Looks great! Love the design. I've been watching several videos by Amy Romeu, who makes several items with faux leather. Fabri-tac glue seems to be a better option instead of hot glue.
Thank you for this useful, clear, well-made video. I have tried a similar keychain project and was not as successful. I didn't have a heat press and was using an iron. I was not able to control the temperature well, and ended up melting the dollar tree vinyl. A caution to your viewers, this leather is so cheap, you need to be very careful about applying heat. My other issue was that once the key chain was made, it only lasted a couple months before the part around the key ring started ripping. My opinion is that the dollar tree vinyl is just too thin and cheap, it's not worth it.
I used some of the dollar tree faux leather to make heart-shaped magnetic bookmarks. Also put dollar tree iron on foil on the faux leather. It turned out nice. Nice tutorial❤️
I use the Dollar Tree vinyl to line card wallets. I also use Pellon to fuse the two layers together and that helps reduce the leather vinyl from buckling.
Thank you! I happened upon their faux leather yesterday and decided to make some luggage tags. I think I’m going to place a piece of chipboard in between for strength. Your tips for cutting and heat transfer were helpful. About to go make it now 🥰
Good video. I have made these before, but not with Dollar Tree faux leather. I will try this. You are so right about lining up the circles and the hot glue being uneven. There is an adhesive sheet which has paper on both sides and I cut a duplicate of the leather pattern and sealed the sides together after removing the paper.
If you use a brayer after using hot glue it helps flatten it out. Or your mini heat press after you applied the hot glue. Be careful pressing too hard with the dollar store faux leather or you can easily flatten out the texture in the leather.
Very good tutorial. Thank you! Just want to point out: The reason it didn’t align is because you were supposed to “Center Vertically” at around @3:40 in your video. “Distributing” doesn’t align the shapes in the same axis. It just adjusts the distance between the objects.
I'm thinking if there was a thin cutout of Burch Wood in the center to adhere the leather to, it would add a bit of thickness to the overall keychain & make it a bit more durable. Cute idea. It just seems a little flimsy for a keychain.
Great Tutorial! I bought this Faux Leather and was trying to figure out the cut settings.Thank you! I have the explore air, so not sure how it would cut on that. I will have to try it on my Silhouette cameo 4. With the rotary cutter. By the way a good glue I like it Beacon 3 and 1 same as Beacon Fabric Tac. TFS
@megancastro84 I'm right here with you! Bought some a month ago and have the courage after watchingbthis video!?I'm brand new to cricut and took me 3 years to start trying it!!! (Covid, surgery delayed me ok... LOL)
just something I thought of when you showed these if you were to put the glue piece under the Teflon sheet again and run your heat press over it again the the glue on it would most likely flatten more
I loved the video. I often tried to figure what you could make with this material. I'm going to try and do some key chains. Where did you get the hooks for the key chains.
So this leather is pretty thin? Are the double layer applications sufficient? How well is it wearing, on the keychains? Thanks for the tips, Dollar Tree is much handier than the 30 miles to a craft store.
I wonder how the heat bond tape would work, maybe cut it out on the cricut making it the same size as the leather?? I have never used it but it just came to my mind while I was watching this.
I wonder if u can sublimate the white one. Um finna find out rn. This will make an awesome marketing idea. They can put their QR code on them and pass them out
This is such a great idea for my hubby for Father’s Day! He is forever losing his car key LOL. Do you know what cut setting I could use on an Explore for the faux leather? I know you have the maker and give the category on there, usually I can figure out the translation but I’m not so sure on this one.
I must be missing something then... my Explorer is set with the dial on the machine. Is there another way that I haven't known all this time? Sorry in advance if that is a silly question!
@KaylasCricutCreations thank you @KaylasCricutCreations! I have not done that in the 3 years of having it believe it or not. It sounds horrible typing that now. 😕 I will definitely give that a try pronto since I already have the faux leather. 🙂👍
What would you to add a bit of weight or sturdiness to the keychain? It looks a little flimsy…would you add foam or cardboard? Let me know if you’ve tried inserting another material between the faux leather piece. Thanks.
Wow wish I had watched this last week instead of today, which is Father’s Day lol. I have lots of faux leather both DT and patterned. Now I need to come up with keychain wording for year round ideas lol. Would help me definitely use some of this massive amount of faux leather and scarp vinyl. I did make the keychain wristlets before and need to get back to doing some more

Awesome!!! Thank you! I’ll have to try it out. ❤️

I can’t believe how easy it stuck to the leather 😮
YES! It works so well! 🙌🏻

They have iron on foil?
So fun!!! I bet the dollar tree foil iron on looks so pretty on it. I was really impressed with that too!

