What is the black thing?
It's stamp enamel, it fills in the engraving to make it look darker. Totally optional.
Would this machine and technique work with gold plated stainless steel?
It can engrave softer metals so aluminum and copper are about it. Stainless steel would be best engraved with a laser.

What paint did you use to colour it please?
This is called stamp enamel, it's specially formulated to fill in the engraving and not come off. You can find it here amzn.to/3NNHb2e
