"Killer Whale" might have been a mistranslation from a more apt Spanish name that actually meant "whale killer". That being said, let's keep the ocean clean for heaven's sake... and hope that a more advanced species never decides to feed on us.
@@gerryiacovitti7254 I don't think he was condemning the orcas morally, just pointing out that the experience of being slowly exhausted and mutilated to death as you are trying to flee a pod of orcas is a shit way to go. Kinda hard to argue that nature often is a nasty and unpleasant business. It is morally bad that any creature has to die this way, even if there is nothing to be done about it. Nature evolved independently of concepts of good and bad, but that doesn't mean good and bad aren't legitimate concepts
So the fin whale not only had to deal with the Orcas but also a whale watching boat harassing it during the whole ordeal. Would have had a better chance to get away with out humans there to get in the way. At one point the boat was practically on top of the whale. Leave them alone people.
Felipe Leão Teixeira The thumbnail kinda looked like a Bryde's whale. They are the only whale that breaches straight forward and sideways. I think it was only there so the viewers could click the video. It made me but frankly I'm not upset. This was really interesting!
I kayaking at least three times per week and always I am with them, they are curious and they follow me, pretty cool, but when is a tiny one there, better go back to shore.
So where does the "spectacular predatory event" gets spectacular? great thumbnail though as clickbait... Judging from the amount of downvotes, you lot clearly need to ramp up your game and if anything, curb the clickbait tactics.
The truest apex predator in the ocean is the sperm whale. Nothing hunts a killer whale but conceivably a sperm whale could if they ever interacted (which they probably don't). Sperm whales hunt giant squid at the deepest depths of the ocean. Killer whales can kill great whites and there is video evidence of this fact. They are the wolves or lions of the ocean... teaming up to take on huge prey such as blue whales and fin whales, much as wolves take on caribou or lions take on elephants
Toby Holland sorry but your wrong. orcas have been proven to hunt sperm whales and interact with them as shown in this clip vimeo.com/64777458. if that link doesnt work google orca vs sperm whales and there is your proof. orcas own the sea.
mattxXx13 Well, animals can be cruel themselves. Some intelligent animals occasionally hunt for fun rather than to survive. They intentionally attack a animal and watch it died in agony before leaving the body to rot or get consume by others.
Believe me Evie.....they not playing lol. If they go too long without food they will also die...not one but all. Simply because they loose the strength to hunt. So, playing....NO!
I'm sure the unprofessional (and probably illegal) distance the boat was from the action, or should I say in the action/way as the bow rail is right above the fin whale in one shot, didn't help the fin whale maneuver as it might normally...
But the boat never touched the whale. Whales are strong, the boat would be far more likely to break than the whale. They crossed it's path, but it was submerged deeper than the draft of the boat when they did.
Killer whales are the largest dolphins in the dolphin family so with the largest brain it is safe to say that they are the smartest as well.Sharks on the other hand rely primarily on their Medula 0blongada for all of their intelligence which is not much by whale standards, but suited perfect for this primordial species. RsTwins100
***** if sharks are so stupid how did they survive that long then, they roam the seas about 16 million years now and they didn't even changed one bit. their brain might be small what you said but it doesn't mean they are stupid. if a person get attacked by a shark it is his or her own fault to go into their territory. sharks can mistake humans for other animals for example a big fish or a seal (if you are on a surfboard). humans are not on its natural food chain.
tyvonable Stupid vs adaptable or suitable are two totally different things. Crocodiles are amazing hunters and able to flourish in their environment for as long as there is an environment to flourish in. Like sharks, they are also dumb as shit by the standards of other species. Their brains offer them a specific means to survive and it works excellent. Yet they do not act with coordinated action or in-depth thought like dolphins and orcas. redragonfieldofgreen is absolutely correct.
John Davis mentalfloss.com/article/52130/6-common-myths-about-sharks-debunked www.sharksinfo.com/intelligence.html#.Uxm5iPRDvOE because they don't together doesn't mean they are stupid you know. a dolphin and killer whale are so dependable on each other that if they get alone they will easily die. which i find stupid while the shark don't even need to rely on other sharks to survive. sharks may look dumb but underestimating them is dumber. and if a shark wanted to eat a human it will do so but their are no records of humans being completely eaten, in fact they don't even eat humans.
