Lt. Col. Matisek is spot on that the conversion is taking so long is due to hardware, avionics and software, just take one example, the artificial horizon instrument. The Soviet way is backwards (typical backwards Russia) to the Western method. From the article - Which way is up for Eastern and Western artificial horizons? - "An Aeroflot-Nord pilot flying a Western-built aircraft - a Boeing 737-500 crashed on approach to Perm, Russia, last year because of disorientation. The official report says the accident was at least partly caused by the fact that the Western and Russian artificial horizons (AH) - alternatively known as attitude director indicators (ADI) - work on a completely different psychology."
Excellent interview guest- Lt. Col. Matisek! There's been many reports about Russia having the capacity to jam communications on commercial aircraft flights in Europe. Will these F-16s be updated enough to be able to deal with Russian EW? (I think I remember you mentioning updated better radar in another recent interview with Silicon Curtain) That might be critical in an encounter with Russian jets. I also have heard that training spots for F-16s is difficult, as many countries are beginning to shift to F-35?
Just listened to Georgii from Ukraine matters. Hearing this great info on F16s straight after really puts a different perspective on how the Biden administration and the rest ARE actually doing a lot of good things in the right direction for Ukraine, Europe and democracy. We just struggle to comprehend why this process takes so long. We all want results NOW, but that’s not how it works.
This is out of the world of democracy works mate I know it’s slow but it gets the right result in the end. Remember Good will always prevail over evil…it just takes TIME.
I’ve found this officer on YT before, he’s one of many who seem to know what he’s talking about, and equally being ignored by those in the US government who should be listening.
We are very happy to have Franky as ERIC‘s non-resident research fellow, his expertise is invaluable! We are glad to hear that your enjoyed our interview with him
Unfortunately, Matisek was not able to go much into how difficult it is for experienced pilots to unlearn tactics that are great for Soviet era aircraft but fatal for Nato aircraft. Some detail on this is gone into in retired f-14 commander Ward Carrol's interview of Justin Bronk (Royal United Services Institute analyst) who points out why it is that experienced Ukrainian pilots fail tests that fresh pilots being trained from scratch do not. It is not a fluke with Ukraine- the same was found from every former Warsaw pact country. Poland converted over from Soviet aircraft to F-16s, they sent their most experienced Su-29 pilots, but when they sent the 1st most experienced pilot to the US training course, he failed, as did the second they sent to replace him. They were indoctrinated into Soviet Ground Control Intercept (GCI) expectations of a pilot, but though they learned radically different Nato tactics which take advantage of the strengths of the aircraft, in pressure situations they defaulted to their instincts and were easily defeated. Sure, they could fly the F-16 just fine and it can be used that way, as a more fragile version substitute for a Sukoi, which has some use for many bomb hauling type missions, but using them to their strengths involves vastly different tactics which will allow Ukraine to do more than bomb hauling and drone chasing. Learning tactics need for air superiority and penetration missions is going to take a while. Bronk discusses this at timecode 15:12. ua-cam.com/video/72QpCqBgrPU/v-deo.html
For me it's all about the children. Never forget all of the Russians who abused children and their families in Ukraine. From the mass graves (in Izium) to the stolen children. Now if Ukrainian parents don't become Russian citizens and go to flight against their brothers and cousins Russia will take their newborn children at birth. Speaking of Izium. What did those 414 people see? The Russians thought it was better to murder them and bury them all in a mass grave instead of letting them testify. Whatever they saw must have been truly horrific. At minimum I'm guessing rape and torture. If Russia want's to sign😅 a treaty they must first prove they will stand by one. If Russia wants to negotiate, start with your original written agreement. Pull back all of their troops back behind their original boarder and then you can start negotiations. If they don't show they will honor the original agreement how can you expect them to honor any further agreements. It's our war to lose. Russia can NOT win. Unless we choose to not support Ukraine of course. It is on us in the global West to pick the world we want to live in. Choose wisely. Thanks. Glory to Ukraine. God Bless Ukraine and her people. 🇺🇦🇺🇸
Any treaty with Russia should involve Russia giving up their nukes and military in exchange for security guarantees. They can sign memorandum in Budapest.
