      I lived there for 6 months in 2004. My host family had a pool which was great, and a few times I went to a movie theater and bought an Icee there. Otherwise, same as you guys - went out early and late in the day and kept out of the sun in the afternoon. 🌞

      Hola! Just came across your channel and love it! We live over in Valladolid and just recently started our own vlog. We also adjust our schedule so we are more active in the early AM and night and can either find a friend with a pool or head to the town cenote for an afternoon cool down.

      Keep windows closed, ceiling fans keep the house nice and cool. Lots and lots of water, staying hydrated is not an issue here. Guilty pleasure is in Harbor mall, great ice cream there, Amorino, you're welcome.

      I'm in the Yucatan and my advice is to look for a living space with thick walls surrounded by big old growth trees. The shade will keep your space cool. Also the movie theatre and shopping mall is always good for cooling off.

    We love Merida. This is our second time living here. We use all the ways you stated. One piece of advice I can offer is, when there is a storm, set your AC to the "Dry" setting to get rid of the humidity.

    GUUYYYSSS!!! I'm a recent, current Mexican subscriber of yours!!! I'm still learning English, and using your channel to accomplish that goal.
    I'm just like you and really like and admire you because of the fact of moving to my BEAUTIFUL country although I know we're not the country of the most widely open mentality about gay people yet (we have truly and currently a very open mentaly about this, principaly we young people, yes, but there's still a lot to do about that, and I, a gay, Mexican boy who born, grew up and live here is telling you this), or well, at least the oldest people, 'cause I ensure we youth are rapidly changing things completely up and we soon in a future together are going to be a better country where convivence between all kinds of people could be in perfect harmony!!! That's what I dream of and fight for. I want also to ask to you: How were you treated in my country?
    I love you for loving my country, and I ensure that if you made videos in Spanish (when you already speak it), would be loved a lot more, because we Mexicans love people who love our country and speak our language. Like we say here: *amor con amor se paga* (love is paid with love). *ENJOY OUR (my, your and everybody's) COUNTRY* and *feel Mexican*, because we think like *Chabela Vargas* (a Costa rican-born lady who moved to Mexico and was naturalized Mexican) thought and said: *"los mexicanos nacemos donde se nos pega nuestra rechingada gana!"* (We Mexicans born where we f***ing want!).
    A lot of kisses and success!!!

  • @crumbdav

    A few things. AC units that run from an inverter use far less energy than non inverters. Also, Merida's colonial homes are built like shotgun homes in the USA: a straight shot front to back. Along with the high ceilings, these both allow for better air flow and circulation. Also the orientation of the house matters: my house is oriented east/west. In the morning, the sun is shining in the front of the house, so everything is closed up there and I do my living in the back of the house. In the afternoon, it's kinda the opposite.

    Somewhat of a random compliment, but I SO appreciate your communication. I've watched so many videos where the couples incessantly talk over each other, or interject throughout the video which is so frustrating to watch. Hi, such a great video. I was suppose to-+ visit Palenque one year, in June! No less. It was so hot that I chose to stay in the air-conditioned van and take a nap while everyone else took the tour out there in the heat. It was a hot that I had never experienced before and I have experienced the Louisiana heat, the sugar cane country in the coastal lands of Guatemala heat, and the Houston heat --and Palenque was hot, hot, hotter than normal hot.

    You can say that again, Merida is really hot, I heard, read about it, but said to myself, I have lived in parts of Africa, and Southern Caribbean, where it is hot, I can handle Merida. Then I visit and I'm like, Nah! this is a different kind of hot. Thanks to you guys, I now know to set about my business early in the morning rather than starting the day mid-morning as I initially did. And I bathe almost thrice a day. Anything to stay cool. I really do not like air conditioners, so, although my place has one, I'd rather leave the windows open, fortunately, this place has lots of windows and there is cross ventilation. but I love Merida in spite of the mucho calor!

    Grew up in Miami and live in Atlanta now. I despise the heat.during the summer, I run all w errands early so I can be home in the AC by 10 am. I’m indoors all day. I love the seasons in GA (except summer). So…I wonder how long the summer weather lasts in Meridad. We have been doing a lot of research and it seems like a contender as we want to leave the US and move someplace cheaper and keep our marriage rights. My wife loves the beach while I like the mountains. But if it’s summer weather most of the year, I don’t think I’ll survive Merida.

    We have a Mercado here in San Antonio and when it's hot the aromas are...well, let's just say " thank goodness for masks!"
    Ice cold beverages in the pool is my remedy for the heat!

    I just found you two and think you're both fun and adorable! This video cracked me up. I'm a native New Yorker, who currently lives in Houston, and for sure the weather in H-Town is the worst, and the heat/humidity are truly suffocating. With that said, you have me convinced that I do NOT live in the hottest city in the Universe - nope! It's ...... M-E-R-I-D-A !!! And here I thought all the bragging rights belonged to me, LOL. My goal is to relocate to Mexico, and I haven't traveled to all its States - so I don't know where I will end up. Besides the heat aspect, Merida sounds very enticing!!

