I can trace the exact moment I became obsessed with traveler's notebooks to this video. I purchased an A5 deluxe Hera two years ago and, 46 TNs later, it's still my favorite. :)
I Love It. I ordered mine before I finished the video! I have recently discovered the joy of travellers journals but don't have my A5 yet. That is my favorite size but I had not found the perfect one yet. That color sold me!
I've been bullet journaling in a Traveler's Notebook (A5 slim, or Midori standard size) for over a year, and I think you'll like the system. Your layouts are always so well done, but I don't have the artistic talent that God gave a rock. So, I use a printed weekly calendar insert for scheduling, one insert for rapid logging, and one insert for long term collections. The TN system is so customizable that I've even added accessories to hold all of my wallet items. So handy!
Beautiful ... Ive always thought Bullet Journaling meshed well with the Travelers Notebook system ... looking forward to seeing your videos as you tweak the system for you
Great video--as always--and welcome to the travelers notebook world! 😊👍 Just an FYI, an easier way to put your Leuttchurn in the TN so you add/remove easily is to wrap the 1st and 2nd strings (or 3rd and 4th strings) around the front and back covers--viola, no bump in the middle of the book! The spine rests in the small gap
Sorry... hit post too soon. I was explaining that the spine rests perfectly in the small gap between the 1st & 2nd (or 3rd & 4th strings). Then you can put something else on the remaining two strings like an extra book, dashboard, or folder. I use a thick Miquel Rius 400 page bound book for a work bullet Journal (check out my video if you're interested) and due to the thickness of the book, I wrap the 1st and 4th strings around the front and back covers (my TN has pockets) leaving the 2nd and 3rd strings under the spine. TN covers are perfect for the books used by bullet Journal era so, again, welcome! HTH!
I have 2 Darcy's, a butter rum, which was my fav, and a toffee. I love travelers notebooks, I switched from a Erin Condren and haven't looked back. It's way more functional and practical
I'm surprised to see that all these posts are leather-related...that's not what I was expecting. I was expecting to see more people comment on this system vs. the more traditional bullet journal system! I think the notebooks themselves are beautiful and I've had many leather journals (like diary-type journals) in the past, but what appeals to me about bullet journaling (which I've been doing since January) is that it's sleek, compact, and all-in-one. For me, the TN pretty much loses all that. To each her own, of course, and you are much more involved in your bullet-journaling than I, not to mention you are beautifully much more artistic than I am! So I look forward to seeing what you'll do with the TN!
Brittany Gancarz I think it's because seven months before this video she mentioned not wanting a leather bound notebook from nuuna for ethical reasons and now there's this.
Ohhhh, I'm new to bullet journaling and this might be a good fit for me. I'm another vegan planner so would seek out a non-leather option but thanks for showing how you're setting this up, I didn't realise traveller's notebooks were such a flexible option :)
On vacation this summer I coveted my sister’s travelers notebook but I like the A5 size of the leuchturn 1917. I ordered a basic TN from Amazon and loved the feel of the leather. I then ordered leather and made a TN type cover for my bullet journal. I love the customizable inserts. Using the bullet journal to schedule events and plan, while using the TN to journal, sketch and now, keep collections.
I've been in my TN for two years and I love it. Two inserts: 1 for monthly, dailys, and trackers. And 1 for collections, larger goals, and reference materials. Can't wait to peak inside your inserts ^^.
I love my TN's and I also love my bullet journal. I finally met my peace when I saw this video and ended up putting my bullet journal in an A5 Chic Sparrow. Loving it!!! Thank you for the great idea.
Welcome to the TN club, Kara! My L1917 is inside a TN cover along with a TN custom wallet from Etsy store MellonJournal. (For those who dislike leather, both the covers and wallets are fabric.) I have combined BuJo and TN into a VERY workable system.
I love this idea! Bullet journaling is awesome but I have to leave it behind a lot. This is a great way to go lighter but still have everything in place.
Welcome to the traveler's notebook family! Bullet journaling in a TN has always worked best for me. I am super happy for you. You're gonna love this journey!
I've been using traveler's notebooks for almost a year. Started off in rings, tried coils, but the TN is where my heart is (and that's after being in a LT1917 for 5 months - I missed my traveler's notebook way too much).
