How to Clean Camelbak Hydration Bladder
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 лис 2024
- Cheap, easy way to clean the bladder for a hydration pack. This video explains how to clean mold out of a Camelbak bladder and drinking tube. A little bleach, a wooden dowel and some pipe cleaners make cleaning a hydration pack easy. A Camelbak reservoir is shown in the video, but this cleaning method will clean the mold out of any hydration water pack. It also will clean out any residue from sports drinks if you use them in a bladder. Also shown are a few ways to dry a Camelbak hydration pack.
This video also shows how to easily remove the drink tube from the bladder without having to cut the drink tube. Once the mold is cleaned out of the bladder, simply store it in the freezer. Camelbak suggests that the bladder be stored in a freezer to prevent mold from growing inside the reservoir.

Bleach? This sounds dangerous?
How do you make sure every bit of the poisonous bleach is removed before reuse ?
I found the most helpful and unique part was how to remove the tube from the bladder. I couldn't find any other videos that discussed how to do that for tubes that weren't designed specifically for removal. That said, I still couldn't remove my tube. If I was interested in scrubbing the tube clean, I would therefore get the cleaning kit snake, which will fit into the drink-end of the tube without removing the valve. My bladder and tube are new, and I don't see evidence of mold, so I'm not worried about that at this point. I WAS concerned about the bladder and tube being completely dry, so here are a couple of additional steps I took: first, after wiping the inside of the bladder as you demonstrated, I used a hair dryer to blow into the bladder to ensure every nook was dry. Then I used a powered air pump with a conical nozzle attachment to blow air into the tube. I inserted the nozzle into the bite-end of the tube, taped it in place, and left it for a few minutes. When I came back, no more water drops in the tube. I plan to do a video about this someday since I didn't see anything like it. I still plan to put the bladder/tube in the freezer.
Thanks for commenting Arnie. That's a good idea on how to dry out the tube.
Love the idea of putting it in the freezer. Never thought about that idea to keep from emptying it each week.
WOW THANKS!! Ive been trying to fit my arm into the drink tube for 2 years.
You are welcome!
The best way I found was to empty it and then put it in the freezer as soon as I get home. Then I just leave it there. No problem confusing it with a rack of ribs or a chicken.
Ahhhhh lol...
Works well?
That’s a great idea. Doesn’t freezing certain plastics release the nasty chemicals?
Well who can afford a freezer and food to put in it
@@Str8Flossin
I worry it’ll also make the plastic brittle
Still helping 5 years later
And now 7 years later! 😊
I have this exact Camelbak reservoir. I left my tube/straw unattended to the last couple of times and got some buildup. I was thinking of ordering Camelbak's own cleaning kit but would rather try the dowel rod and pipe cleaner method. Thanks for the video!
You are welcome, it's my pleasure to help.
Had to microwave a bowl of water and let the mouthpiece set for 5 minutes and still had a heck of a time getting the mouthpiece off. Thank you
You are welcome.
Great info, thank you! I was able to restore my old camelback that I haven't used for a few years!
Glad it helped!
War-dore? LoL I love your accent! Thanx for the Video!
You are welcome! That's how we say it around the Philadelphia area. lol.
About to go to a summer camp and i haven’t used my camelback in a year. Thanks for the info.
You are welcome. Enjoy summer camp.
I wonder if extra strength vinegar is viable. Don't like the idea of cleaning with bleach
Dow rod & pipe cleaner is a great idea! Thanks!
Jackie, thanks for the compliment. Another tip, Camelbak has a great warranty. The one in this video recently started to leak at the cap. Camelbak sent me a replacement cap for free.
I agree! Camelbak is the best!
awesomesauce666 bruh
Thank you so much for sharing this video. It’s very very helpful.

How often do you think you'd have to clean it out? I've been using mine for awhile now but haven't noticed any mold or grossness on the inside. I usually just empty it out and let it dry after every trip.
This seems like a great deep clean, but I don't know if I have the patience to do it every time! :)
I clean mine when I see any mold in the drink tube. The reservoir doesn't get moldy because I am able to thoroughly dry it out. How often to clean it is a personal preference. I'm sure some people clean it after every use and others wait until it is very scary looking.
Succinct and informative. Much obliged.
Very helpful, I have this exact bladder pack, bought an old hiking pack and it was there, seemed unused but just in case
Thanks I really needed to clean mine
You are welcome. Black stuff that grows is kind of scary. lol!
