Just got selected to fly chinooks for the GA National guard. Definitely right about everyone has doubt in the back of there minds because there is so much that’s out of your control. Main thing like you said though is keep going through the steps
Your videos are awesome man! I’ve been following you since I started the process last September and I checked into WOCS yesterday as an aviator. Definitely would love to help you out the way you helped me!
@@merrittorius congratulations Marine!! Served INFANTYR from 1982-1986. My son is considering putting in a packet. Currently a Jr in college but I think he was doing that for my benefit. PLEASE keep posting these videos and good luck at WOFT. Look forward to seeing the journey OORAH!!
Awesome video, have been watching these videos since starting my aviation journey. The WOFT app process for street to seat has been a long process. Currently waiting for Fort Rucker to stamp my physical. The flight surgeon approved me at fort Stewart with no medical issues but apparently Fort Rucker must stamp the physical for me to proceed. I've been seeing that wait times is anywhere between 4-6 weeks. It has been 4 weeks now with no update. Do you remember what the turn around time for Rucker to approve your flight physical was?
@@merrittorius I called the flight physical office at Fort Rucker and they have turn around averages of 3-4 months right now.. lol so I guess we will see
Thank you for addressing my question in your video! All your videos have been helpful. As you know there is very little information out there on how to do exactly what we are doing. As previously mentioned my journey has been a bit different as a street to seat guy going Guard. I have been told this whole time by recruiters that what I was going for would be a long shot not being previous military and going Guard. I was talked in to going 15T first but continued to push for WOFT. And sure enough got selected by the board. Update I am working on getting my flight physical done! Yes I got selected before even getting my flight physical. They are trying to get me as a 09W. Just as you stated AIT would be a waist of time. However getting a flight physical for me has been a huge challenge. The resource here are very limited and no one will take a civilian to get one done. It looks like what I’ll be doing is getting the paper work and completing a check list of things I need to complete on my own. Currently we are seeing if they can take anything I have already done at MEPS and apply that to my flight physical. But this is all I have left to do before I sign on the dotted line.
Dude, what the heck are they doing on the medical? I was a straight civilian. All my people had to do was schedule for for a class 1 flight physical (at a local Army Camp). Like, even if you have to drive a few hours, they should be able to schedule it. You going place to place is crazy, ESPECIALLY if they've selected you. I'm a little frustrated that's the way they're handling that for you.
I did the process in 1981 after USMC helicopter crew chief/mechanic. No internet, recruiter was not interested in pushing the application. I was surprised when I got a class date for April 82, graduated Mar 83.I ended up doing 2 tours as an IP at Rucker (85-89 & 91-94) and almost every class had 2 former Marines! I think the Army knows the track record. I never saw one Marine flunk out I retired in 98 (CW4) and did another 22+ years as a DoD contractor. It was a great ride but covid killed it for us over 55 years old. I hope you get accepted!
Thank you sir!! Loved hearing about your experience and I have no doubt doing it earlier without all of these resources was more challenging to say the least. Flight school starts early next year. I'll be done with WOCS soon. I appreciate your many years of service and the encouragement from you in here.
@@merrittorius Great to hear that you are in the pipeline. Back in 82, we stayed candidates all through flight school and had to play the game with demerits and rolling our socks and underwear! Getting out of the barracks on weekends was the best advice ever. The "hey you" roster always hit on Friday nights or Saturday mornings. I spent every weekend at the Daleville Inn!
I am currently a private pilot for fixed wing aircraft. I am in the process of joining the Army’s WOFT program. Is it true they have fixed wing slots? Thank you.
Curious to what happens next? Everything has been completed. I’m assuming next thing is contract and swearing in!? How long did that take for you after you had everything ready to go? And is that when you got dates for trainings? Do they schedule out all your trainings back to back, or are they just getting you in to your first one. Thank you! your feedback is great as you have always been a few steps ahead of me.
Yes, you will take the oath and get enlisted. From there, It's state to state if you're guard. They have me on the schedule for a couple different blocks of the training. WOCS etc.
Did you have a VA disability rating that you had to work your way around prior to getting picked up? I got a 90% but considering dropping a WOFT packet.
@@merrittorius i appreciate you replying. Finding info on joining with a VA disability rating is a little difficult. Seems like not very many people decide to go back in once out with a rating and even less decide to document it. It’ll be cool if you could make a video on it or maybe if I could ask you some questions offline…either way, I appreciate what you’re doing…it’s helping a lot of folks out.
@Reapers350z Just to be real Reaper, once I decided it wasn't a big deal to get things moving with regards to the disability. It was simple for me and the recruiter but my medical issues are somewhat minimal
Hey man! Very similar situation here I’m about to be 37 and in the guard currently. I’ve reached out to surrounding states and it looks like I may have to transfer states. What state are you in? What kind of questions did you get and how did your board process work? I’ve been around aviation for 16 years now and have 1000+ flight hours in the back. Ready to move to the front seat! Above the best brother!
I just l recently started the process of transitioning. Have my conditional release paperwork being routed up. I’m a 1 year SSGT in the USMC and have not yet completed my PME. Will having my PME cert make me more competitive?
It will. They liked my degree. Anything formal past the high school level is positive. Just make sure you communicate it in language that transfers to the Army. Find an equivalent certification to make it relatable. Let me know how it goes. Hope your command backs you and all of that.
I just got selected as a usmc Sgt with just Sgt school completed and no prior aviation experience or college. Going out of your way to Find a senior warrant for a LOR, writing a solid resume, and summary is going to be what the board focuses most on your packet. Meritorious’s videos helped me a lot with building my packet.
I took the ASVAB in 2003. I was fortunate to get the education I needed to get above the 110 GT score (112😄) just from my high school studies. That score was sufficient for my packet submission in 2021.
Question? I’m sure I’ll find out once I see my contract but I’m curious to what the pay scale is for 09W? Do you know? Or how do they have it set up for you while you go through WOCS!? Before you graduate as a CW1 and then your on that pay scale!?
E-5 Equivalent is what I am. I was an E-5 in the Corps though. It could vary depending. If you're a civilian I think its E-5 though. To clarify its "WO1". "Cheif" doesn't come in until you pin 2.
I'd like to talk with you personally because I'm going through the same deal you are. I'm prior mil and I'm getting ready to drop a packet myself. Please let me know how I can contact you. What's your aircraft wish list? I wonder how the aircraft selection process works
Hoping to fly 60s or C12s. Selection is based on performance in training and needs of the army/units.
I am currently a private pilot for fixed wing aircraft. I am in the process of joining the Army’s WOFT program. Is it true they have fixed wing slots? Thank you.
They do. They are HIGHLY competitive if you're active duty and if you're Guard your state would need to have the empty slot and want to add you to it.
