There is another item that needs to be changed, particularly for the first oil change. It's the Dual Clutch Transmission filter which is done every 7500 miles. Check your manual.
Hey man! 88 dollars and changing it yourself is far cheaper than any shop can manage. And peace of mind. You have no idea how many times I passed a jiffy lube and seen a oil trail leaving the shop and sometimes a oil filter laying in the road near one.
My method exactly LOL I did change from cardboard to a drop cloth with a plastic backing that way I didn't have any oil stains if any spilled out. Oh and nitrile gloves help a lot
thanks and very informative and shared this info to a corvette club in my province, as some one stated a dealership charged C8 corvette owner $360 bucks for same service and good way to save money by doing it yourself.
Nice dude nice! Awesome video! Couple things I have learned doing oil changes over the years: 1) Get those rubber gloves janitors or commercial cleaning staff use. Keeps your hands completely clean, they are gold. 2) I actually take the fill cap off first before draining out the oil. Its an old habit based on a presumption that air pressure coming down through the fill cap will help out oil flow. I am probably full of crap there lol. 3) I also started using a wide tub and then using that to fill a tall gas can looking thing because those pans similar to what you had in the video always broke on me. It was frustrating. Plus with the narrower trunk situation we have in the C8, probably better to do that than a wide pan to transport to your local parts store. I am glad you pointed out the difference between the European and Dexos2....many people are mistakingly buying the wrong type. I have ramps too currently, but I am stocky and my head is huge so I barely have clearance underneath my lowered Camaro right now. I plan on getting quickjacks finally for the C8.
Normally I would agree but good Rhino ramps are plenty safe if you put car in park and apply e-brake manually. Also ALWAYS BLOCK FRONT WHEELS WITH PROPER RUBBER CHOCKS.
thet happened to me once, forgot to open the release cap 🤪 you can imagine. it overflowed 😆 I love that they still use spin on oil filters not the canister trash.
Thanks for the free tutorial. I had a similar experience while changing the oil on my 1as. Now I make sure the lil red cap is off before draining. I'm glad you didn't make a mess.
TY for the video 👍👍 There where several important items you left out. 1) Use a torque wrench to tighten the drain plug. Per GM the torque spec is 18 ft lb 2) When tightening the oil filter turn it until you feel resistance. Then turn it 3/4 of a turn, no more! Any tighter you risk not being able to loosen it next time. Less than 3/4 it will leak
Thank you. May want to check but I found oil on either amazon or ebay I don't remember, 6 quarts for $55 with a AC Delco filter the right one. And free shipping. That was cool didn't even need to run to the store. Don't you just love the sound! Again Thank you for the video.
@@pamelabenskin1761 why what’s wrong with it ? I just got a message about 2 weeks ago telling me I’m #4 now. So praying I take delivery by this summer . I hope yours get sorted out .
Matt, love this video. Just got my 2024 C8 this week. When I was younger I always did my own oil changes. I think I’m going back to doing it myself as they are insanely charging so much to do them now and you showed how easy it is to do. Questions: Do you have a link for the oil drain pan you used and the ramps? How to you take the oil out of the pan and what do you do with the old oil? When I was a kid we always pour it down the storm drain or into the grass if you believe that (can’t and never should do that anymore!j. Also is it really a good idea to back your car in the garage and have it running for the carbon monoxide fumes that can kill you (I don’t think so!)
1) Good clear and concise video, close call on the vent of the drain pan (realism) 2) A corvette dude (self included) fills the oil filter with NEW oil before installing it.
Guy’s just a heads up I contacted Exon Mobil and they said you need a M1-114A filter. It has a higher bypass pressure. He said the M1-113A has too low of pressure bypass and won’t filter oil.. also you should use Mobile one Super Car oil made especially for the Corvettes.
Thanks for the demo video. probably try doing this with mine tomorrow, ..it will be my first attempt. . let me know if you have any other tips that weren't mentioned in your video.
It'll most likely be another week yet. But I was happy to notice those ramps you used. I already have the same ones & wasn't sure if they'd be okay for the job. Do you know if it properly drains enough of it's dirty oil with only the back end raised?
@@RWDC8Z All went well today. I had to go with Mobil 1 0W-40 "SUPERCAR" oil And my GM dealership OEM filter also had the 8 holes like your Mobil 1 filter.

nice job. without looking it up, can you tell us how often should the transmission be changed, is 60 to 100,000k sound right, and is this something a "shade tree mechanic" do it? also, do you have a vid showing the DCT oil change?
I have the same ramps. You should use a couple jack stands under there loosely as a little extra protection. Don't bet your life on Chinese ramps. Just my 2 cents. Thanks for the videos.
excellent video use ramps and block front wheels for safety as he does-very important as you will be under the Vett in the middle of car. I have done 4 changes on my c8 but would like to add in march 2021 nobody but Amazon had the proper oil. Also be carful on using aftermarket oil filter as chevy has a distinct by pass that they use on the LT2 engine. Another thing is O-rings are not available you have to buy a complete drain plug for about $21 bucks so you might want to have one on hand incase you need it while doing the oil change. And for God's sakes do not use the European 0-40 oil it has to be ESP oil now called SUPER CAR OIL ON THE MOBIL 1 OIL 0-40 Amazon is about $57 for a 6 pack of oil.
Have your brakes faded at all on the track. Have you bled the brake fluid yet on your own? Wasn’t sure if that was possible due to another video I saw from corvette conti that showed him having to have the dealer electronically disable the booster and unplug fluid level sensor and battery before the brakes could be bled! At least the oil change is simple!
Last oil change the dealer had the Incredible Hulk, Superman, or the 6 million dollar man put the oil filter on. I literally broke my filter removal tool trying to get it off. Now it's back to the dealer for another oil change.
No matter what your dealer, friends, UA-camrs or the dashboard tells you, never go over 5000 mile between oil changes. Oil is cheap, main barring's, pistons and rings are not.
Nice video At 63 years old and retired. I said. It’s time to get the corvette. It’s on the last of the 2024 assembly line. . My oil changing days are behind me. My ramps are gone so i am going to have to find a tech I can rely on. Can’t be the dealer im getting at because New Hampshire is too far for service. But not far for the best price to purchase . Not sure if every chevy dealer has specific tech for Vettes. Does anyone know? Thanks 😀
I think it’s not much more than the oil price he paid for.My Camaro SS came with 2 free oil changes. I think the C8 should as well. I’m wondering how much they charge.
Hey man! I have a friend with a C8 highest trim and it looks so damn gorgeous. I was wondering if I could use the LIQUI MOLY TOP TEC 4110 oil since the Germans make amazing oil but it’s 5W-40 which is similar to 0W-40 and it has the GM dexos2 oil spec. LIQUI MOLY surpasses Mobil1 in every way and I really wanna use it on his car but it’s his car and I don’t wanna cause any damage. Maybe you’d know something that I don’t but I do remember seeing that the new 2020+ LTs can use 0W-40 and also 5W-40 but it HAS to be GM dexos2
Thanks man! finally doing my first oil change on the c8. great paced video
Congrats on getting it back! I’m excited to see what you do with it!
If you don't have a funnel cut the bottom off the first bottle you use and use it as a funnel.

Do you void the warranty by doing the pile change yourself?
Nope
Amsoil 0-40 is compatible.

Wrapped lime green
Does it matter if the car is angled up like that? To get all the oil out?
It should probably be level
