Tone is so tight in riff number 1
thanks!
I’m currently writing riffs for my school’s battle of the bands in two weeks. This couldn’t have come at a better time!
Cool! Good luck!
You are a bold one
Write 1st, 2nd... 3rd, 4th endings. Endings help create seque to other chords and keep the riff fresh for the listener.
sounds clever!
That neck grain is wonderful
First! Great video! Love your QOTSA videos! More please!
🤘🏻
Awesome video! What we took away from it was not actually one of the specific 10 tips, but something you do in a lot of the examples as a by-product anyway: extended use of open strings during riffs. Always brings a different texture to stuff, especially when used as a drone effect :)
Thanks guys! I rocked a Hughes & Kettner amp for many years with my first band. Paired with a Boss BD-2 it was a lethal combo ;)
We bet it was! Can't beat a simple Boss overdrive. Well, if you ever feel like finding out what our amps sound like these days, drop us a line :)
I always like your videos but this one was exceptional! Great ideas,y your playing has a ton of style and that was one of the most inspiring tones I’ve encountered on UA-cam 🎉
One of the few amongst guitar driven channels that is making an effort to keep guitar fresh and alive. People need to stop shredding!
Keep up with the good work!
10 points to the person that google translates my Torpedo C.A.B. preset!
in english Is "f****g Rock"😆
Todo un crack Saludos 🎸🎸🎸🎵🎶
Man I love this channel. Great stuff!
Glad to hear it!
The sounds are really great!
Thanks! The Torpedo CAB loaded with my favorite IR really sounds good. Loving it
your tone is so JUICY!!!!! and RIFFs are very catchy
I would also suggest getting a non-guitar player to mess up all the knobs on your pedalboard. It's amazing how much inspiration is probably hiding behind settings you never change.
good idea!
Great video, great advice, great hair. Thanks!
Thanks! You should see my hair right now - not so great.
Awesome i wanted to learn how to do it, to expand my playing on tele;)
I really need to try one of those "firebird" style pickups in the bridge position on one of my Strats. Sounds great but also like it wouldn't be totally out of place with 2 single coils output wise. Another great video bro. Excellent advice. 👍
Thanks! Those pickups are really good. They go well with single coils yes!
Nr 5 is essential.
Make what you want to hear.
Does anyone know what the chords were in example 2? I couldn’t always tell which strings were being played as opposed to muted.
hey homie! would it be ok with you if I wrote a riff similar sounding to the one at 2:04 in a different key? credit will be giving :)
I wanna add one that has helped me a lot.. If you're used to writing riff in your room on a guitar (acoustic or comfortably volume electric) try sometimes to dim the light, put a spotlight on you, stand up, imagine a crowd an GO FOR IT!!! This will in 95% of instances make you simplify your riff, and make it sound more "songlike" (for lack of better words) instantly 🙂 (PS: where are you from, you kind of have a Scandinavian accent 🙂)
more!
Can you name some sad songs written in major scales?
Does your garage count 😁
The second riff is in drop D?
someones a josh homme fan
Lets start a band!
don't end the riff on the same note it begins with
Yup, that’s clever!
Good Work. But your voice is mixed too low.