Girl! You are my go to ! You always know what to do and how to do it! Granny friendly! 😂 thank you! ❤
I'm so glad!!! ❤ thank you so much for watching! :)

Those look really great! I'm glad to see that the Dollar Tree faux leather cut really well. I will definitely try some of it now.

I think heat and bond wold work perfect for these. Thanks for sharing this ideas
Only watched two of your videos and already learned so much. I just got a new explore 3 so I'm learning what I can do. Thank you!!
It turned out beautiful! 😊
Thank you! ❤❤
Well! I’m impressed! Thanks for the idea!

Very nice job I love the full leather from dollar tree👍👍
This is an awesome and easy project. Thanks for sharing 🌴💕
Nice video, and thank you for no annoying background music!!
I really love this!! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for this great idea! I have made earrings with the leather. It worked well for me.
Very neat! Thanks for sharing
They look awesome
Really slick idea.
These turned out great❤
Those turned out very nice. Great tutorial.
Thanks so much 💗
Nice! I think flocked iron-on would be nice for an accent on the leather, too. :)
They came out great! Just subscribed
Love you ❤❤❤ you are amazing really i like so much the way you explain 🙏🙏
Thanks!!

Excellent thank you 👍🏻
Wow I intended to make these. Just in time Kayla! 😁
Haha! Great timing! 😀
I see I’m not the only one in here that has a bunch of that faux leather. This is a great video. I think I have the courage now. 😄 👏🏼
lol!! Thank you so much for watching!! I'm so glad it was helpful! 💗

I am hooked 🎉😂

Watching now .. I also have a bunch of faux leather that I haven’t used from last year
Awesome!!!

Thank you for using faux leather from dollar tree. I some and couldn’t make it work.
Haven't seen the faux leather in any of the stores I can get to quickly. The Crafter Square stores are in parts of town that you don't go to alone.
What blade did you use to cut the leather?
Where can I buy the machine and how much please
Could you add card stock to the center to make it stronger
Just curious is this stuff washable? I make beanies and was thinking to use it for the tags?
I noticed you moved the white plastic rollers to one side. Is there a reason - will they make marks on the leather?
Can you use hemming tape?
I have been looking for the faux leather for the past year. It still has not shown up in our local dollar trees
Do you know if DT faux leather is washable?
I wonder if u can sublimate the white one. Um finna find out rn. This will make an awesome marketing idea. They can put their QR code on them and pass them out
Yes, it was uneven. It was not the glue stick. Look at 3:37. You could have centered them vertically, instead.😊
Thank you!! I thought the distribute vertically would have lined it up. That makes sense why it wasn't totally lined up when gluing it though!!
👍🏼🤗❤️

Commenting to see an answer😉
I use the same setting - paper thin faux leather.
I must be missing something then... my Explorer is set with the dial on the machine. Is there another way that I haven't known all this time? Sorry in advance if that is a silly question!
@@ambermyers4256have you tried switching the dial to custom? Then you can choose the cut setting in Cricut design space.
@KaylasCricutCreations thank you @KaylasCricutCreations! I have not done that in the 3 years of having it believe it or not. It sounds horrible typing that now. 😕 I will definitely give that a try pronto since I already have the faux leather. 🙂👍

Can you put htv on the cricut genuine leather or only in faux leather?
I believe you can add it to genuine leather. I have not tried it out myself though.
Amazing !!
Thank you!! :)
The only thing that I don’t like is that use of the heat gun glue .. I think I will try the E6000
I think that will work a lot better!!
I'm going to have to look at other stores in my city, haven't seen faux leather in the stores close to home in 2 year's...but I live in Canada lol.
Fabric tac glue works great too.

nice but not align right