Nice video. May I ask why not just put it in the freezer? I freeze mine with the unused water and never had an issue.
Thanks for commenting, you may has missed it, at the end of the video I mention that you can freeze it to prevent mold.
@@Know-How-Now I did see see that. I was just wondering if it still needs to be cleaned if it's always in the freezer?
Personally, if it visually looks clean I wouldn't clean it. I'm don't have any education credentials on how long it takes mold to grow, someone else who specializes in that area could give you a more accurate answer. Everyone has their own standards.
@@Know-How-Now thanks for the response and the informative video. So many people are quick to criticize people's methods yet never post any of their own.
I try my best to find the best methods and keep the videos short. I have over 200 videos and there are always some folks that thumbs down them or nit pick. Sometimes I do get something wrong. The ones who find an insignificant flaw and scream the loudest never have posted a video.
Mold grew in the mouth piece of mine, I kept getting sick for a while like some kind of food poisoning and couldn't figure out why until I looked at the mouth piece.
Really inconvienent you cant unscrew all of these parts when that design could be drafted easily. I got clever and taped my dish sprayer handle on my sink and hung the bag above feeding it some medium hotwater from the load nozzle after letting it sit in dishwater/apple cider vinegar for an hour. I used a potato bag clip to keep the mouth piece open and just let it clean itself out and cycle for 20 minutes.
Thank you so much! Answered our questions! Thanks for sharing
You are welcome, Audra! Have a great day.
How many times would you recommend rinsing water through the bladder and tube after letting the bleach and water mixture sit for 30 mins?
3-4 times should do it.
Thank you for the hot water idea!!!!!!
You are welcome!
Life saver!
It's always nice to hear the video has been helpful, thanks for commenting, Reginald.
Thank you for the video!
You are welcome, Charles! Have a great day.
Thank you!
You are welcome.
Thanks this was so helpful!!! 😊
You are welcome, Amy, it's my pleasure to help.
It's important to use oxigen bleach and avoid chloride bleach, as chloride bleach is very toxic, if not properly rinsed out.
Awesome....thanks for this coz last nyt i was figuring out how am i gonna clean the tube coz its very hard to pull it off the bladder tho...
🌷, very clear
Thanks for the compliment.
thank you that was very helpful🌊🌊🌊
It's my pleasure to help.
Thanks !!!
You're welcome!
Brilliant!
How do you clean the tube when the mouthpiece can’t be removed even when heating up the plastic?
My experience is that the first time removing the mouth piece is that I've had to give it a really hard tug to get it off. After that it comes off a little easier. I can't vouch for every bladder & tube, I suppose some companies could glue the mouth piece to the tube.
Not only did I just hit the absolute correct video for my water bag Babe on the 1st go but did not even think about someone to s*** she mentioned. Nice
So is camelbak trying to hire you?
And is Electronic Arts trying to hire you?
@@Know-How-Now i wish
freezer! problem solved
I would use white vinegar rather than BLEACH!
Hi bigtechno, thank you for commenting. I am going politely beg to differ with you, about the bleach destroying the bladder. I don't want to be controversial, however, I have carefully researched on how to safely clean a bladder. I have been cleaning mine this way for many years.
Camelbak's instructions published on the website say: Use hot water and 2 tablespoons of baking soda or bleach. Mix the solution inside your reservoir and hold it up above your head while you pinch the bite valve, allowing the bleached water to run through the tube.
Camelback has a lifetime guarantee on their bladders and will send you a free replacement (they have already sent one to me.. no questions asked, because the O ring leaked after 10 years of ownership). I don't think they have any interest in causing damage to their product.
Bleach ????
I suggest using vinegar to clean inside the bladder it works wonders and it is a natural disinfectant
No no no bleach!? No bueno
Public water treatment plants use chlorine... you are drinking it.
@@Know-How-Now Nope. I have a reverse osmosis filtration system
Yes, let's put a highly toxic chemical in the same place we drink from.
Ummm you are rinsing it out and it's already in your public water supply. If you really don't want any chemicals, you will throw this soft piece of plastic away and drink out of something else. My understanding is that the BPA free plastics have a similar make up and are just as bad for you. www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/expert-answers/bpa/faq-20058331
DONT USE THIS METHOD
Ishveer, I always like to learn how to do something better. Apparently, you have a strong opinion that this method is not a good one and you have a superior way. How do you clean yours?
@@Know-How-Now Damn. That's some sickass challenge there. 1 year later, crickets
Thank you!
