    This is one of the single most badass things I've ever seen. Straight shaving your own head...damn.

      FallaciousScotsman It probably looks more impressive than what it actually is. With practice anyone could learn how to do it.

    Thanks for this video, I just did my first head shave today with my straight razor and even though I nicked myself at first when trying to position the blade on the forehead, the rest of it went very well. I only shaved against the grain for the top and with the grain for everything else. I finished it off against the grain with a disposable but still fantastic shave. Thanks again as this helped me get certain angles just right.

      Hi Andre,
      Glad to hear the video helped you out with your shave. The more you do it, the easier it becomes.

    Been shaving my head with a straight edge razor daily for well over 40 years. The razor is not a disposable one either. I also use it on my face. It's the only way to go.

      @ShaveWithThomas  Рік тому

      Wow, that's impressive. I'm definitely way too lazy to shave my head every day. How many straight razors do you have? I feel like straight razors are a little bit safer than the feather razors. I can sort of sense when to back off before nicking myself, but with feather razors I've already nicked myself.

    I don't use mirrors at all. I use my fingers to to feel where I need to go. At the end I see the results and if I need to clean up some parts.

      My hat is off to you sir. That definitely is a level that I have not reached. I can shave back that there without the mirror I just end up missing a bunch of spots.

      One thing I like about straight razors is that they're a little bit more forgiving.

    I tried shaving my head with my straight today. I ended up George Costanza-ing myself, gave up and finished with a disposable. First time ive shaved my head.

  • @zenjon7892
    @zenjon7892 9 років тому +1

    I do this too, it's not as hard as it looks and after a while, you can do it by touch rather than using a mirror, but i always seem to whack the skin behind my ears. But I really like the length that it cuts my hair at, I find it easier to shave my head than my face with a straight and it is the most hardcore wayto shave your head, ever!

    • @ShaveWithThomas
      @ShaveWithThomas  9 років тому

      Zen Jon Maybe one of these days I'll get to the point where I can stop using a mirror. I also find shaving behind the ears to be pretty tricky. I like using it because it doesn't clog up with hair like all the cartridge razors do. I also like not having to use clippers to trim the hair down before hand.
      I think there might be one more way that is slightly more hardcore. I saw a video of a guy shaving with obsidian. I think that probably takes the cake when it comes to hardcore if someone ever shaved their head with it. Also, I heard that there are countries where people shave with just a DE blade, without the handle, that seems like a pretty rough way to shave as well.

    • @zenjon7892
      @zenjon7892 9 років тому +1

      BuyStraightRazors.co
      Ya...obsidian is more hardcore, the DE blade solo just sounds like an ambulance ride. When you shave next, try closing your eyes-as long as you are no where near your ears! It helped me to get a feel for the blade, I found that two reflections is too confusing for my optic nerves and leads to vertigo. Ya know, come to think of it, I think I have a chunk of flint in the fron yard....

    • @ShaveWithThomas
      @ShaveWithThomas  9 років тому

      Zen Jon The funny thing is I actually got used to looking in the two mirrors and maneuvering the razor that way. I'll definitely have to start try to close my eyes little by little.

    I have two long movable mirrors left and right of the central ...
    I see 360 °
    behind your head i see good
    + The difficult part on the left side is solved
    advice to have two mirrors on either side to you too ..

    i have a straight razor and i can do this with a shavette but i cant get my sr sharp enough. any tips

    • @ShaveWithThomas
      @ShaveWithThomas  2 роки тому

      Maybe pay someone else to hone it? This will help you determine if it's your technique or if the blade was dull or not honed properly.

  • @ShaveWithThomas
    @ShaveWithThomas  11 років тому

    Yes, I got luck on that one. If I had been shaving with my shavette I probably would have cut myself. I find the straight razor is a little bit more forgiving and I feel like I have a little more control with it.

    How long does the blade last?

    • @ShaveWithThomas
      @ShaveWithThomas  2 роки тому

      The blade itself can last as long as your alive, provided you don't damage it. You do have to hone them or pay someone else to hone them periodically.

  • @MrMamklpx
    @MrMamklpx 9 років тому +1

    It sucks but I always cut myself, I use the old school razors after using the clippers to get as much off as possible and it does the trick as well. THanks for the video.

      ***** Do you think you are going too fast? Usually, when I nick myself I'm trying to rush and get a little careless.

  • @fishinjunky

    I’ve done this a few times. Despite getting BBS on my face every time, I can’t get nearly as close on my head with a straight. ATG is nearly impossible with a straight head shave. DE is much more manageable. But a good disposable type like a Gillette is simply the easiest way to get BBS on the head. Nice job tho.

    • @ShaveWithThomas
      @ShaveWithThomas  3 роки тому

      I definitely agree with you. Cartridge razors are definitely much more user friendly when shaving your head. I actually really like doing ATG on the back of my head, but it's definitely taken a lot of practice to be able to do it and it's not for the faint of heart. I have a crease un the back of my head that is hard to shave WTG. A lot of it just ends up being muscle memory you develop over time. The more you shave the more comfortable you become and willing to try different things.

    No matter how hard I try I just can't shave my head with a straight. I know the razor is good and sharp, but it just won't go through my thick stubble without a lot of effort. But the face is always a nice shave.

    • @ShaveWithThomas
      @ShaveWithThomas  10 років тому +1

      hmmm, where are you trying to shave first? You might want to try going from the side of your head down. That's probably the flattest part of your head and will be the easiest part for you to get the angle right on it.
      Do you remember if you had the same problem when you were first starting out learning how to shave your face? I remember when I was first learning how to shave my face with a straight razor I had the experience where I found it hard to shave my chin and mustache area because the stubble was too thick. As I got more experience eventually I was able to do it, you might be experiencing something similar with your head.
      If you can shave your sideburns on your face with no problem you might want to just try to shave higher and higher with your side burns. Eventually you will be well above your ears and you'll be shaving that part of your head. Once you have that part down you'll be able to learn to shave the other parts of your head.

  • @ShaveWithThomas
    @ShaveWithThomas  11 років тому

    It's either that or I'm crazy... ;) It's like shaving your face once you get enough experience.

    • @ShaveWithThomas
      @ShaveWithThomas  9 років тому +1

    • @brunnjon
      @brunnjon 9 років тому +1

      Shaving does not actually cause hair to grow in thicker. It may appear so, but the ends of the hair become blunted and seem to thicken.
