I'm beginning to think that camo clothing of any pattern should be lighter on the belly, shins and under the arms, and darker on the shoulders and thighs. No matter the pattern, when you move in a crouch it's the shadow and silhouette that most betray you.
***** You would think there would be more disruptive countershading experiments in camouflage patterns. Nature certainly seems to think it's an important principle.
I am really grateful for the videos. I am a bow hunter and I use Mossy Oak and Sitka. I have always used different patterns for different times of year (I hunt in Wisconsin), however I am looking at a couple of other variables now due to your videos -- the time of day, sunlight vs. clouds, contrast in the camouflage, and humidity. I do not use paint, I use face-masks, due to scent of paint. However, I cannot see the contrast in your eyes. I will take photos of my camo with trail cams and review later. I feel that the biggest factor in staying "hidden" is sunlight. Sunlight is the ultimate light to judge any shade or color and I like it when you have sunlight in the videos. There are a lot of theories and philosophies around camouflage, but I will tell you one thing. When I am sitting in a tree stand bow hunting, I can look out all day and a deer sometimes can sneak within 20 feet of me with brown and white fur. Silence can be the ultimate camouflage
Amazing how well that does up close! The only places you were easy to spot were either total mismatch to the surroundings, or when the camo washed out at distance. Another good hunting pattern for fall is Nat gear, the Army actually tested it before adopting UCP and results in several environments were similar to Multicam( read as slightly better or slightly worse).
You blend well with the environment even when in motion. This pattern is my first choice of all those I've seen so far. Woodland and chocolate chip desert tie for second. Coyote brown comes in fourth. Those are what I've viewed.
I didn’t stand a chance! Only once could I confidently picked you out. Two other times I thought it was you and zoomed in only to conclude you were a rock or logs. And When you were walking in between the green leafs my eyes were screwing with me. This is the best I’ve seen so far.

I didn't make fun of Hunting Camo but at the same time, I thought the patterns offered hunters are far too specific for any to be used in all other environments.such as tree tops, barks, dry brush etc. At the time I couldn't imagine using that pattern above for concealment despite being in a woodland environment that doesn't have the very same type of vegetation. However, as we see here, specific Mimic Pattern blurs as distance increases thus becomes a Disruptive Pattern that the military generally uses.

+kurt hulse Light infantry is often called "hunters" for a reason. Guess where they have their roots? In late 18th/early 19th century light infantry units often comprised of huntsmen and foresters, and who faught in a completely different manner than regular line units, relying on the use of terrain and camouflage, the element of surprise and even precision shots, and were often tasked with disrupting enemy coommunication and supply lines. (Conventinal infantry tactics at that time focused on manoevering bodys of troops to mass firepower.) For example Germany: mechanized infantry is "Panzergrenadiere", literally "armoured grenadiers". But any other infantry are huntsmen. Either just "Jäger" - "hunters", or specialised hunters - mountain troops are "Gebirgsjäger" - "mountain hunters" and paratroopers are "Fallschirmjäger" - "parachute hunters". Swedish rangers are deployed in the arméns jägarbataljon - "tha army's hunter battailon", and Danmark calls a branch of their special forces "Jægerkorpset" - hunter corps. Also, your very own american Rangers should have have similar roots.
They use actual pictures of vegetation during certain season in specific regions. Woodland patterns are meant to work good enough year round in multiple environments while being low cost to produce.
Think of it like this: hunters can be a lot more picky with where they hide, against whom, how long, etc. etc. Soldiers don't really have the comfort of choosing where they get deployed, they can't just sit in one place of their choice however long they please, and they will probably get shot at if they get found out. So... soldiers need to have more jack-of-all-trades kind of camo, at least for the given general environment. Hunters can use a camo pattern for the specific kind of forest they want to hunt in, or even go as far as using a camo to conceal them against a particular species of tree.

You guys do realize these types of hunter's camo (mainly Realtree) was evaluated by DOD back in the early '80s as a possible successor/alternative to the woodland and/or transitional camo patterns of the time? Somewhere in my stack of old mags (SOF & the like) I have the articles on it. The stuff is effective as hell even out here around Lubbock most of the year. No idea why Uncle Sam let it go.

