To show folks back home how England f****g does it' ....& these 2 guys would come onstage with a camera & recording equipment & the audience would go NUTS....But decades later I read that the equipment wasn't even plugged into anything....lol

This is just an example of how superior analog recordings are to digital! Raw, unprocessed, and so dynamic! You can listen to this stuff cranked up for hours with no ear fatigue! These are an absolute gem to listen to through a good set of earphones! These old recordings just show how incredible Ed’s tone was back then!

Mike Anthony really got screwed in the mixes on the official VH WB releases. These demos really highlight what a great rock bass player he is. His tone never sounded this good on the official records.
As well as Mike’s tone here being better than on the official records I think that Mike’s bass was never quite loud enough on the early official Warner’s albums. The reason for this could have been the production team were so focused on ED’S guitar sound….TED Templeman (producer) said years later - ‘When I first heard Ed’s guitar playing and sound I just thought it was the most incredible thing I had ever heard in my life so I just blew it up all over the sound map’ In this process possibly MIKEY’S bass may have been slightly overshadowed or overlooked.What ED himself said was -‘What I liked about Ted as a producer was he wasn’t one of these guys who would put his same stamp on different bands and artists. He would bring out the individuality of each band and artist by facilitating them to do their own thing. This was also true about engineer DONN LANDEE…I read recently that when VH 1 was first created in 1977 some of the actual band were at first dissatisfied with it because they had imagined it turning out sounding like the first Montrose album (which Ted and Donn had also worked on)…but that’s not what Ted and Donn did. They didn’t make the band sound like someone else already.. They made them sound like THEMSELVES…By contrast the earlier Gene Simmons demos tried to make Ed’s guitars sound like Kiss’ Love Gun album. Which didn’t work as well despite Gene’s good intentions…When VH switched to working with Ted and Donn in 1977 sound wise it was like Clint Eastwood switching from working on TVs RAWHIDE to working on those epic Italian Western MOVIES like THE GOOD, THE BAD & THE UGLY…Ted and Donn captured VHS live sound BRILLIANTLY.

@@DouglasEdwards-ql1fg I think you've hit the nail on the head Doug......In 1977 when VH 1 was being recorded at Sunset Sound Mike was playing Fender Precision type basses which have more BOTTOM end....At the same Time Geddy Lee on Hemispheres was playing Rickenbackers which had much more TWANG treble on the TOP end. If the producer & engineer put Mike's Fender thru soundboard or amp settings that were like Geddys it could have precisely the limiting effect you are describing.Especially behind Eddie's guitar.....When I heard VH LIVE in the UK in 1979 I noticed Mike's bass had much MORE POWER & BOTTOM End than on the albums...Also live Alex's DRUMS were much more powerful than on the studio recordings...Although they got Ed's guitar sound PERFECT I dont believe Ted & Donn got Mike's bass right until the For Unlawful Carkal Knowledge album in 1991.
I totally agree. As awesome as all the VH albums were. Think how much better they would have been with some bottom end. A friend of mine has a bootleg copy of the first album with the bass heavy in the mix and no vocals. It’s awesome!

I see Nashville 81 on that list. That was the Municipal Auditorium. I was at the show. Did they video that show ? That was in support of Fair Warning, my favorite VH album. I saw every show at Nashville including 78 with Sabbath. In fact, saw them twice in one week with the reschedule for Sabbath. I only saw them once with Hagar and that was in the outdoor theater at Nashville.
They remastered so much material sometime in the early 2000's (2005-6 maybe) and a lot of it was supposed to be on a planned boxset that had outtakes/demos. one of the guys who worked on the project told me that at one point they had around 9 cd's worth of outtakes alone unfortunately the project was shelved.
I got a couple of AB soundboard recordings, Panama and On Fire if you want me to send them over. Not sure if they're ones from the videos you uploaded last week, I haven't watched them yet.

I’ll never understand why they put up with that when they clearly could have gotten anyone they wanted. Must’ve been a really solid friend to the brothers.

Alright Capital Center March 25, 1984, VHS format. Where is it? The CC has their own in house video recording. See the Diver Down tour filmed there in 1982. Someone has the footage somewhere. Release it please. The Fair Warning tour played at the CC also. No doubt that was filmed too. Look at the paperwork at the 4:27 mark. Also, that paper mentions July 28, 1981, VHS format. That was the Fair Warning tour. Where did the play that night? The Capital Center. They play there the next night also. Where are them shows?

He said other venues have their own in house filming also. He didn't mention which venues. So yes, there are other tours that were filmed. WACF and FW tours both played the Capital Center. I believe FW played two nights in a row. I saw the 1984 tour 3 times and it wasn't my favorite tour. I saw Diver Down tour three time also. I saw the 1979 tour and the Fair Warning tour and FW is the best show I saw by them.
A lot of the Cap Center video was unfortunately lost to time. I know the guy who was in charge of the video department. He told me they were suppose to have time to go and remove all video, etc. before they demolished the rest of the building. When they showed up the demolition had already started and they weren't allowed in. Not only concert footage but Caps and Bullets footage as well. He says he doesn't know how much of it got out, but a lot is now buried. :(
