    My Dad took me to the Polo Grounds on April 13, 1962 to watch the first home game for the New York Metropolitans. And when Roger Craig threw the first pitch to Hobie Landrith, I became a Die-Hard Mets fan at 15 years old.. Now at 78, I am still a Die-Hard Mets fan. Exciting. Today is a great day to be a Mets fan!!!

    Huge congrats to Jose Quintana - perhaps the most under appreciated player on the team. Despite perception, he was actually really good all year except for a couple of bad starts. And he’s been impeccable down the stretch and so far in the playoffs. Ice in his veins.

    My first year as a diehard fan was ‘73. And we all know how that ended. This is the second most fun season of my life. For many reasons. This feels too magical to end in more disappointment. To you young fans, enjoy this. Embrace this. This is very rare and you may never see it’s like again. So many thanks to you, Ryan, for chronicling this Amazon’ season. Your dedication is much appreciated. I know ohtani will win the MVP , but there is no doubt who SHOULD win it. Francisco Lindor not only had a great season, GREAT season on the diamond, but without his leadership and continual clutch play this team was dead in the water and rudderless. This man epitomizes the true meaning and spirit of that award. No question Francisco Lindor is the true MVP. And I’m typing this through tears of joy and immense pride. Thank you Francisco and all of my Mets for this wonderful ride!!!!

      Chronicling. Great word. Love your post. LFGM. I’m happy too and haven’t ever felt this way about this team as well. They’re special and what gives them a great chance of winning is the fact that they’re underdogs in every series, which takes a lot of the pressure off bc the low expectations let them just relax and play like they have nothing to lose. No one thought they could even do what they’ve done thus far. So they’re already ahead of the game. Everything from here on out is a bonus. They’ve already given us a wonderful season and a WS win would just be the icing on the cake. 🎂
      You’re spot on about just soaking this all in while it’s here. I too have been a Mets fan for a very long time, since ‘86 when they had one of the best teams in mlb history. I got spoiled as a young boy thinking that was normal and would continue to happen every season like a Yankees dynasty or something. lol. That’s great you told the youngsters to just soak it in while it’s here bc this is a rare occurrence and we don’t know if and when we’ll see it again. LFGM
      Love Lindor but let’s also not forget Alonso with his heroics in the 9th inning against the Brewers where he single handedly saved their season with one swing of the bat. I love him and will be very sad if the Mets don’t find a way to keep him. He is worth the money, even if he commands $200mil, especially if he hits a few more bombs this post season. I think he has another big 50+ hr season coming up. He’s tied as my favorite Met, right up there with Lindor. I also love Nimmo’s attitude and hard work ethic, even though he had an off season with a lower average than his norm this year.

      Your Dad is watching his team. As a teen, a classmate and I went to Game 3 and 5 of the '69 World Series with $8 "standing room only" tickets. The place was rocking. Shea Stadium was shaking. A memory that can never be taken away!
      In 1986, a business trip had me in another city for Game 4 and 5. When I arrived home, my dad was watching Game 6. I put down my luggage, saw we were losing, and said to my Dad that I didn't think I could watch. At that exact moment, the ball went through Bill Buckner's legs. I thought I would have a heart attack! The Mets went on to win the World Series with Game 7. So, whether you are present at the stadium or not, you can't let go of life's unique memories. They live forever! So, hang on, and let's enjoy our Miracle Mets' ride.

    I give Cohen a lot of credit for learning quickly and shifting. He thought he could buy a championship but learned very quickly it doesn't really work that way. Plus, LUCK was on our side- Counsell said no thanks and went with the Cubs. And then we finally beat the Braves when it mattered most. This is why I think this team is destined.

    Good morning Ryan -just pinch me! When I was watching this team back in May, I would never have thought this be possible. Kudos to David Stearn and Carlos Mendez were managing the roster and making the right decisions on personnel. I never thought the Mets would get this far this year. as far as the ownership that you mentioned - would you ever see Fred Wilpon greeting fans outside the stadium on game day of a very important playoff?