    Hey guys love your videos. I will be visiting Merida for the first time in late September 2021. I am taking the bus from Cancun, any suggestions on what to do in about three to four days there ??? as a solo male traveler. Sites to see , restaurants and area to stay in that is walkable.

    • @TravelWTravis
      @TravelWTravis  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks so much! That's such a broad question as there's tons to do, but we'd recommend staying in or close to Centro if you're only here for a short time, as most of the cultural events / activities are in that area. And the theyucatantimes.com is a great place to look for any events that are happening while you're here that might interest you!

    Like I mentioned in the past after 6 months of planning for Merida. The heat factor had me do a quick swivel to the Central region. Six months of staying inside, I did that in New England in the winter for years. Living alone would make that very lonely, I did that with 10 months in lockdown in Europe. I've lived in FL, NC, VT, MA, NH, CT, Tucson, Vegas, and other areas as well and none of those are even in the league of Merida 😩🥵🔥🔥🔥 ladies out there know how nasty soaking wet female undergarments are. 🤭🤐😮‍💨Today CDMX hit a high of 77 at 3pm and still good dog walking weather with the breezes. I'm exploring and deciding between CDMX, Querétaro, Guadalajara, and various central locations. I'm still awaiting the announcement of when you guys are moving up this way. 😉

    I went to Merida a few months ago to see if would be a retirement place for me. I love everything about it but the heat. My Hair! OMG. the humidity. I had to pass. Looking for another spot. I literally did all my errands in the morning and then I was in my plunge pool in the afternoon everyday. Im a California girl and I can take heat but I couldn't handle that. Lived in GDL and that was ok. But Merida! good God, I literally just sat and would be dripping in sweat. Bummed because I really wanted to live there. Glad you guys are doing it. I definitely would come back to visit, stay a short bit but cant handle anymore. How is the weather in Sayuleta? is it the same? cuz that place looked cooler.

    • @TravelWTravis
      @TravelWTravis  3 роки тому +1

      Haha yep, Merida can be bruuuutal! Sayulita was actually very hot and humid when we were there (which is why David bought a new shirt!) but not *as* bad as Merida. We were also there during one of their hotter/more humid months, so there’s that!

    Hi guys, quick questions. Do you guys have other expats friends in Merida? Do you guys live in a condo? I'm sure you you have made a video on this, but just have not gotten around to watching all of your vids. Also, I'm a homebody too so I don't mind staying at home most of the day.

    I'm wondering why someone coming from the U.S. who could pick any Mexican city/town to live in would pick one so hot. It must be better in some regards than other choices, so what makes Mérida the place to be even with this heat issue?

      The safest in Mexico, the second safest in all the Americas, it is also among the most affordable cities to live in. Close enough to gorgeous historic places/mayan archaeological sites, wonderful natural beauties, and it has the convenience of having an international airport and close enough to Cancun airport, the second busiest in Mexico.

    Thanks guys on another great video. My husband and I reserved an Airbnb next spring. It has one AC in the bedroom. He said it’s enough. I want more in the house. However, since we’re considering moving to Merida in 4-5 years I figured if we can survive being there at the hottest time, with one AC, we will be Ok living there.

    I live in Monterrey and you know the north of Mexico is known for being really hot in the summer and it is here in Monterrey the heat is also strong specially in the months of July and August like we are right know but starting the month of September it starts to cool down a lot and in the winter it does get pretty cold ; like 0 degrees celcius. This year we got to -10 degrees. Its really extreme the weather in here but i prefer this than being hot 10 months out of the year.

    Hey Guys! Love the channel. The drinks from the mercado look refreshing. I spent a month traveling Mexico in May/June. Merida was my 2nd to last stop. Loved the city, but I believe that is where I got "food" poisoning from water or ice in a cocktail in Pregresso. I was very conscious throughout my trip on water consumption, but narrowed it down that location. Are you concerned when consuming beverages at a mercado or other open area vendors?

    • @TravelWTravis
      @TravelWTravis  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Kevin! That's a bummer you got sick in Progresso - we've only had one instance of what we think was food/water poisoning in a year, which is about the same as we got back in LA (and that was in Tulum). We're not too concerned with drinking things from the mercados though - so far, so good!

    We went to Ciudad del Carmen a few years ago just after Christmas visiting my spouse's relatives. Ciudad del Carmen is down the road from Merida past Campeche, as you likely know. We were there for a few days and each day it was in the 90s. It was hot. At Christmas. So, it can sometimes get hot even outside the spring and summer seasons.

    I'm this close to buying my ticket for Merida but the heat is making me pause. I visited in April and I was not happy and I come from the Caribbean. CDMX seems to be a hit but I get the city vibes from there and I don't want that moving from NYC. I want cool air and mountain views along with Uber! With the beach a drive away. What state of Mexico fits that description? Help!
