Even though older technology, the older ammo seems to have better craftsmanship.

The rapid evolution of specialty Turkey loads over the last few decades is pretty darned impressive. These circa 1980s "purpose" label loads were giving very decent performance from fixed full choke old school "huntin' guns" still heavily used that era. As refined as shotshells currently are, these decades old loads do show us that we did and could have reasonably decent ammo with a mixture of organic components in a hybrid sort of way. And yes, 11/2 ouces is a pretty brutal payload in a light shotgun. Winchester and others evolved to 1 5/8 ounces in 2 3/4" shells in an effort to wring the last bit of pattern out of those loads. Can't imagine shooting one of those out of a light single barrel.

We’ve shot 2 3/4 ounces out of extremely light single shots. It’s hard to hold onto lol.

That is really neat! I wish we could make the gas seal like that. Also extend the sides of that “bottle cap” say to 1 1/4” long and use on top side as a shot cup , 4 slits cut. The only issue I see is capacity restriction issues with thickness of sidewall

As a kid, we had Federal, Remington and Winchester shells available. As I remember, Winchester Super X was considered a premium shell.

That screenshot is giving me PTSD.. my buddie and I were shooting his single shot 1930s steel butt padded 12 gauge when we were 18 and we didn't realize there were different loads (besides buck, slug, and bird) for 12 gauge. We assumed it was just a bird shot load that he grabbed from his dad's gun safe. When I fired the gun I literally had to put my hands on my knees.. i even think a tear slipped out. It was bad. I assumed it was a regular bird shot load.... Not one of his dad's turkey loads. I had shot buckshot and slugs before ... but that turkey load out of that 5lb gun brought me to my knees. I still won't shoot those stupid things because it traumatized me so bad. I think there is still a couple of those shells sitting in my garage on top of the fridge.. sitting there for 10+ years. I will have to check if they got thrown out or not. I'll take a slug and buckshot over that monstrosity anyday! Love the channel. You always find the coolest rounds.

Through a light gun yes stuff like this sucks to shoot. Try them in a 7+ pound gun and they’re really nothing. We’ve got a 5.5 pound 3.5” 12 gauge single shot and have shot 2.75 ounce turkey loads at 1100 fps through it and man let me tell if you aren’t holding the gun right it’ll fly out of your hands. Basically shooting an old 4 gauge load in a light weight 12 gauge single shot lol.

I have shotshells that my dad bought in the late 50s , early 60s ( UMC, Eley, Fiocchi). They actually pattern as good or equal to todays high dollar over priced shells. The velocity may be the same as well.

Have you ran across any Active hulls?

That would have been a late season duck load prior to banning lead. Nobody really shot #4 at turkey's. I know, iwss there!

Could be used for either really. Would make a great duck load for sure