Omg. So funny. I'm still finishing a really thick bullet journal. I've had it for more than a year already. I'm close to filling it up maybe less than thirty pages remaining, it's just that along the way everything went crazy. My life became super hectic so long story short, I got a single insert and went ahead to start a new bujo log of sorts. Perfect timing. This gave me a nice idea of what to do once I finish up the old one AND the thin insert. Thanks so much!
WELCOME to the club!!! TNs are why I could never get into those hardback covered notebooks. It's so much easier to categorize and customize and swap things out. It's also much easier to access information since all my lists are in one insert, quotes in another, etc. Also, TNs come in so many sizes and materials (leather, pleather, cloth, paper, book); very versatile in how you can use them and for what purpose (wallet, journal, planner). I can see you designing the Boho Berry TN in the future . . . . :-)
Your hand-made inserts are adorable and I'm sure there are many people who will want them. But for me, the joy of using a completely blank journal is that I can decide what to put on the next page. I don't have to stick to a system that maybe doesn't meet my needs. I feel that one of the main advantages of the whole Bullet Journal idea is the ability to customize it to fit your needs. Pre-printed pages lock you into someone else's idea of what you need to track, write about, plan, etc.
Hi Kara! This system is very much like the one I came up with too. There's so much I love about bujo system but I disliked organizing things chronologically and having to copy crucial information repeatedly. I ended up purchasing a TN cover and designated each of the dot grid inserts I put in it into my needed categories. It's great because as an artist I can pack or unpack my various sketchbook inserts/notebooks as needed (if I feel like drawing that day/am working on a project). I've used this hybrid system for almost a year now and it's been FABULOUS! I hope you love it too and that it brings you planner/bujo peace. :)
Wow!! This just made me smile!!!!! I just moved into a B6 TN and love it. Please, please consider doing other sizes of you wonderful insert. I'd love to be the first order of the B6 size!!! :)
The leather is beautiful and is what I look for when buying a journal. It's been used for millennia, no reason to stop using it now. I'm glad I stumbled onto your videos, thank you very much.
Hey Kara! I love your videos, but was surprised at how excited I was during this one!! Some feedback, I love the idea of a little notebook for one month at a time. Maybe you could have some blank pages at the beginning for monthly spreads and then offer your monthlies as stickers...? It would be great for me to have a thin notebook to just slip in my purse and change out every month. Thanks for always inspiring!!
You are a genius!!!! I wanted to try a traveler's notebook so badly but i didn't want to get rid of the LT 1917 I had just started last week! I also tried a binder planner earlier this year and didn't enjoy it as much as I thought i would. Ultimate solution! Thanks Kara!
I love that weekly insert you designed! Also, a quick tip: if you have staple bound notebooks, the staples could damage the elastics. I personally would recommend putting washi tape over the staples in the inserts. I do this and I find it works very well.
I put my Lechturm in a TN & don't notice the band way back in there, works for me. I really like your insert & the colors. love the darker pink & black colors together. I don't use the weeklies as much & feel they can be a waste of space as my days are so unpredictable, but I would love to have one with your mood mandalas or places to complete challenges, habit trackers etc.
I recently started using a traveler's notebook (which was really just a leather journal that I ripped everything out of and reformatted to add what I wanted. I added a simple agenda (I never really used the big fancy ones, all I need is a place to write stuff down and a to do list), some blank pages for note pages and my writing journal. It's really all I need... I was spending too much money on fancy stuff I never used.
Within 24 hours of seeing this, I ordered my travelers notebook. I am hoping you could make a video soon showing how you are using it, as you get acclimated to it. I would love any tips and tricks you have, as I will soon be starting mine. Also, you have a lot of really cool challenged (plan with me, rock your handwriting, boho berry challenge) and I was wondering how you organize them? do you put them in your bullet journal or do you do it some other way. Love you boho berry, You have taught me so much and ignited my passion.
I have been using Travellers Notebooks for quite a while now. Each of mine have different jobs, one is for my family genealogy. Each family has different colored inserts. One stays in our RV, for travel journaling, to do and shopping lists. One is my daily planner, my brain. And one is my art journal. I love just adding the inserts instead of buying a whole new book and I can make inserts with as many pages as I need.
so excited to see how this grows, i am a die hard chic sparrow TN fan and have been doing some bujo, but can't seem to get my groove going with it, so it will be cool to see how yours evolves
Thank you so much for sharing! I have a TN that I bullet journal in, One I use as a wallet, and one I use for edc journaling. I use my Hobonichi for medical and Health journaling, and this one I take with me to my appointments and patient talks. Yours is Beautiful! 💜
I love your idea of adding cardstock covers and pockets to your inserts. I'm going to try that. It's a great way to add color to them so that they coordinate with the rest of your color scheme. Fun!