Once again no thanks to the film crew that allowed this beautiful creature to perish so brutally. Clearly, as stated by the separated from life commentator, this majestic pure fin whale was contributing nothing significant to the caloric intake of these Orcas. The seamen were just looking for profit capturing this footage. They should have rescued this fin whale by using bull horns and getting close to the orcas and throwing hot sauce in their blow-holes. Even adding some elio's pizza or hot pockets to the water - throwing them at the orcas and screaming to them to divert their attention away from the fin whale. The hot pockets and elio's pizza would scare the orcas away as they are highly toxic and poisonous to any life-forms. They are very slow kill items though, so the orcas would just freak out and not be permanently harmed. If those things were done, the beautiful and pure precious fin whale shown in the video would have survived and lit the lives of countless other lifeforms on the planet. The world truly would be a better place. And the 13 orcas that shared half of its tongue in total meat won would have gotten along just fine killing large fish and using their whole bodies without unnecessary killing. F-You sea-people that invested your long periods of time capturing this without also helping this pure immaculate being - this fin whale in the video above.
This is called "Natural selection". You don't see National Geographic and Discovery interfering in animal affairs for a reason. Did you ever think about the Killer Whales in this situation? Let's say the film crew intervened somehow, and the whale happened to get away.. What if the Killer Whale's needed that kill to survive? and because the film crew decided to be "Hero", all those Killer Whale's died because of the film crew. It's the same case for every situation in the wild, It's best for us not to intervene.
Red Lol Did you even read my comment? Those orcas chase the whales 13 hours and all they eat is the tongue most times - in % of actual meat that equals .5% of available meat. So 99.5% of that beautiful majestic pure creature sinks to the bottom unused by the orcas. Not to mention, there were 13 of them! Orcas hunt for sport like humans do too... but you didn't hear that on tv or some random person. I figured it out by being critical of everything in a positive way. Your defense works in most cases, but not here. What the orcas are doing to this whale is what 19th century Americans did to the buffalo. As they crossed the country from east to west on their spiffy trains, they shot buffalo for the sport of it and didn't eat more than a flick of their meat when they got one near the next stop. Killing the majestic grey whale to consume 1/2 of 1% of it's meat divided by 13 animals is not hunting for need, it's hunting for sport. That's why you have to develop an independent mind, my friend. That's why regurgitating what you hear around you, repeated, isn't the best way to go. However, I feel that's a bit harsh because your position is right with most animal hunts; it's just that some animals hunt for sport too. Sorry for the harsh manner. Be well dear human. Also note, my comment was really aimed at humor in recognizing the futility in trying to save the whales in a comment, so I made it about something equally as horrific - human-made poisons in our foods - like the chemicals in hot pockets and elios pizza. I have never felt sicker than when I at frozen processed shit like that and I don't need a degree in who eats who's ass out best . edu to know that THAT FOOD IS EXTREMELY TOXIC when ingested lol. Anywho.. bye bye and don't eat processed foods unless you wanna end up like the grey whale with your tongue gnawed off under 2 miles of immoral bloodthirsty drunk rotting-inside filthy fishermen. :)
cooltoberaw Sorry for not being a Expert on the subject, lmfao. Saying that what i've said is based off of what i've seen or heard, isn't that the concept for learning? You said that Orca's hunts for sport and all these other "Facts", Where did you read that from, where did you hear that from? Where did you see that off of? My point is that you're stating facts that you've seen or heard. As for "frozen processed foods", No one really cares.