in a military application it would be useful against green troops, but any seasoned soldier would be able to pick you out in the woods, but for a commercial pattern it does well in north american woods, the reason I could pick you out, was too much dark green in the pattern, it would be more useful near evergreen trees and dence shrubs, and thickets, but if that is all you have, then there are always ways to adapt it for concealment with ghillie, or small branches attached to it for much better blending and full concealment. thanks Brent! I enjoy all your como videos, they are very useful.
I've been using Mossy Oak for many years. It is great stuff, as you just showed here. I like my different militaria camo clothing, but if I need something for my home area its gonna be Mossy Oak.
I think this is the best I've seen so far! Just curious, if you're bugging out, or patrolling or reconing or whatever, how much movement would you actually do during daylight hours and how much by night. What considerations need to be made in that regard?
I've seen more than a few of you effectiveness vids and I'm really impressed with the mossy oak. Just for comparison could you do one with regular clothes in an earth tone? Would love to see the difference...great vid as usual. Thanks
Comparing the new commercial patterns i.e., Obsession, Realtree Max 1, Fusion, etc. don't they totally blow any military pattern out of the water as far as effectiveness? Is there a military pattern you like best for Fall woodland areas?
+Captainpegs07 6 color desert, desert tiger stripe, and A-TACS AU I find pretty effective in the woods during the fall/winter. I've got videos of those patterns too, you can find them on my channel.
+Captainpegs07 I tend to agree with you. Even after Brent started moving, I'd pause the video and that pattern seemed to reflect/blend the background very well.
+Brent0331 After watching many of your camo videos and reading your comments, you've been well worth my time. I agree with your statement, but I'd put the A-TAC AU above 6 color desert and desert tiger stripe for the United States areas. For the spring, summer, and early fall, I'd rate the A-TAC FG first, and CADPAT second, with real tree a better choice for certain local areas. That was a surprise for me, as I'm retired USAF and always considered Woodland BDUs the best, with the lighter green camos being too light, and would be too noticeable. But after watching your videos, I can see how in the shaded areas, the lighter colored camos blend in better and the BDUs ted to appear as one dark color. Now the CADPAT does the same in the shadows, but in the light in heavily wooded areas, it blends in well, and I'd imagine in fir trees, it'd do well. Thanks for all your detailed work, and I hope to see you do a video on the DANISH M/84 “PLETSLØRING” CAMOUFLAGE soon.
I've used it all and I'd put my money on the Russian Partizan camo. Green/brown/yellowish. Not only blends in, but breaks up. There are lots of good camo out there not too far off.
I’m a 25 years Army grunt a can normally pick you out on these video but damn it was hard. Great pattern for combat uniform. How do you like the SOCOM 16 rifle, I have two.
Brent0331, I concur with some of the suggestions listed below IRT the Mossy Oak Bottomland or the Original. These two are similar (one has more open pattern then the other) but they both use tan, brown and a little black. These are natural colors that both predators (yotes, fox, mountain lions and etc) and prey (deer) use in the woods. Again, just a thought and would be nice to see since no one else has a video on this.
I'd like to see you test out the effectiveness of ASAT (All Season All Terrain) It is a hunting camouflage pattern with three basic colors: tan, brown and black. I think it would be interesting to see how effective it is in a predominately green environment with the lack of green on the camo.
Mossy Oak Obsession was extremely effeictive it did a very good job of breaking up you're outline, throughout the video there were several times when even you were mobile I still had a hard time spotting you, I'm impressed. Awhile back when I watched you're realtree effectiveness video I read all the comments and this one person said the one of the advantages that hunting camouflage has over military is that you can find a pattern that is specific for you're area and I have to agree. Great job as usual keep up the good work and sometime this fall you should test the Waffen SS oakleaf b pattern and in the spring you should test WW II German splinter.
Thanks for your input brother, and I completely agree with the hunting pattern comment. I think I sported a version of the Splinter pattern in my last OPFOR video.