Love that color!! I have been using an A5 Mr. Darcy in ink with my Leuchtturm for the past year, and I love it. I'm also using the Inkwell Press Quarterly planner A5 inserts to keep track of my writing schedule. My other two inserts are just for goals and lists. Now I'm dreaming of this teal leather though. I was looking at the Mr Darcy in Titanic but now I'm loving this Odyssey!! so many choices!!
Hi, I really love the idea of having both options for the little insert, thick paper and a thinner one 📝 because I love the thicker paper but not card stock. Thicker paper helps me I don't like ghosting. Thanks for sharing your video! I have been using this method for bullet journal for some time now and I love the protection it has and the versatility I get from changing things inside. Go, travel journal! Yay!
Hi Kara I got my travelers at Mother's Day and am finally in planner peace and have my bullet journal in it along with my other journals.i am so addicted! I love your insert idea and when you get them in your shop please let us know! Have fun with Bella
Gorgeous and informative video as always! It's a shame to see so many people complaining about about the 'cruelty' of leather instead of enjoying the video. Those covers are beautiful, and the feel and durability of quality leather is simply unparalleled. I hope their comments don't dampen your obvious excitement for the new setup.
I agree. It would be a shame to waste the skin of an animal that was killed to be eaten anyway. We evolved to be omnivorous; eating meat is how we developed such powerful brains (check it out; that is a fact, not an opinion).
i just switched to a 6 ring planner and next its the travelers notebook i just want to get used to the idea first GREAT CHOICE KARA 🙌 thank you for being such an inspiration to me and all of your tribe ❤❤❤❤
Yay!! Welcome to the wonderful world of TN's! Funny thing is that I've never used this A5 size but love the inserts are skinnier. Excited to see your set up.
That Hera color is gorgeous! I love anything in teal, turquoise, aqua, those colors. Great idea how you put your bullet journal in there. I love TNs. They lay flat, you can carry several notebooks in them and a few supplies, like stickers, pens. I put a multi pen in the pen holder and clip my fountain pen onto the side of that and just wrap the elastic around the whole thing to keep it in place. It's just nice having everything in one place and you can just grab it and go. I think you'll enjoy it. :)
purchasing something 2 days before a new product is released. Well, I loved the iPhone dancing lady emoji. I loved it so much I got it tattooed on my ankle. The next month, Apple updated their Emojis and the dancing lady on my ankle were suddenly hopelessly outdated just like that. So, know that feel hahaha
I love this Kara! I go between a traveler's notebook and LT1917. My TN is for my mommy life and my LT is for my writer/bookish life. I really like your insert! Not many have pockets (the Moleskin inserts do but there's only one in the back.)
What timing! I just ended the school year and I decided to go with a travelers notebook for the summer and looking for a cover. I'll be checking this one out. Thanks as always for inspiration
I started BJ in a homemade TN and love it. I love being able to keep my collections in one notebook and not having to transfer them to a new book. Love your blue one so much, hope you enjoy it.
Thank you for a great video! I came at this process from the opposite direction as you - I started in TN's and then just discovered the Bullet Journal recently. I picked up an inexpensive dot grid insert in order to practice with the bullet journal, while still utilizing my TN cover and layout. But I love the way you tied in the Leuchtturm! I also really like the layout of the insert you are designing - I'm looking forward to hearing more about that!
I love the idea of your pre-printed monthly TN! If you are taking suggestings...I would like a few blank pages at the beginning for a monthly calendar of some form, monthly tracker (like a mood tracker), and budget layout. Can't wait to see your final product!
I love all my tns! I have all kinds. I've also liked the bullet journal, but not being in the same book for months. I love the idea of changing the booklet every month and having lists separate. I don't have a true leather A5, yet😊. But I will. I have modified my hobonichi covers to be a tn, but they don't fit some of the books I want to use. Sooo love ChicSparrow and FoxyFix, but I'm also going to try TheLeatherQuillSoppe. I'm trying to patiently wait for my order😳. I hope that your Tn works out for you! Great idea for the inserts! They will help newbies like me to get started and organized😊. Thank you for sharing your new ideas and take care 🤗💗.
