    ► Our Website: mechaniclifesty...
    We took this video to show you how to replace the oil cooler seals on a mercedes ML430. It is very common leak for this model. They often start leaking after about 100,000 miles. The seals are not expensive. Less than $10 but could save you a new engine. They could develop very big leak.

    Great vid. I did this on my '99 W210 E55 (same for all M113 and M112 engines) This video is cool, but an added tip, if you unscrew the oil filter so air can get past, the oil drains out of the filter housing, back down into the engine. Then when you separate the oil cooler from the filter housing, no oil spills. Also to home mechanics be very very careful with the four bolts holding the cooler to the housing! Easy to drop, easy to cross thread! Finally, my o rings were so old the bottom round one came out in three pieces! My mileage is 204,500 miles roughly 440000km. Also there is a small cover on the timing cover just above the Accessory drive belt tensioner, which is a good source of leaks (mine leaked at 180000 milmes. There is also a gasket at the base of the oil filter housing which can also present an oil leak in a similar way. These leaks are hard to track as the oil hits the belt and gets flung all over the engine bay :-D

      1000% right the previous owner / person who worked on the car Cross threaded one of the bolts on the cooler!

      Wow that sucks. Did you have to replace the filter housing too?

    Gday from Aus boys, great vids. Straight to the point without the bullshit. Even as a mechanic myself, it really saves a lot of time to see HOW multiple vehicle are bolted together by the factories worldwide. Time equals $$$. Especially a leak like this... which looks like the front lefthand cam cover gasket when you 1st look..... and sometimes when you see the oil on the ground pouring out you shit yourself and thinks its the front main seal. Cheers guys.

    Appreciate it. Just changed a lower radiator hose that split. I added 2 containers of coolant. Now it's all but gone. No visible leaks. Any idea where it's going?

    hi great vid. i recently replaced the seals but ive noticed its been leaking from the same spot as before.What do you think might be the issue? maybe i didnt tighten up the bolts enough or do i have to replace the whole housing? thanx

    • @WorldMechanics
      @WorldMechanics  8 років тому +1

      +KING ESO There is another seal as well. It is on the bottom of the oil filter housing. If you remove the oil filter you can see there is a big nut. If you remove it there is a seal underneath the housing

      Maybe a call to MB to check their price would be in order. I'm sure aftermarket prices for parts is often less, but I got all 3 seals (2 oil cooler and 1 filter neck gasket) for $40 plus tax from my local (california no less) MB dealer.

    Great video, thanks eversomuch. my question is how much coolant drains out, and should I drain the expansion tank first? I have a method using a turkey baster to suck that reservoir dry.

  • @JohnDoe-hy1rj

    Hi, Great video. Have you ever seen it leak below the oil filter. Im buying the seal kit now, debating whether
    i should change the large seal below the oil filter. My belt is so wet with oil that it has been slipping off. Too messy to see where its coming from. I know I need a 46mm socket to remove the oil filter housing to get under it, any thoughts? Also should I replace the square timing cover and gasket? Mines an ML55 but same lay out. Thanks

    • @WorldMechanics
      @WorldMechanics  9 років тому +1

      Jenny M If you have the whole kit I will recommend to replace the square timing cover, the big ring and the two on the cooler. I actually replaced the seal on the timing cover today. I ordered the 46mm socket online and I will replace the big seal. All my seatls were hard as plastic. I would suggest to replace them all. If your belt is really wet then it is most likely the two seals on the cooler

    • @WorldMechanics
      @WorldMechanics  8 років тому +1

      +Alejandro Yanez Basically it is almost the same engine. If you have noticed oil on your bet then most likely it is from the oil cooler seals. It is very week spot on Mercedes with over 120K miles or 12+ years. How many miles are on your s55?

    • @alejandroyanez4520

    • @WorldMechanics

      Jay Stargroove all you will need to do is remove the bolts that hold it to the oil filter housing and unhook the hoses. It is not complicated at all.