Red Lol, You're nice. :) Umm.. frozen foods as a category - a slow kill over time - my opinion based on research of synthetic chemicals in the ingredient lists and observations consumption produced. Yes, heated. About saying everything you know based on other people, I'm sorry, I was stepping on you to illustrate a point lol. I should not have assumed your sources but given the informality of this community, I just love to seize the opportunity to really express my initial reaction to things. I am crazy about independent thinkers and if it seems someone is taking a position that seems a strict copy of another's, simply because their source sounded hot, I just have to throw in my raw response. Maybe you came to your position on this specific whale event after analyzing the information of what happened, in which case, I would say that I think you are wrong and that my details listed in prev post point to sport hunting as we humans and many other animals do. It just sounds like you're standing on mountain, but you were helicoptered onto it and don't know the terrain with which to climb down. I may be wrong, but I'm calling you on it. In a friendly manner - see if you agree or disagree with what I'm writing here about the Orcas: When it comes to sport hunting I am strongly against it. That's why I commented here. It's ok to have a different opinion, I support debate. About Orcas hunting for sport, I actually read it in evidence first. There are numerous videos capturing Orcas hunting large whales and not even eating any of them. They never get a caloric return from their hunt that is worth the effort of chasing them for 10+ hours. Orcas are extremely intelligent creatures and know not to expend more energy on a meal than the meal with render it. I received agreement from a professor of marine biology at my university as well as heard the matter of sport hunting by Orcas in numerous documentaries about whales. blah blah, lol did you get this far? No offense bro - I hope you can see the facts and agree because I think they are very strong. Would you run after an elephant for 80 miles, just so you could, in the end, have half a bite of its tongue? Does this make any sense? Would aliens observing us feel conflicted because they knew we just needed that small bite of tongue to survive and that without it, we wouldn't have enough calories to survive? Or would they, being so smart to have traveled here, realize that you running 80 miles over 10 hours for 50 calories is absolutely insane and that you were hunting it for sport or just because you hated it. You're burning 300 times the calories you're gonna get once you get the elephant to stop running. So why are they doing it? Why do we do it? Why do primates do it? Lots of possibilities. Need for food's not one of them. Maybe the Orcas are threatened by the gigantic whales they kill because they have an inferiority complex. Defined:It is often subconscious, and is thought to drive afflicted individuals to overcompensate, resulting either in spectacular achievement or extreme asocial behavior. This is extreme asocial behavior. They're not hunting for meat, they're hunting for the kill. They know they can't even eat it because each time they kill one, it falls straight to the bottom and they can't/won't go to the bottom for it. If they really were hungry and desperate for the calories, they would as their team of 13, hold the corpse at a level they can withstand eating it, and take turns going up for air. But they can't/won't do that and they learn it reeeeeeal fast. It's a regular thing for them. All the evidence points to sport hunt. I don't want humans sport murdering, I don't want baboons doing it, and not even Orca whales. It seems to be a phenom that occurs only in species that have complex social groups. That says a lot about us humans and our tendencies to get ensnared in extreme slaughter of masses. Social psychology was always my favorite class. If you're interested have a look at what happens when you put any demographic in a group of 10 or more. The group always changes the individual to behave outside of their normal ways. g2g bye
Red Just to let you know killing buffalo in the Midwest had little to do with sport. It was mostly to drive out the Native people since there lives depended on it.
Humans are the top apex predator in the ocean. Not sure on this but have Great whites or Orcas ever hunted a species to the brink of extinction? Do Orcas keep Humans in captivity for their own fun? Do Sharks? Thought not.
Orcas, or killer whales, are not actual whales, they're very large dolphins. Their original name was "Whale Killer", because that's what they do. At some point, the name got switched around, maybe because they're bigger than some small whales.
Whales sink? You made that like a definitive statement. Usually whales float unless the body cavity is severely ruptured. Sharks sink, son. Being all full of cartilage and what not.
I don't' get this, Humpback is smaller than Fin, yet they fight the orcas from so many videos and articles that I read, which is why I love Humpbacks. This Fin is huge in the video, and not even a calf, it's almost an adult, probably a juvenile. I never understand animal kingdom, when some animals don't know they can be a threat to their attackers, yet they choose to panic and run, and exhaust themselves, eventually becoming a meal
I don't get it, I thought Orca pods only try to kill "calfs" because they don't want to mess with the adult baleen whales. However, this looks like a fully grown Fin whale, second only in size to the largest species, the Blue whale.
Wow, maybe someone with orca knowledge can confirm but I think this is the same pod as in another clip by BBC (posted below). Pause this animal wire video at 00:50, there is a large male on the left with a distinct dorsal fin. Is it the same large whale as the on in the BBC clip posted below? ua-cam.com/video/qPDZZj6By3Y/v-deo.html

When does the "VS." start?