Where did you get this information, that Ukrainian parents have to get Russian citizenship and fight against Ukraine, otherwise their children will get taken away? Please give us a source. This is important.

Thx for the insight from a professional. I've been communicating in the same on social media with others thinking this is a 1 year project to set up to be false as well and I'm glad some reality is being fed now because nobody wins on misinformation and wishful thinking. I'm also pro expansion of NATO air space and actually not only 25-50 km into Ukraine but basically to the front or perhaps even entire Ukraine for defensive measures but who am I right. I do see it happen at some point the same as having NATO troops being able to help out inside Ukraine in securing large water projects, infrastructure and deterrence from Belarus. Putin's threats mean nothing and he knows it. He's even insecure speaking against his own military leadership. They are a circus at this stage and Ukrainians simply deserve full support on the front instead Macgyvering for survival which is even partially crowdfunded
You can fix the echo by hanging sound damping material on the large flat surfaces. If you can't afford egg crate, blankets will do. You can get them cheap at second-hand stores.
I would expect that hybrid warfare that was mentioned, e.g. sabotage, cyber attacks, are a major threat that are factored into the overall escalation policy of the West. The disruption of GPS guided transportation networks that happen earlier this year in eastern and central Europe likely are a recent example of how these threats impact these countries. Unfortunately it seems that these events may further deter governments of these countries.
I heard that under pressure, the former MIG pilots revert to what they learned before F16 training. The West should have started this training 2 years ago.
Experience shows that a better investment in training is virgin pilots, not experienced pilots. When NATO first attempted to train Polish pilots, the experienced pilots could not let go of their Soviet style training.
Hmm.. Delaying the introduction of Gripens from Sweden is a big mistake in my opinion.. Getting Gripens operational in Ukraine should be the priority, since they are so much more flexible, especially now that Ukraine gets ASC-890's.. They can relay data over link-16 ofcourse, but for the Gripens, they should also be able to use TILDS.. 🤔🧐
Not enough Grippons. It’s a volume issue. There are a lot more f-16s, in existence. More airframes and trainers for training. More parts and maintenance people too. Gripping might be a better plan for the specific Ukraine battle field, but there just are not enough planes and training facilities generate 100+ pilots, planes and maintainers per year. That can be done with the F-16.
@@davidradtke160 That's a "truth with modification".. No one has said that Ukraine should get Gripend only. But as it is now, the F-16 group is requesting Sweden to wait with Gripen. That is not a good solution for Ukraine, althoug ofcourse it's good for LM & their minions.. 🧐 For Ukraine, it would be better to have both systems, especially as they don't have the same operationonal restrains. For Ukraine, getting say 24 Gripens to complement their F-16's would help them a lot. What was holding Sweden back before was the pending NATO membership, that now is in place. Adopting 2 systems will be complicated, ofcourse, but Ukraine is at war, & if there's something they have shown so far, it is the ability to adopt multiple new systems simultaneously.. I'm conviced they can handle this aswell. 🧐
Everything in Russian is written backwards and upside-down, so I suppose the pilots have to reprogram their brains for the forward thinking American and French Jets. 🚀🎉🇺🇦🇫🇷🇺🇸🗽🛫
As long as Russia continues attempting to advance using their unsustainable losses strategy, Ukraine should do nothing but continue inflicting those losses by defending exactly as they have been for three past year.

F-16s should be able to use under wing fuel tanks. It would limit the weapons load out and reduce maneuverability.
It wouldn’t reduce maneuverability
because they can ditch the tanks
whenever it might be necessary.
Newer block versions have conformal tanks on the top sides of the fuselage. Hopefully we get those ones here too.
