runner but I’d like to simulate racing conditions including legal limits on the shoes. I think I will buy this shoe again just for training use only.

  • @Yulfi
    @Yulfi Рік тому +3

    I agree with what you said about stability being the goal of many of the most recent shoes; it’s important, and they’re realizing that. The lack of stability is the only thing I didn’t like about the Adidas Adios Pro 2.

    Great review, I agree these zoom fly 5 are a great run. I've done 503 km's in mine and they are still in really good condition, this has blown me away as I was an asics runner for years, I would of been lucky to get 300 km's out of a pair of asics before my toes would go through and the tread gone.

    Really good video Andy. I agree on the question of weight. I love the Nike invincible run for easy day’s. On my second pair after 530 miles on the first. Yes they are heavy but I don’t really notice it. Wore the adidas Takumi Sen 8 today for 1K reps and yes they are lighter and more nimble but the invincibles don’t feel like bricks in comparison. It might be worth reviewers possibly doing initial runs without knowing the weight which sometimes effects the perception of the shoe. Don’t know if that will be possible these days though.

    Exactly , weight is not everything !
    This year I had a chance to ran in four different top of the line high cushioning shoes and the best for me was the Adidas Ultraboost 22.
    It was easily the heaviest but was always a huge pleasure to run using it. Extremely stable, comfortable and with enough consistent energy return to make me keep running for long time ...
    The Zoomfly 5 this year is like Adidas Adizero Boston 10 was in 2021 ... too much drama but in the end it was a fantastic "new" shoe.

Now, I love it and can't seem to want to use my other sneakers in the rotation. I have flat feet so the out sole began to quickly wore out after three 5k runs. But again, I love how comfortable my runs feel. Nike, please make the outsole more durable like asics ahar +rubber. Btw, thank you for this review.

    Interesting reading the comments here that most agree with you. If you look at the comments on reviews of this shoe which are less positive they mostly agree with that view too. Maybe these days we put too much emphasis on a shoe not ourselves. For instance the same shoe I ran 41 mins for 10K in on Sunday I ran 37 in back in January so clearly I just need to change my shoes as they no longer "work" :) You must be fit to do 22 miles at 6:30s in anything plus those interval sessions at a good speed. I think a lot of runners will look at a shoe like the Zoom Fly 5 and think do I need this or maybe one of the other "Tempo" type shoes like the Speed 3, Boston 11, Tempo NEXT%, Hyperion Tempo etc etc and certainly when I tested the Zoom Fly 5 vs Speed 3 was little in it save for the fact that the Speed 3 is 100g lighter in our size and certainly very noticeable uphill. So it would be a tough sell to go for the ZF5 with that sort of choice. If you only had one of these "tempo" then yeah you are going to be able to get out and get on with your training just fine and still have something "better" for race day if you so wished.

    • @TheFODRunner
      @TheFODRunner  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah it really does divide opinion… I think it also depends what you’re training for too… it’s not particularly a shoe I’d consider if I was in a speed block… but they’re absolutely ideal for a marathon training block when you’re just logging longer miles 👌

    I've been running this zf5 for about 40km and am quite satisfied with the features this shoe offered which balanced in all aspects. My current weight is 79kg, newbies in running, neutral foot, owned peg39 and react infinity fk2. For me its 80% stable as react infinity fk2, got propulsion, my legs have less downtime for recovery, I would say similar effect as I'm running on react fk2. The reason I'm choosing this is due to the wider base, as myself as a newbie in running still in learning to run properly, tend to make a mistake especially in running form, would like to try plated shoe too. Oh yeah...the weight for all my shoes are in size uk 8.5 (zf5 278g), (peg39 270g), (react 293g) and (ub dna 4.0 325g). As for now I'm totally happy with my choice. I would go to vaporfly or alphafly in future, but as for now my legs are unable to wield those shoes yet 🤣. Keep running with less or zero injury guys!