Thumbnail: *Whale jumping out of the water*
Me: :D *CLICKS VIDEO*
Video: *No jumping whale*
Me: "Click bait taken to the next level"
0:42 nobody is talking about how that whale farted a rainbow out its head?????
So the fin whale not only had to deal with the Orcas but also a whale watching boat harassing it during the whole ordeal. Would have had a better chance to get away with out humans there to get in the way. At one point the boat was practically on top of the whale. Leave them alone people.
where is the fin whale jumping, like in the photo of the video
They had to cut all the good stuff out.
whats the point of uploading then?
News Flash the great white shark is not the top apex predator in the ocean.
But the great white shark doesnt have to hunt with others to catch its prey..
AlbertWesker2111 neither does an orca its just smart enough to realize its a tactically better approach.
Toby Holland sorry but your wrong. orcas have been proven to hunt sperm whales and interact with them as shown in this clip vimeo.com/64777458. if that link doesnt work google orca vs sperm whales and there is your proof. orcas own the sea.
it's one of the apex predators. Dolphins are apex predators yet sometimes get killed by killer whales and shark.
People are unbelievably fuckin ready to call animal cruelty on any video with an animal in it.
mattxXx13 Well, animals can be cruel themselves. Some intelligent animals occasionally hunt for fun rather than to survive. They intentionally attack a animal and watch it died in agony before leaving the body to rot or get consume by others.
KILLER WHALES VS. FIN WHALE
KILLER WHALES VS. FIN WHALE
Killer whales (or whale killers) should be control hunted to protect the (real) whales.
So many down votes... Are animals not allowed to eat?
pretty sure the down votes are because of the pic of the whales jumping out of the water...which clearly didn't happen in the video.
+MitchKelly its not the eating its often the playing with their food that annoys me
Believe me Evie.....they not playing lol. If they go too long without food they will also die...not one but all. Simply because they loose the strength to hunt. So, playing....NO!
Ricky Hunter yes they do play with their food if you notice how they toss a seal in the air before just eating it then you'd know what I mean
It would be nice if you didn't put a misleading picture on the video (a picture that has nothing to do with the video). Be considerate. Thank you.
The narrator has a horrible voice.
High five 👏 I was just thinking that
I'm sure the unprofessional (and probably illegal) distance the boat was from the action, or should I say in the action/way as the bow rail is right above the fin whale in one shot, didn't help the fin whale maneuver as it might normally...
Bad Orcas! I am so disappointed in you guys. I still love you though & will continue to fight for your freedom. :)
There is no good and bad in nature. Just survival.
I know :) I was just being funny.
Karen Aguayo :)
Karen Aguayo did you know you are insulting dolphins
Rasbahbrawl Anwar LOL. Yes, I am aware of this.
Oh no!!!! I hate when animals fight! I know that sounds ridiculous, but it’s sad.
Truly sad and I know it nature but still truly sad how Bunch hunts down one creature not fair 😔😔😔😔
Team work. Humans' fave one too, nes't pas?
Orcas are incredible! They are so intelligent.
Yeah, let's interfere with nature and stop something that's been happening since the dawn of life because we "feel bad"
We are nature too so why not?
@@lmatt88 lol!! Uh, no. Most of us lost touch with nature a loooooooong time ago.
It made a rainbow "honeydew aww" :D
Ship is WAY TOO CLOSE.
Neat. Everythings gotta eat! Thanks to whoever taped this:)
yea they could eat you next
Or maybe the whale was killed due to the wound it got by the boat 0:45
I think the boat broke its back.
The boat crossed the whale.
But the boat never touched the whale. Whales are strong, the boat would be far more likely to break than the whale. They crossed it's path, but it was submerged deeper than the draft of the boat when they did.
There is another video on youtube which the people people say that they boad hit the whale. And it is not a small bat, it is small ship.
It certainly could have hit the whale, but it definitely did not do it in this footage.
If it's backbone was broken it couldn't swim at all you medical douche-bag. It was only epidermal scarring.
they're not vsing each other, the orcas are hunting the whale. Quite a big difference...