This pattern for me was easier to spot you when you were in areas where the natural light was its brightest and harder to spot you in the shadows and dense foliage.
good stuff Brent ! works well, but when your in the sun it does reflect somewhat, I imagine that has to do with the dyes mossy oak uses. still very good. thank you for the video !
Great video Brent! One concern I have is that all the commercial camo's,I have tested, fail the IR test, and show up bright, with no break up,on an IR camera? Commercial, patterns, and many military knock offs, could get a guy killed in a military environment?
I think any camouflage is going to be ineffective if it is casting a shadow on itself and creating a dark silhouette. I have found the lighter the color camo the less of a silhouette.
+Tyron Butcher Man that's some old school stuff right there, I haven't seen that advertised in awhile. I really don't do videos on hunting patterns that much. I have done a few because I already owned the whole suit.

Joe Black It just depends on the environment brother. Obviously I have a lot of pattern to choose from so I try to check out the area I'll be going to and wear the pattern I think will be most appropriate for the occasion.
Mossy oaks is amazing stuff. watching on my cell phone it looks like some Euro pattern. Any plans to test 3D leaf? I know Academy sells an overjacket and overpants for a fairly low price. Thought of getting a set to throw in a bug out bag.
excellent. thank you. i had to go back and try to find you after you moved. others are better at spotting you, i didnt first time around. can you do a winter.snow. rocky area?
Brent0331, can you please be the first person to do a series using the mossy oak bottomland. I have searched many sites to come up with zero results besides still pictures. I believe this pattern is versatile enough for all types of hunting setting. Again if you have the time do this it would be great. Semper Fi, GySgt T
Hay could u do this one again if it is possible as I find the lighting is right aboth ruther than at a angela as wheni seeu thereis allways a castover shadowsand you can't seehow goodthe Camo works inthe difront light . Sorry love the boss keep it up
If it wasn't for the black gun it kicks ass. Stationary you are invisible except the big black stick you are holding, one time you were back lit and silhouetted, but nothing can save that.
***** Does IR reducing technology survive multiple washes? It would seem like it should but I have no idea how IR reduction actually works. Is it a chemical coating of some type or not?
+Tony Titan Most of Florida actually has a rainy season lasting from May through September. The rest of the year it's dry and plants tend to die back or dry out, and light browns and tan based patterns would probably work better, just like Brent's videos showing the difference between winter/fall and spring and summer.
I just would like to theses hunting camouflage patterns cut in more tactical garments. Regardless of the actual patterns the combat BDUs are more useful as they are better designed to allow an individual to live out of his pockets for longer periods. Heck I'd by Mossy Oak or Real Tree if I could get it cut like an SAS windproof with matching combat trousers.
I need HELP for choosing a color on my 5.11 rush 24 back pack which is better Multi cam or OD green I live on the eastern shore I want something that is gonna be not see able at night and good at blending in. Thanks :) and it comes in sandstone

Very effective in this environment. Good stuff
This pattern for me was easier to spot you when you were in areas where the natural light was its brightest and harder to spot you in the shadows and dense foliage.
I would love to see you do an A.S.A.T. review and application!
good stuff Brent ! works well, but when your in the sun it does reflect somewhat, I imagine that has to do with the dyes mossy oak uses. still very good. thank you for the video !
Thanks for watching.
That is an awesome camo and a great video !
My girl and i love your chanel and the camo-test videos. :P
Great video Brent! One concern I have is that all the commercial camo's,I have tested, fail the IR test, and show up bright, with no break up,on an IR camera? Commercial, patterns, and many military knock offs, could get a guy killed in a military environment?
Hunting camo specifically tailored to blend with your environment is the way to go.
My go to pattern for spring turkey.
Cool video. To my surprise I think this might be one of the best camos! I can barely see you!
Great video
This round worked really good
yeah, pleasantly surprised.
This is impressive this camo is extremely good
Ive used Mossy Oak since it came out, I still like regular MO as it has more shadows in it.
I think any camouflage is going to be ineffective if it is casting a shadow on itself and creating a dark silhouette. I have found the lighter the color camo the less of a silhouette.
Hey Brent, you should do the retro Smokey Branch hunting camo in a woodland environment when summer rolls around.
