How's it going for you? Are you still into music production?
I started getting serious about making music in 2020. And I could confidently say that I learned how to make my own music while still having much to learn. I saw this video to find things that are not true about the learning process and try to clarify some misunderstandings and stuff. But this is pretty much how everything happened for me, except for a few things.
I only own FL Studio Trial version, I don't have studio monitors, I don't know anything about music theory, and I don't have any midi controllers. I've been using FL Studio trial version for about 3 years, and I can say that pretty much know my way around a few things. But everything about the learning process, struggles, and issues are very accurate.
For any aspiring producers out there, this video is highly recommended to get started.
Always cool to hear about peoples journeys. Thank you!
in your experience have you had any issues or problems with the trial version of fl?
Man, you could crack full version. Just saying
@@deltamikel9097 I dont respect people who crack stuff, if you want the full version just buy it, if you cant afford it dont buy it, its like stealing from a store..
@@ChirpFPV agreed.
I love how you encourage everyone who wants to get into music, to do so! But I also love how honest and realistic you are! It is a path that requires work and dedication, not just daydreaming and hoping for success. But that doesn't mean you can't be hopeful for your dreams and goals! Thank you for the video! ^^
amazing beginner video, love it that you quickly explained the WHY behind certain purchasing decisions vs just telling us to do it bc it's what everyone else is doing.
Glad this was helpful to you man, Hoping my future videos provide the same value(:
I just discovered your channel, feels like you could help a beginner like me, great work man! APPRECIATED!!!
also to anyone who was struggling on the same thing i was (recognizing notes and keys so that you could actually replicate songs for remixes or put the melodies you have in your head into an actual song), you should try making some remixes of songs with a lot of midi files around and practicing the notes, it was and still is the greatest obstacle in getting into this hobby for me.
Great tip!
Bro love it how you stopped to talk about the effort you put into your work like buying the lens, camera, not wasting time etc. That dedication goes such a long way. And yes time is precious.

I've been writing songs since as long as I can remember but I struggle with actually producing the music because I have no knowledge of music production at all. I've always been scared of learning how to produce music but your video makes me kind of excited. I think I would like to actually start learning, hopefully I can afford all these equiptments soon. Thank you!
Thank you! This is super helpful. I'm a complete beginner and music production has been on my mind for a while now. This cleared all my doubts. Thank you!

Excellent presentation, thank you.
And yes, you CAN record and master through headphones.
I've been recording since 1961, I've met a few people who actually know what they're doing and have the ability to explain it to others.
You are one of those people.
Instant tip from an old timer --- run your 'master' through the nastiest speakers you can find, like 3 dollar intercom speakers.
If your mix sounds good through those AND your studio monitors, you're golden.
Most top pros do that, few will actually ADMIT it.
Thanks again,
Bill P.
Your authenticity and down to earth approach is a great aspect of your content. Keep up the great work man!

I'm late to the party, but this video helped me make some decisions. I was so talented with music in high school, and college. Eight years later I'm trying to refresh my brain on everything I knew, and learn how to produce EDM music with that knowledge. It's something I've always been passionate about. Thanks for the tips, and let's hope this journey paves out well.
Best of luck!!

You got this bro!
Thank you for this excellent video. I'm in and out. Got exactly what I needed.
Hey man!!
I am a singer-songwriter and i wanted to get into making music but did not have the clarity and honestly was a little overwhelmed as well...plus i have tried to start learning music production in the past too but just didn't start(still kicking myself for that) so, that plays a part as well..but i must tell you that i am glad that i found your video here now...have started and this time it seems a little different and clear plus nothing is a better motivator than knowing that this will enable you to release your music in the future. So thank you very much and keep making such videos.
I have had my studio tore down for 8 years while working more on live instrumentation skills and singing. Finally pulling the trigger on setting back up and modernizing everything and this video was helpful! I’ve always used cubase and nuendo from school to interning in pro studio to home use so probably staying that route. Have you used them and are the still relevant? Id add an audio interface for anyone working on live instruments or vocals too!
My software of choice is FL Studio, which I understand well enough. Now I just gotta make the music happen, lol.
its the best for me
So glad your video came up in my search. I’ve watched others, but you’ve done a great job at saying everything needed simple to the point. I got tired of watching other videos because there’s so much unnecessary rambling. Thank you for not doing that lol. You just made me want to continue learning how to produce my music even more.
Aye thank you for the kind words. Stoked I could help you. Hopefully my other beginner video can also help you out - ua-cam.com/video/TvYxLNhacmo/v-deo.html
so inspired with this!
"FL studio is like the apple product of DAW's"