Oh you will love the system❤️ I have to warn you that Chic Sparrows are addicting😲 Jennifer and her team are wonderful to work with. This will really spark your creativity and I love following your channel🌺
I love your idea of offering inserts in your shop. It would be nice if the first few pages were blank so everyone could pick there own monthly theme, but having the weekly’s already printed is nice. I’m brand new to bullet journaling. I currently have a very Chunky MINI HP that I have frankenplanned but I feel like I need more ways to express my planning style. That’s what drew me to bullet journaling. It’s just taking me awhile to finish the month of July, I’m afraid of making mistakes.
Loved your demonstration. I too looove the TN and been having thinking of how I can transfer my bullet journaling into a TN. Can't wait to see your full setup video.
I love my chic sparrow notebook! I have a Siren too and am in love with the new Hera! I have a personal size and LOVE the insert you made...I've been looking for something like that so please make it in all different sizes!!
If you are willing to do two trims, you can use legal sized paper to print! Just trim .25 off the width, then fold in half and trim the edges together. You could offer it as a printable for A4 or Legal.
I am so excited by this video and your moving to a TN! I recently bought a Little Mountain Bindery trifold fillion (teal) and love it. Looking forward to watching your journey transitioning to this new system. Thanks for sharing!
Ugh I’m sick of people complaining on the comments about the leather! No one ever seems to care about how much paper we use in our lives! I understand being uncomfortable with leather products (in fact I avoid them myself) but we need to think more about the plants!
Hi Kara, regarding making the A5 insert from A4 sheets, I was wondering if you were familiar with how grain direction affects the insert. In order to make sure the insert lays flat and is the best possible, you'd want to make sure the grain direction is in line with the spine of the insert. A4 sheets usually have long grain, so when you fold them, the grain direction will be wrong. I think it's worth researching, maybe you can find sheets with short grain instead! :)
OMG!!! --lol same issue a my first LT1917 order 2 different colors in 2 days 😝😳😝😳😁you have been inspiring me for over a year... I love your creativity and positivity!!! I started my bujo journey in a clothe totally custom TN... But have found my the smaller notebooks I was running out of pages too fast... So, I order my first LT1917!!! (So excited!!!) & am reorganizing to a plan similar to yours!!! Great minds think a like!!!!!!Keep rocking it!!!
I think it would be fun to make the inserts customisable, for example I don't like using a time tracker in my journal so, as well as this I think that it would be a good idea to also put monthlies in the front e.g tracker and month in a view pages so that the whole month is in one book
Great idea! I think you should make a row of the seven days of the week for every day of the spreads, so that the user just has to colour in the correct day of the week or cross the others out
Genius. My travellers cover will arrive in July (I will get it from a friend who travels home then :)), and I felt a bit guilty because mycurrent notebook is just half filled. I guess I'll start with a "Leuchtturm insert" too :))
Love the travellers notebook system and am about to make the purchase myself! Loving watching this review and tour of a new book but wish it wasn't made from someone's skin. I'll be choosing a washable paper cover which is environmentally friendly and doesn't cost someone their life. I recommend it to anyone here in the comments :)
Try it, Rachel. You won't regret it. :) I've been using a similar hybrid system for about a year now and so far it's exactly what I need. Best part is I don't have to keep on transferring the same information repeatedly.
somethinguncreative It's on the way! I can't wait to use it!! I am so looking forward to being able to split up my bullet journal without using a Filofax type system. I've nearly finished my current bullet journal and I can't wait to move into my travellers notebook! I ordered from an Etsy shop in the UK :)
Oh lordy. I'm excited to see how a Traveler's Notebook works out for you! I tried to BuJo in a Traveler's Notebook and it soooo did not work for me. Moved back into a LT1917 and use my Traveler's Notebook for journaling.
Kara, i suggest a piece of washi to cover the staples in your inserts so they don't rub against the elastics and fray it
I can trace the exact moment I became obsessed with traveler's notebooks to this video. I purchased an A5 deluxe Hera two years ago and, 46 TNs later, it's still my favorite. :)

Welcome to the traveler's notebook family! Bullet journaling in a TN has always worked best for me. I am super happy for you. You're gonna love this journey!