+Tyron Butcher Man that's some old school stuff right there, I haven't seen that advertised in awhile. I really don't do videos on hunting patterns that much. I have done a few because I already owned the whole suit.
*Respect for good vids!*
*Your opinion is very interesting, Which one do you prefer from millitary/hunting camo?*
*1.SPRING/Summer - Green environment*
*2.Autamn*
Joe Black It just depends on the environment brother. Obviously I have a lot of pattern to choose from so I try to check out the area I'll be going to and wear the pattern I think will be most appropriate for the occasion.
Try doing a part 2 where u test it in the fall
It would be interesting to look at a hunting camouflage suit sewn with foliage. Thank for your videos.
Hey, man!! PLEASE make a video of Mossy Oak Break Up Country & Realtree Edge.
RealTree Advantage is the camo of choice for the Piney Woods Bat. ...!!!
Mossy oaks is amazing stuff. watching on my cell phone it looks like some Euro pattern.
Any plans to test 3D leaf? I know Academy sells an overjacket and overpants for a fairly low price. Thought of getting a set to throw in a bug out bag.
haven't really thought about doing that yet, I might in the future.
Would you ever do a video on different chillin suits effectiveness from other militaries, even mossy oak has one?
excellent. thank you. i had to go back and try to find you after you moved. others are better at spotting you, i didnt first time around. can you do a winter.snow. rocky area?
Thanks for putting in ur time on these Awesome videos . I know it an older video, but it's all good . Live Action
C U N Da Woods .. or Not !! Hahaha
Thanks man.
I just watched an play hide and seek for 20 minutes and I thoroughly enjoyed trying to find him
great video and test of the camo. :)
dseed Thanks
watch the other videos as well. great channel actually ;) subbed
Thanks man, welcome aboard.
whoa!
Wow. Very effective!
Really good stuff. If you turkey hunt, then you should get a leaf suit for this fall and do a vid on it. Great job as always bro.
Thanks brother.
This is probably the best camo so far in the entire series. How far are you from the camera in each scene?
+Master Squider it varies, I switch it up every scene.
Could we see a vid on how effective mossy oak eclipse camo is
Brent0331, can you please be the first person to do a series using the mossy oak bottomland. I have searched many sites to come up with zero results besides still pictures. I believe this pattern is versatile enough for all types of hunting setting. Again if you have the time do this it would be great. Semper Fi, GySgt T
Suprisingly effective!
I song think it seems significantly better than the OD we used to wear.
I live in NC beat camo for here been wearing it all my life
have you ever done a target acquisition video with multicam tropical?
+imying72 No, its just too expensive.
I got an email about a new camo called "Tropical multi cam".
Hope you review that one soon, as it may be great in Hawaii.
Probably won't, ever advertisement I've seen for the new MultiCam patterns has been ridiculously expensive.
Yeah it did look expensive, but also claimed IR masking camo integrated into the fabric. How does that work?
Hawaii Volcano Squad Reduces your IR signature while being viewed through IR intensifying optics, all U.S. Military issued utilities have this.
***** Does IR reducing technology survive multiple washes? It would seem like it should but I have no idea how IR reduction actually works. Is it a chemical coating of some type or not?
I'm not sure brother, I don't know too much about it. I'm sure someone will come along on here that knows the answer to your question.
Would one of the hunter-type patterns work best in climates in the southeast, such as Florida? It's summer-like for about 9 months a year
+Tony Titan Most of Florida actually has a rainy season lasting from May through September. The rest of the year it's dry and plants tend to die back or dry out, and light browns and tan based patterns would probably work better, just like Brent's videos showing the difference between winter/fall and spring and summer.
I like the chest rig which one is it?
Sgttdc Its made by Tac-Force, I just uploaded a video last week that talks about my gear. That chest rig is featured in it if you're interested.
How durable is this camo?
For affordable plain jane hunting camo this stuff isn't bad at all. Especially with proper concealment.
Gotta revisit with realtree timber and edge..mossyoak breakup
I remember seeing some combat footage from Ukraine, some guys were using this camo. Bet it was effective.
