trumpet playing at its best. total discipline, total control and the most important, the depht and the lyric , with a wonderful tone. one of a million...
As much as I should revel in the sublime musicianship of these master musicians, I feel a deep sadness in the fact that Michael and Roy left us way too soon.
It brings joy to my ears to hear all of the great ones and sadness to my heart that we loose them to soon and to many never to be duplicated or replaced.
RIP Roy. I'm glad I got to see you with this band. Bet you're jamming right now with your heroes. You belong with them. You're one of the all time greats.
what to say... difficult to put down words this quintet is amazing!! That Brecker solo in Naima the way he develops it from strat to finish is crazy. Yes and Roy has got something that is difficult to find in a trumpet player, apart from technique, is SOUND.
Mr. Brecker and Mr. Hargrove on “The Poet” (in particular) ...... Wow!!!!!!! The sax/trumpet combo is something that works just well enough to play the “head” to get to the solos, or it’s something that is spectacular in itself. It can’t really be practiced. Wish we could heard more of them together.
This gig is right up there with the best; the MD'-ing (and arranging.?) by Herbie(?), and how complementary Roy and MB are with their tones and Miles/Wayne approach. Roy is sublime with his patience and canny slurring. Every solo is a monster, tho i don't like that MB gurgling on so what, empty the water out, lol.. How Herbie comes roaring in on 'Sorcerer' is amazing. Must have been chanting. Mraz and Mr. Jones are tasteful. Many thanks for post. Peace
A Masterpiece, that cannot even so elevate the ‘rating’ on this ‘Performance of Great Jazz Musicians’, perhaps, just maybe, if you so will, ‘ Some ENTITY OUT OF THIS WORLD’! To Each His or Her Own! And Do NOT WE SO HEAR AND FEEL AND INTERPRET GREAT JAZZ INDIVIDUALLY, Yet that is Amazing, for each of us so Listening to this so Incredible Group of Jazz Greats, We All will take with Us our Own ‘ Impressions and Opinions’ after hearing ICONS of JAZZ so PERFORM AT A ‘ Ridiculously Extremely Higest Level’! So Just Allow this Music to enter into Your Heart, and allow it to so Brirghten Each of Your Days’! Merci Beaucoup! Les Couleurers de ma vie! Absolute! Avoir Mon AMIS! 😉🇫🇷🇺🇸🧕🏾
Is so sad they are both gone, Michael Brecker, saxophone and Roy Hargrove, trumpet, these one of the latest giants in their instruments and musical composition and creativity. What a great entertaining concert and music. Thanks.
An absolute masterpiece. An extraordinary quintet. An exceptional interplay among these incredible musicians. A wonderful memory of Roy and Michael ...
Thanks so much for this post, it's going in my cherished bank, as beautiful as the grain in GM's Bass. Listen while you can before it's illegal to purge spit valve.
amazing ...all star big energy...this is jazz ...something like this in our days gives us life! roy is huge ...mike ...miss u ..herbie the hurt of thw universe :) thanks for the post!!!
Pinocchio (by W . Shorter) is maybe the most original version i've listen heard (the free-jazz is in) ; Herbie to : with a certain "Cecil Taylor" feeling
notice how herbies left hand NEVER gets lazy during the soloing of his right hand. he is a master at this. even other great players left hand gets lazy in chord outlining when they get craze especially during very quick tempos but not herbie. his hands are ALWYAYS working together.
00:22:00 The piece (impression) is in the key of D but Roy is improvising out and it is f**** sounding so good ! Does anyone know which key or mode he uses ? I'm lost ... Roy you has just gone but I'm already missing ... RIP Roy.
@@thechunkytrucker5111 yes at first he went from D minor to a whole phrase on D harmonic minor then D melodic minor and from maybe some modes melodic minor maybe while incorporating chromaticism and maaaaybe some fourth patters but in what scale or mode? I I DONT KNOW! Then he just took off just crazy and sick and insane and umm, aaah, oooo…..🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯. . . . . . . Oh crap what happened? Where am I? What day is it?!?!
is this the same performance as what was released on the record? these are just astonishing music moments, i'm so glad these people were able to come together in this way.
The original band was with Patitucci and Brian Blade. That's the one on record. I knew they toured later with this rhythm section, but had never heard them until now. Incredible@!
Yes never had him down as one of 'those' pianists before. It almost sounds like someone dubbed it over for a joke! Even more tuneless than Jarret but thankfully not as loud ;)
Wonderful set, but when will pop recording engineers learn that CYMBALS are VERY important to JAZZ drummers? Willie is keeping time on the ride cymbal, but I never hear it in the mix! You can't close mic everything else and use distant overheads to get cymbals!
Can anyone please tell us if there is a memorable passage in any of this noise?...you know, something melodic that one would remember come Monday morning. Jazz musicians trying to impress each other, nothing akin to a coherent musical delivery.....just say'n
Tell "us?" You're the only person I've read here who isn't waxing effusive in appreciation for this gorgeous offering. Walk toward it, it isn't coming to get you.

