Had to come back to this. Phil was so great at welcoming other performers into the Grateful Dead tent. The outpouring of love for Phil by so many of those artists in the last week has been inspirational and has convinced me that his greatest musical legacy may not actually be his time in the Grateful Dead but, what he did in the post -Jerry years. In setting out to go Further, he proved that the true power of the Grateful Dead is that it is eternal and infinite. Now He's Gone, and someday, we all will be too, but long after our time on this planet has ended, there will be people playing Grateful Dead music. Thank you Phil, for putting your arm around us all and leading us to places we never imagined....and goddamn if that Kimock slide guitar Wolfmans Brother doesn't sound just as fucking good 25 years later
RIP Phil Lesh. Really loved how Phil and Friends brought back some of the older or rarely played Grateful Dead numbers. The April 1999 shows at Warfield were smokin.
This might be my favorite post-jerry dead related show. Kimock, Trey AND Page. The dynamics between Page and Trey are intense. Harmonics crashing against your ears from all directions at once it’s incredible.

@@stephanlarsen8169 Are you asking who the other guitarist is? It's the guy Jerry Garcia called his favorite unknown guitar player -- Steve Kimock. The summer before these April Warfield shows, Kimock played with Phil and Bobby in The Other Ones. One of the early reviews of this show (it might have been on Nugs.net) mentions that the Viola jam got so intense that one of the roadies had to step away from it to smoke a cigarette. It was one of the first things I read about this run. At the time, I wasn’t even aware that these shows were even happening. An ex stopped by to help paint the bedroom of a house I had just moved into. She handed me a tape and said, “you might like this.” It was one of those “Wow!” moments. It was a great soundtrack to paint a room, and I’ll always remember the excitement I had while learning about & listening to this run. Fun to revisit every once in a while.
Yeah they do a fantastic job taking one another's phrasing into consideration when one steps back and the other into the light. They don't overstep or play longer than one another or sound as if they are ever trying to out play the other but the monster playing from each says to me how dialed in everyone on stage must have been to make this magic happen.