Some people say that the staples can snag the elastic, so if you turn the page of your notebook by 1, the staples won't be against your elastic. :)

Aw, thanks Ali! Your videos definitely nudged me in that direction on more than one occasion. I finally gave in! :D

I love chic sparrow!!! I got the pemberly and I love it!! The patina is super nice too once it wears in it becomes softer than the others
Teal / turquoise is my favorite color, too! Blue-green and green-blue were always the first colors used and used up out of the Crayola box.
Hi Kara! This system is very much like the one I came up with too. I was going to suggest the same. Definitely add a couple pages at the front for monthly pages, then you can capture the entire month.
Great idea Beth Lindsey! I get tired of carrying a bigger purse so my planner can fit.

I have been with you from the beginning - I give you 4 weeks before you are back!!!
It does seem rather bulky, but that's just personal preference. I personally can't stand bulky stuff like that. But some people love it.
Traveler's notebooks are addicting. Once you start using them they are hard to leave.
I used one for a couple months. couldn't quite get into it
Theonlynikki I have a midori
But, I still use the bullet journal in the LT 1917
the insert you made looks amazing!! ❤️
I cannot WAIT for your travelers notebooks!! I hope I can get them in your first release!!

Stumbled upon you out of nowhere and my name is Kara and my favorite color is teal too. Awesome!
I'm really stoked about you offering notebooks as planner inserts for TN's ... can't wait for you to make my life easier yet again!
purchasing something 2 days before a new product is released.
The color of your emerald leather is divine!
I Love the idea of threading a hardcover Leuchtturm1917 into the travelers notebook!
OMG!! Yes! When you make your month inserts, wouldn't it be so cool to have the color-it covers be something of a monthly mood mandala variety?!?
What timing! I just ended the school year and I decided to go with a travelers notebook for the summer and looking for a cover. I'll be checking this one out. Thanks as always for inspiration
I started BJ in a homemade TN and love it. I love being able to keep my collections in one notebook and not having to transfer them to a new book. Love your blue one so much, hope you enjoy it.
I would SO buy that insert. Oh my goodness I hope you sell that!!!
YAY!!!!! So glad you joined this family. It's WONDERFUL!!!!
Combine the best of both worlds! Bullet journal and TN! Welcome to the TN life! You won't regret it!
It's fantastic, Kara! Thanx for super idea! I had one Midori before, but I was not happy with the small size ...
I'm so glad you're finally trying out a TN! I can't wait to see more!!
Oh you will love the system❤️ I have to warn you that Chic Sparrows are addicting😲 Jennifer and her team are wonderful to work with. This will really spark your creativity and I love following your channel🌺
Love the smell of new leather. Hope his system works out well for you! Definitely excited to see what you do with it.
I have to say! I like the cover on your weekly notebook.
Loved your demonstration. I too looove the TN and been having thinking of how I can transfer my bullet journaling into a TN. Can't wait to see your full setup video.
I need that Hera notebook!!! I just bought the LT1917 Notebook in teal as well. It would be a great match. I would buy your inserts as well!!!
You could offer it as a printable for A4 or Legal.
the teal colour is stunning.
Yes! Please sell traveler's notebook inserts! Even the prototype looks amazing.
Love, love, love your insert design. Please make this an option when you add it to your shop.
Kara yes! I have a A5 chic sparrow and I keep my Leuchtturm in it! inspired by you and Ali Brown ;)
unfortunately it is a bit heavy. that's my only issue with it but it is worth it to me.
YEY! finally you decided on TN! you are gonna love it. Currently Im using pocket & personal. thanks for sharing
That planner insert!! 😍😍
Exactly what I've been trying to do! Take all the best features from each type of planner system!
love it. can't wait to buy one of your new inserts. would love to try one.
These are so great. I am glad I found this again.
If you make those inserts I will have to buy the A5, I love the way it looks
That Boho Berry weekly booklet is the best thing since sliced bread. I love it. It s bullet journaling deluxe.
I LOVE my traveler's notebooks. You are going to be hooked!
I really like the idea of travelers notebooks.. maybe I won't insert my whole bujo in it like u did.. but I would get mine soon too~~~
What a brilliant idea! So simple but totally genius.
I would so buy the insert once you have it for sale it would help us, the ones that are trying to start journaling and are getting overwhelmed.
WOW I think you may have just introduced me to my perfect system! 😮
Jessica M. Why it didn't work for you?