    I’m finding after getting the Tempest into my large rotation that lightness and cushioning alone is not always that beneficial. Morning sir, really interesting review, it’s certainly got me thinking as I immediately dismissed this one when I saw it launch based on the spec. Perhaps you are the wrong person to ask here, but how do you think this compares to the tempo next%? I know you hated that shoe, but I have to admit, I absolutely love it. I’ve run up to 50km in it and happily use it for any tempo work or moderate LRs, or LRs where I incorporate MP work. It’s been my go to for anything and everything to accommodate a range of paces and distances and leave me feeling fresh afterwards. It feels like that’s where Nike are heading with the Zoom Fly 5 based on your review, so just wondered how you felt the two shoes stack up vs one another? trends come and trends go. As i see it producing and selling running shoes is first of all a business to make money. The past shows, that changing the product is more important than the quality. As a result, some of my best shoes are between 3 and 7 years old.
    For me personally, the 2022 shoe releases are not what i am looking for. After the first 7 months of the year i still have not bought a single 2022 release. At the moment i have 11 shoes on my list and i will probably buy 3 or 4 of them. The rest will stay there til the 2023 releases are out before i decide what to do.
    The zoom fly 5 is not on the list for 3 reasons: the weight, the plate and the price.
    I want shoes without a plate at a reasonable price with some ground feel, and those shoes are not in the 2022 trend.....yes i make an exception once in a while, but for the most part, those 3 aspects make or break a deal for me

    I disagree that the ZF 5's feel similar to either the Vapors or Alphas. Heavy and clunky and even sound loud on pavement! The uppers are teriible with very poor ventilation and I would not recommend using the 5's on a warm day. While Nike perfected the fit especially for broader feet with the Tempos, the 5's are far from that. From a run perspective, they strain your feet on longer runs and are Ok up to the 10k mark. I"ll be using mine for shorter distances and definitely not buy another pair. The are rightfully Misunderstood!

    Some strange comments being posted here you seem to have attracted the niche sub group of slow runners where the heavier weight of shoe the better .. good luck with that. Clearly rather than call a brick a brick an invented “misunderstood” headline is used, there are many reviews out there but there has been no misunderstanding. This shoe is heavy and other brands offer the same performance for less weight. Weight on a shoe is never good,, it’s like a bike rider saying they want a heavier bike bike for the mountain stages. Even if you plod around at a slow pace a heavy shoe will harm your technique and increase fatigue. Surely as someone who has suffered with injuries you must realise that running in a shoe that increases fatigue increases your risk of injury.

    • @TheFODRunner
      @TheFODRunner  2 роки тому +1

      Two sides to the coin,.. there’s your side which is very valid indeed and I totally respect that… the other side is that the efficiency of the shoe for me is almost unrivalled, it’s not generating fatigue at all, unlike the alphafly v2 did, that generates massive fatigue for me. Whereas this I can cruise along very fast at a nice low HR feeling effortless. So the misunderstood is where people are jumping to conclusions based on “its a heavy shoe so it’s terrible”, when infact it’s actually quite the opposite

      @ramore1000 2 роки тому

      @@TheFODRunner if there is only one shoe brand shoe choice, then you are correct. But heavy should never be a choice when other brands offer the same but in lighter packages. However individual feel is important if it works for you great. I suspect your training level now is such that your fitness is the thing that gives you the great feeling not the shoe.

      Wow. Should have your own channel then mate if you bloody know everything. Andy just related his own experience in his usual transparent manner. Weight has got f'all to do with how good a shoe feels or performs unless you are a sponsored and proper runner. Athletes were still winning marathons and races 10 years ago in so-called heavy shoes and far less technology, so not sure how weight is the only nemesis. Usually weightier shoes "disappear" if they work like a dream. It's entirely subjective. And your heavy-technique-fatigue hypothesis is already shredded because Andy had the experience that he had with a "heavier" shoe. I will add that if you run at a particular cadence that a heavier shoe can still maintain, then that extra weight trains you for absolutely flying in a lighter model, which I've done myself and works like a bomb. The Fly 5 aint a raceday shoe and was never touted as such in any universe. Carry on Andy, really enjoy your honest, personal and objective reviews mate.