    • @Mitchropolitan
      @Mitchropolitan 3 місяці тому +1

      Never was, never will be! I said & stand by when I never HATE 10+ year contracts. I said show Lindor the money knowing that he would be getting that kind of contractq. I did feel like this was Pete’s team & I was wrong. Lindor was worth every penny. When you sign these contracts you are paying for the 1st 5, sometimes 6 if you are really lucky you get 7 all star level years. This is the 4th yea for Lindor. I think whether he keeps hitting for a couple more years or not, he’s still going to be a leader. He has proven it already, with his clutch at bats & production & gold glove SS & his ability to make the team believe in him off the field & turn his season around. I have been critical of members of the team, critical of stearns, Mendoza & Hefner & many of their decisions. I’m confident that I have been the least critical of Lindor probably more than any other player besides the polar bear. I have been standing up for alonso until the last 2 months of the season where he was no longer defendable. I haven’t been a hater, but I haven’t been the biggest cheerleader for Lindor either, but I will defend him every chance I get going fwd & he’s not even close to 100%. He’s fighting through the pain to try to help as much as he can. He has earned my respect and he deserves to be treated as the MVP level player that he is.

      Mets exist because Giants and Dodgers left town to sunny California. Stole away, like thieves in the night. NY will be rabid against Dodgers, not so maniacal against Padres. Yankees are the last skeleton in Mets closet. There is NY's Armageddon. Movies will be made of that epic battle.

    The Wilpon’s did a couple of good things (Clover Park remodel in PSL, Tommy Tanous and the draft team, among others), it wasn’t all bad; but they were not capable of building a culture of competence, joy and inclusion to cut off the LOLMets jokes at the pass. Steve Cohen and David Stearns are relegating them to the past. Cohen even likes Bobby Bonilla Day …. and that’s despite being the one to write the checks! Let’s Gooooooooo!!

    Mets now actually get time to think & WAIT. Time to rest for a day or two, but 4 days is what killed the Mets in 2000 as they waited for the Yankees. There’s the Hank Aaron award for the best player in the league & that’s ohtani. MVP is lindor. VALUABLE because they aren’t even a winning team let alone in the playoffs without him. As a Leader, as a guy who carried the team on his shoulders. He’s the captain with a capital C!
    This is a team effort, though. Mets otherwise aren’t there without Vientos, clutch Mr. OMG Iglesias offensively, nimmo in the summer, Alonso even with an off year with no contract still 34 Homers & 90 RBIs & this bench & defense they have gotten.
    On the pitching side Manea, Quintana, Peterson, Sevy, Buto & Garret, Nunez was huge & still a major loss especially against lefties. Gotta put him on the 40 as soon as he is healthy. Diaz was & is a big question mark this year & going forward. He hasn’t been even close to who he was since surgery & he did his best impression of Armando Benitez tonight, bending, but not breaking…barely. The Mets need to go to stanek or Garrett in a tight game over Edwin to close in the NLCS until he proves otherwise. Mets can’t have another closer cost them the series just bc of the $ or what his role is supposed to be. Bench & defense were so critical as well. What a series! What a team! Mendoza has a steep learning curve & managing a pitching staff him or Hefner made some questionable decisions that cost the Mets several games, but he does do a good of keeping the team on an even keel after a big winning streak or several tough months when the ship was starting to sink. Overall a good rookie year who had & is still going to have some growing pains, but the players & some luck helped cover up some rookie mistakes as well.
    The Mets are incredibly resilient as painful as they are to watch. Even in their loss they went down fighting. They will not be an easy team to beat whether they go to the world series or not. LFGM

      Tbf, they were the best team in baseball for the last 99 games of the season. While the Mets were grinding and playing winning baseball the Phillies were playing at a near .500 clip. Excluding the first month and a half of the season the Mets were the best team in the east.
