    Thanks for this "public service announcement", glad I found it!
    I bought my Leica 10-25mm f1.7 in April 2021, and a few weeks back while being just still under warranty, my issue surfaced.
    Out of the blue, without any physical knocks, the lens zoom ring seized up just past the 12mm setting.
    I did not try to force the zoom, but now having heard your case, I think the seal may be the issue also, jamming the lens inoperable.
    I took it back to the retailer a few weeks back, and today was delighted to get an email,
    Stating that Panasonic Australia is going to replace the lens!
    Happy days 🍷

    Four years later. I bought the 25-50 part of the pair first. It is my best quality lens, and I couldn't love it more. I just today ordered the 10-25. Your video is making me worry! Let's hope after 4 years they've upped their gluing game.

    At 1st I was thinking of getting one of these lenses to go with my G9 for stills shooting ( it looked like the new G9 II still had some issues to iron out ).I figured I had a good relationship with an in town camera store so I gave them a call, ' No, they did not have a new Leica f/1.7, 10-25mm - in fact they were not going to be offering it in the future - but they had a good conditioned used one for $1200. With the help of your detailed review I've decided not to be in a hurry. I don't want to be saddled with a lens that has construction issues - made in China - that Panasonic will not warranty. Again thank you.

    I was about to bid this lens on eBay. But I contacted seller to ask specifically about this issue and he admited that this... (joint, edge, conjunction, seam, or whatever it is called - sorry, but my english vocabluary seems insufficient) is not perfectly tight. He sent me video and it can by seen there that when applying significant tension/streching force, it widens by about 0,5mm. Is it early sign of mentioned problem or is such widening of the gap (OH that is the word!) to be expected in fully functional copy when applying certain amount of force?

    • @RhettThompsonFilm
      @RhettThompsonFilm  4 роки тому

      I don’t know if that means it would eventually get worse but it’s definitely something to consider. Ask the seller if it is still under warranty and if not maybe try to see if you can get them to lower the price for you

    • @przybylskipawel
      @przybylskipawel 4 роки тому

      @@RhettThompsonFilm Of course it is not on warranty. If it was I would gladly use it as an excuse to get new copy under warranty. There would be no point in making any further research ;) Also he cannot lower the price as this is bidding with many participants. What I wanted to find out is wether your new copy (that you consider perfectly acceptable) is really tight? Like screw-locked tight. Or maybe there is some movement? I need a perspective of a person who is familiar with this issue.

    • @RhettThompsonFilm
      @RhettThompsonFilm  4 роки тому

      @@przybylskipawel So my new copy is pretty much perfect. I’m not sure if anything was done differently except maybe they used more glue or the glue just stuck better. Either way it’s been nearly a year and the lens is still solid 100%. That being said I always put the lens mount down in my bag so I’m always picking it up by the front as to not tempt fate too much. If you get one it should stick pretty well and you should have no issues with it but if you do see an issue with it take care of it right away. This might be a lens to consider getting insurance on just in case something ever goes wrong. I hope that answered your question but if not please feel free to ask something else!