Orcas are awesome.Just like wolves in the sea.
poor fin whale, Orcas are still my favorite mammal but it is sad that that whale died
but thats nature for ya :/
it's the man
the myth
the legend
0:43 rainbow
When the whale submerged, the ship went over it, and when it came back up theres no doubt it probally broke its back.
Как жалко такой красавый огромный кит. 😢🐳😰
Fin whale: F*ck off!!
Orcas: WE WANT FOOD!! WE WANT FOOD!!
سبحان الله وبحمده سبحان الله العظيم
Cool footage, but why employ a narrator with Trisomy 21?!
i don't know why i am so surprised by the absolute stupidity going on here in the comments.
After humans, Killer-whales are the most deadly creature. So the name is very fitting.
I think the underlying thread here is that Whales are social intelligent animals and sharks are thoughtless ,mindless trolls............!
You couldn't be more wrong. Sharks are one of the smartest creatures to live in the water besides dolphins.
John Davis mentalfloss.com/article/52130/6-common-myths-about-sharks-debunked
www.sharksinfo.com/intelligence.html#.Uxm5iPRDvOE
because they don't together doesn't mean they are stupid you know. a dolphin and killer whale are so dependable on each other that if they get alone they will easily die. which i find stupid while the shark don't even need to rely on other sharks to survive.
sharks may look dumb but underestimating them is dumber.
and if a shark wanted to eat a human it will do so but their are no records of humans being completely eaten, in fact they don't even eat humans.
Although informative here is yet another example of the video being far, far less exciting than what the thumbnail alleged and teased.
Different narrator is needed. This guy is crackly and awful.
Cool video, gets a dislike from me for that misleading thumbnail tho
سبحان الله العظيم
why does everyone dislike these videos?
In a friendly manner - see if you agree or disagree with what I'm writing here about the Orcas:
When it comes to sport hunting I am strongly against it.
At some point, the name got switched around, maybe because they're bigger than some small whales.
nomorokay they are both whales (toothed whales)
Whales sink? You made that like a definitive statement. Usually whales float unless the body cavity is severely ruptured. Sharks sink, son. Being all full of cartilage and what not.
I know some species sink, and if video specifically say it is NOT WORTH the effort it is clear that this species sink.
Yes, we all got jebaited by the thumbnail.
There are huge new prop scars on this whales dorsal area !
Where your cover picture came from? Misleading!
Orca is the true ocean apex predator
Not a lot to see here especially not the silly thumbnail clickbait.
Wanted to see a dynamic scene with a fin whale jumping with an orca. Newp.
Nicely narrated!
Now can we eat the Killer Whales? I'm hungry...
WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!
I don't get it, I thought Orca pods only try to kill "calfs" because they don't want to mess with the adult baleen whales. However, this looks like a fully grown Fin whale, second only in size to the largest species, the Blue whale.
probably an old one, otherwise they wouldnt stand a chance
Wow, maybe someone with orca knowledge can confirm but I think this is the same pod as in another clip by BBC (posted below). Pause this animal wire video at 00:50, there is a large male on the left with a distinct dorsal fin. Is it the same large whale as the on in the BBC clip posted below?
ua-cam.com/video/qPDZZj6By3Y/v-deo.html
They should of had cameras at the bottom of the boat. That's like seeing a pack of lions hunt a elephants. Team work.
wait you actually credited AND linked your source? thats crazy!
Am I the only one driven nuts by the narrator's inability to say the letter "L"?
Anyone else notice how they put the soundtrack in the corner and it was called “morning wood” ?
once a whale said : look who's calling us killler , humans , and whales almost Extincte of laughting
Why don't the other whales team up and fight back?
Because they’re gentle giants
Though their gentleness can still be powerful considering their mass. But still
best video thumbnail 2016
If you add the ghost godzilla sound for the fin whale it will be even cooler
Couldn't these whales just dive down and out swim the orcas?
Why does the narrator sound like Elmer Fudd describing a darker, more personal act?
Orca are actually a big black and white dolphin, not a whale. Whales don't kill each other.
can someone tell me what happens to orcas, dolphins when they become too old to swim. Do they just drown?
The problem is ORCAS are actually FASTER and work in tandem! You gotta give it up to ORCAS!!!