one and only! :)
I agree (if it's him who's choise to made hommage to Miles Davis in 95)
As much as I should revel in the sublime musicianship of these master musicians, I feel a deep sadness in the fact that Michael and Roy left us way too soon.
It brings joy to my ears to hear all of the great ones and sadness to my heart that we loose them to soon and to many never to be duplicated or replaced.
And George slipped away from us last year, almost un-noticed with so many others who COVID took from us
RIP Roy. I'm glad I got to see you with this band. Bet you're jamming right now with your heroes. You belong with them. You're one of the all time greats.
Amen. And this was Roy at the very top of his form.
KKK
Damnit Roy was so so so so special.
Man! Roy Hargrove and Brecker!!!! the whole group was in a different zone, the Hancock Zone
26:41 Solo Mike Brecker Impressions
BIG BIG BIG JAZZ MUSIC ... i love PINOCCHIO ... OHH MY ... the vibes .. the shivers ...
I cannot stop replaying that mashup of So What/Impressions; especially Michael Brecker's solo.
Such a beautiful balance between roy and mike... Really unique. I'll never be able to see them live.
But we’ll see that they live forever
roy will be missed... glad i had the opportunity to play with him.......
No question about any of these guys. Musical!!!!
My god, I „knew“ George Mraz, but never realized what a stellar bassist he was. RIP.
One of the best things there is on YT

Great Live Jamming...Eternal Masters !...
the Solo of Michael brecker on Naima is a killer solo!!!! Please write it out note by note amazing work that would be...
3 masters at their very best + great drums and bass.
Magnificient! I miss those days of real music.
my man willieeeeee...absolute quality stuff...great musicians...

Наима Майкла Брэкера просто потрясает! [ 00:45:15 ]
Such beautiful music! Each and every musician a complete master! Man oh man!
still love your music!!
As good as it gets-one of the best "supergroups" playing tribute to Miles and Trane.
HERBIE HANCOCK IS 10:57 . I BELIEVE YOU DON'T SEE SUCH TALENT BUT ONCEEVERY ONE HUNDRED YEARS!!!!!
An absolute masterpiece. An extraordinary quintet. An exceptional interplay among these incredible musicians. A wonderful memory of Roy and Michael ...

Purismo e Avangard very special ❤🎉
Five dudes on fire at the same time!
Rest in peace to two of the best frontmen of our time. Incredible to see them together.
Especial presentacion musical Michael Brecker Directiones Musicales Roy Hargrove y Herbie Hanck
Remarkable historical concert
Wow... Amazing
One of the most textured renditions of "My Ship" by a vocalist is Flora Purim's.
Incredible band; Willie Jones III is a bad man.
Excellent! Thank you uvisni!
Pinocchio (by W . Shorter) is maybe the most original version i've listen heard (the free-jazz is in) ; Herbie to : with a certain "Cecil Taylor" feeling
Great bass and drums

Roy you has just gone but I'm already missing ... RIP Roy.
at first it sounds like he's messing around with various types of Eminor scales, and then he just goes way out that it's a lil hard to describe
F Samson The key /mode that Roy uses is “beautiful music”. It’s as simple and complicated as that 🤠
@@thechunkytrucker5111 yes at first he went from D minor to a whole phrase on D harmonic minor then D melodic minor and from maybe some modes melodic minor maybe while incorporating chromaticism and maaaaybe some fourth patters but in what scale or mode? Try putting it at slow speed and learning by ear. You'll get some cool stuff for your own playing!
Super Band
All kings play together...
I'm Amazed for once
Supreme love act in chords 13 from Michael Brecker to (them master with Wayne Shorter) : John Coltrane
wonderfull... "Pinochio" wasn't in the CD version so this is the first time I hear thi arrangement... very interesting
... thanks for the interesting post !!!
Wish you all the best !!!
THANK YOU

なんかスゲー!!燃える!!
This version of The Sorcerer suits me fine.
😀🍄💛💚
no wonder the studio album with these songs won a Grammy the following year (w J.Pattitucci on b, B. Blade on dr)
never ending box of surprises...thanks youtube..."you really gota me now...you got me so i can´t sleep at night"(the kinks)...lol...
53:23 - Brecker has a tiny trumpet hidden inside his sax?
Roy's like: Damn Micheal can harmonize.
And Michael was probably like: damn this guy can feel it
Cuarteto excepcional!!
I just noticed that those mysterious sounds are Herbie's weird screaming, what the hell?!!
I was thinking the same thing lol
Yes never had him down as one of 'those' pianists before. It almost sounds like someone dubbed it over for a joke! Even more tuneless than Jarret but thankfully not as loud ;)

do not pay attention to it ...

コルトレーンより親近感のあるマイケルブレッカー
Roy Hargrove shines through, outshining Brecker and even the boss Hancock. What a waste of enormous talent!
!!!!!
🍀💙🌾☺️
A dangerous combination of sick wild cats.. RIP to fallen legends Michael and Roy left us too soon.
What keys are they improving in? What do I need to study to understand where they are playing?
24:08
does anyone know who the drummer is?
When jazz MONSTERS get together......lawdhamercy.
herbie is like good wine...but please play jazz and stop goin in circles with that "pop" stuff...
much much rather have statues of this guys than of any major captain or captain or fucking unknow soldier...lol...
All this needs is Nick Jonas on guitar
Wonderful set, but when will pop recording engineers learn that CYMBALS are VERY important to JAZZ drummers? Willie is keeping time on the ride cymbal, but I never hear it in the mix! You can't close mic everything else and use distant overheads to get cymbals!
