This is quite possibly the best song the Monkees did. Peter sang great on this and it's great to see them. Rest in peace, Davy. I'm also glad the Monkees were finally inducted into the pop music hall of fame as they deserve it. All four were and are very talented and funny guys. Always love the Monkees.
Thank you for sharing this. I must have watched it over a dozen times since Mike's passing (Dec.,2021). You can tell they enjoyed doing schtick as much as singing together. In January of 2022, with only Micky remaining it's funny and sad and beautiful all at the same time.
This has been my favorite Monkees song since I first heard it in 1967 (at the age of 10) - I had no idea that Peter could play the French Horn - I used to play the French Horn -- anyway, it's very moving to hear them sing it now -- thanks so much for posting this.
Karen Bulger I was 8. First albums. Talked my mom into the night before my birthday and went shopping with my dad on my birthday. Dad couldn't turn his little girl down on her birthday. Was my favorite song.
Of all the great songs the band did, I think this is the most poignantly performed and is a moving tribute to these great artists!!!! RIP DAVY, MIKE AND PETER!!!
What Davy didn't have in height he sure made up for it in Talent... Both musically and as a comedian! Miss you both Davy and Peter together now in Rock and Roll Heaven. Rest In Peace... And thank you for all the love you shared...
I will always love these guy's..thanks for all the good memories 💝 so funny when Peter touched Davy's hair..and when Micky and Peter pointed to Davy when they sang who was the foolish from the wise..you can see they really enjoyed performing together and were brothers to the end
Just came up on my feed...still one of my top 5 fave songs from The Monkees! 1st fave: Some Time In The Morning. All of them are still going strong on my CD players!
12/31/23 I absolutely adore that song.Watching the late, great Peter on the French horn, and the late great Davy singing makes this video anyearjerker.Micky has one he'll of a hard mission keeping the Monkee legacy alive. He has done a great job, he has made Davy, Peter, and Mike proud.
Peter always the witty one. If they only knew how valuable and wonderful thuscsing us fir what's going in in the world now. Thsnk you for the memories and keeping it real.
'...i remember when the answer seemed so clear...We had never lived with doubt or tasted fear' (Truly timeless.. partial quote.. ) from 'Shades of Gray'
Saw them in my hometown Cardiff - Wales 🏴 on this tour in 2011, and I loved it. I loved Peter he was my favourite. 😢 Peters brother Chris who was a painter and graphic designer lived in Cardiff not far from me died in 2015 and Is laid to rest near Cardiff, it’s a small world and very sad times 😞
As a little girl I was in love with Davy Jones. Decades later, I'm in love with Mickey Dolenz. He aged so well and what a beautiful voice he always had. I feel his soul on these UA-cam videos. I feel him as a joyful and grateful person. Always grateful for his Monkees gig.
They were rich and famous and loved, and yet first Davy and then Peter and then Mike all died, and now in 2023, only Mickey Dolenz, who started out in Circus Boy when both he and i were young, is still alive. Carry on Mickey, for as long as you can. You are a very talented man, and the last Monkee.
Less than a year later, Davy would be gone. Been a fan since the very beginning. Every time a piece of my childhood leaves, it takes a big chunk of me with it. RIP guys, we miss you!
This song came in my head today.... And I agree with you... Every time a piece of my childhood leaves... It takes a big chunk out of me also. GREAT MUSIC
omg , they still had it in 2011 I love at the during the song and end of the song they start messing around, , RIP Davy, and Peter... and though Mike wasnt there yet, RIP Mike, the saddest thing is the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame never inducted them when Mike rejoined the band. The Monkees were part of my childhood and only tears of joy. fill my eyes thinking of them.
G-d bless Cynthia Weil...The creator of the Monkees Bob Raefelson told Mike " any 4 guys could have done what you guys did:..Mike, who was probably the least comfortable with his status as a Monkee got his back up and straight on told him, "no you couldn't. We brought the force of our 4 personalities"..People can say what they want...IMO whenever I feel down or beset by this or that, I only have to watch a Monkees video, listen too a song or read an interview, and, wout fail, I feel better...I love Mike, Peter, Micky and Davy-always have, always will...
They just got better but I really love this song. This was a Wonderful performance. Pete sang out of tune but boy he could play any instrument. Everyone was so talented
Peter you dirty old man, stop chasing those younger women!! lol Peter protecting his French horn from grabby Davy. Aw, you meanies quit picking on Davy. Peter sounds so much better now than back in the day. Was this at the Tacoma Dome? My husband was stationed in Ft Lewis in the mid '90's.
Loved the Monkees but Peter's voice was unique in a great way.
I'm 73 years now and this song is the most important to me after all these years...

I can see why. I’m 10 years younger than you and I can only imagine the shades of gray you’ve seen. -Terri ❤️
I am sure...this is their best song❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This is definitely one of the best songs of the Monkees. 👍

Especially now that Davy and Peter are gone. RIP guys. You are missed.

Pete sang great here and I think he must've had lessons between the beginning and going live later
Headquarters is such a great album. I love how they got to be more themselves, more their own style and shows on the album