hahah great catch.
Some say that M40x is better than M50x.
As for more headphones, good ones to recommend are Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro, Sennheiser HD280 Pro and Sony MDR-7506
A midi controller isn't mandatory if a person isn't comfortable with keyboards (although it's better to learn how to play and creativity reaches one easier than just computer keyboard and piano roll in DAW)
A great video though!
Thanks a bunch my friend! Exactly what I needed! I'm a writer/poet by nature, but have come across hip-house music with the tone to match my content and wanted to create something in that arena. I doubt there'll be any success here for a while, but I'm chasing that euphoria of completing a song that I'm truly happy with. Following your advice to start with! Thanks again!
This was so helpful, thank you so much
Hey man thank you for the video, this is really helpful. Good vibes, thanks again and I hope all is well on your end. Cheers!
EDIT: You know I have one question, which is, what's the difference between a MIDI controller like the ones you talked about and a DJ controller like the Pioneer DJ DDJ200? I am looking to just get started, completely new -- I'm not sure what I want but I know I want to have the option to mix music live, and also make my own music. Should I consider getting both an AKAI mini and a dj controller? What's the difference? Thank you again for your hard work on this vid
why did the video just cut off

For those who wanna go full analog, it's still recommended you start on a daw. Chances are, you don't have $100,000-$1,000,000 to drop on a studio as a beginner.
Yeah , Then when you start making money and get hardware you’ll know the basics and you’ll have the funs to get the best for your need.
@@socialrejectxxxkami9965 Not to mention Daws do everything an analog studio can but better. The only advantage analog has is that it looks cool and has slightly better workflow
id say ableton is the best daw. alot of my fav edm producers and djs always mention ableton at some point if they are podcasting or talking about music in general, id say ableton is like the Pioneer DJ of daw software, its kind of the unspoken industry strandard imo
DAW was mentioned 11 times after you said to tell you how many times!
Thank you for all this info, it was perfect for extremely newbie to understand and not feel overwhelmed at all!

its kinda interesting, i am trying to start producing music for years but there are a lot of things keeping me away from that "start" u know, gaming, being lazy, work and and and.... but after your video i feel like i am already a part of it. Could you make a video breaking down some DAWs (i.e: their components and what makes them unique)? I'd like to see a comparison video, so I know in a little more detail what I'm getting when I download one.
Fl studio has an attractive interface and I think it’s the easiest for beginners, I had ableton for a few weeks and I did more and understood more with Fl in one day than those few weeks in ableton!
Just my recommendation it still has its cons but I love the workflow
Sure can man
Very helpful, thanks
I've beena musician my entire life but always used a tascam 4track recorder. had no idea about DAWs or how to use a PC with my music making. Thanks for the jumping off points. Trying to record everything live yourself with a 4 track is very difficult
Word I just started to notice that I dont need music theory knowledge but.....there is a formula to making a good song.
Your music theory will come over time! Use all the tools you can to learn your program and hardware for now(:
This industry is so flooded with men, no hate because I am a huge fan of many of them and their music. I'm currently majoring in digital media art and so I have to learn various programs for it. I've been a performer all my life as well and sing. Taught myself the basics on the ukulele, got piano lessons when I was younger. I've always wanted to explore a little in music, EDM specifically, but its a bit discouraging that there are barely any women to look up to in the space. I personally feel like I have great taste in EDM and could get the hang of creating stuff.
There was an interesting interview with Diplo where he said he wishes there were more female artists and wants to sign some/ is always on the look out for new acts but there are hardly any women interested in producing EDM/trying to get signed (his words)
So yes the space is mostly men.. but the majority of people even interested in producing EDM seem to be men haha.
REZZ, Alison wonderland, whipped cream, Lucy, and Cray (just to name a few) are all very talented female producers that aspiring artists can look up too
@@SoundConstraints Yeah I don’t deny that, I think it’s the technological aspect and how anything to do with that was just completely dominated by men since the beginning lol🙌🏻. I didn’t know Diplo was looking for that and that’s awesome he is. And yea I also love Alison Wonderland! Its a small start but it’s a start! Maybe on my break between semesters I’ll play around with GarageBand or something and see where it goes haha
This was great. Thanks!
