This was a huge help. I actually had to run a bolt through to get the rotor off, and it worked faster than anything I've ever done for a stuck rotor. Thanks a lot.
Thank you so much for this, recently got myself into a good set of tools to do all of my maintenance work again on my vehicle. After watching this and a few other videos to refresh my memory I mustered the courage to go for it. A full tune up later, thank you for sharing your experience with us. 🤘🏼
Very good video, the only thing I did different was to use one of the old brake pads, put it against the hydraulic cylinder and used a "C" clamp to squeeze the cylinder back slowly, also take the cap off the Master Cylinder to allow any air to exhaust when retracting the cylinder.
Oh...sh#,t.... So am I going to have to bleed my brakes? I don't have anyone to help me.. Wont you get air in your brake line the second you take the cap off?
@@mocservices7526 no you’ll only have to bleed the system if you open a valve at the caliper piston itself. Otherwise you’d be fine just pushing the piston in. It should be noted that this method is not recommended because of risk of damaging the master cylinder. But I’ve never had an issue.
than you for making the best video on this! I just changed both my brakes and rotors for the first time. I had my dad watch me and he was impressed how much the video helped especially with getting the rotor off.
Thanks! I have a Scion Xa and your instructions were right on for that model also! However, only having 80,000 miles on the Xa I did not change out the rotors. Next time. :).
Tallt, THANK YOU!! The Toyota dealer said it was $460.00 just for the brakes and rotors. I purchased the brake piston toll (Lang) that rachets back the piston and the rest of the job was easy. Thank you!
Ah, to live in a salt-free world. Both of my dust shields are now rust shields. Chunks of brown crumbles on the ground after tapping on the knuckle. Seriously, thank you for noting the wear indicators. Mine had rusted off long ago.
I can scarcely believe you spelled 'break' twice and never bothered to correct it. Brakes are not especially complicated, but it's nice that you provided a demo video.
Its best to clamp off the caliper hose and open the bleed port when you squeeze the piston back, because forcing fluid back thru the master cylinder is not a good idea, this could in fact damage the master cylinder. Put a hose on end of bleed nipple into a old container like a pop bottle to catch fluid and piston will actually squeeze in much easier. Also because some people add brake fluid as brake get low pushing back on the piston with a full reservoir full of fluid will cause brake fluid to spill out all over the place if you push it back thru the master cylinder.
well said, I would add from personal experience, you can damage a proportional valve or anti-brake modulation system, .... just push the piston with a c-clamp no risk to rubber boot and open that bleeder screw. fyi
You didn’t grease the slides man haha I know how to do the brakes just needed to make sure nothing was different. Same exact procedure as a 2001 jeep Cherokee front brake change.
Good overall beginner veiw but incomplete. You should always take out the slide pins clean them and the caliper and regrease them. Also should use caliper lube on an parts with metal to contact aFter cleaning those areas and make sure the pads slide easily. Avoids squeaks and premature wear of pads and rotors. I was looking for tourque specs though anyone know them?
Make sure to pump the brake before moving the car to put pressure on brake system also removing the brake fluid cap when pushing the caliper piston in makes it way easier and last note don't take advice from this guys video he did a lot of in correct steps that can cause damage and faster failed to your brake systems.
I look forward to seeing your video. I am no pro by any stretch and I am sure I made mistakes. I am always willing to learn something new. I will say my brakes are still doing just fine so I couldn't have screwed up too much.
+tallt66 yea not trying to me a dick brakes are the most important part of the car stoping is super important so I'll share some great tips a tricks on this to help you and others out I'll post a link to the video in the comments.
I watched a bunch of tutorials and I gotta say yours was very well informed and showed step by step made the work a cinch Ty
Wow. Thank you so much for this video. These are the most comprehensive instructions that I’ve seen on here.
You are welcome!
This was a huge help. I actually had to run a bolt through to get the rotor off, and it worked faster than anything I've ever done for a stuck rotor. Thanks a lot.
Thanks so much. This video was very helpful and gave me confidence to do the work myself, and save a few hundred dollars too

Great video! I am going to change my brakes and rotors tomorrow. Thanks, Tall Tom!
hey appreciate the video, going to be working on my friend's xB next week. Mentioning the wrench sizes was SUPER helpful
This, so many people are without tools going DIY with little to no information on what tools to buy for the job. Very very helpful!
Thanks for the video! My son's been driving around with brake pads in the glove box for months.
Eric Bennett I'm glad it was helpful.
just one more reason why i love my box, the car is so easy to work on, thanks for the video bro
Thanks for the details. I was able to change out my daughter's 05 Scion XB front brakes (rotors and pads).
That's awesome! I'm glad that this helped you!
Very helpful i got a scion xb and yours instructions is very detailed thanks
Awesome video. I have confidence to do my own brakes on my XB now. Thanks
You are welcome, I hope it went well!
Really appreciate you taking the time to make this video! Very helpful!
You're welcome! I'm glad it helped you. Nothing like seeing something done step by step to give you a boost in confidence about doing a project.

This is a really well done video. Worth my time and very helpful!
Devin Howard thanks! I'm glad it was helpful!
Hey! Thanks pal! Really a super service.
You are welcome!
Thanks for your post. Very well explained

Thanks, been putting this off for a while
Thanks Tall Tom just finish changing my son front brakes on 04 Scion XB.. your video HELP so much 👊🏼
Thanks mate I really appreciate these videos.
Thank you for posting! Extremely helpful!
You’re the man brotha
Awesome video. Very informative. Thank you.
Thanks, I am glad you found it helpful.
Thank you ! I was stuck after putting the new break pads since i was unable to close it back. Thanks !!!!
glad found your video. I'm changing the rotors of my 06 box with 160K miles ASAP

Seriously, thank you for noting the wear indicators. Mine had rusted off long ago.
Thanks for the tip. Looks pretty easy
I'll do mine tomorrow. Thanks!!

Pipe down, dork.
+speeta I bet you are fun at parties.
great self made video!
Thank you, it was fun to make and I hope it can help others that have not done this before.
do u have any instruction vids on rear brakes. I enjoyed the front brake video. very good instructions
Thanks! Very helpful!!
Thanks for this video sir
Doesn't the driver side rotor have a retaining nut to hold the rotor in place that needs to be removed?
very informative! thank you for sharing! =)
Your welcome!

Do the brake lines need to be bled for this process?
+Kelly Goerbig No, you just need to compress the calipers back in first to make room for the newer, thicker pads.
I have a 2008 Scion xB , are there any differences between the 2006 and the 2008 as far as the brake pads changing goes ?
Is this the same for a 06 XA
I'm finally doing this job. I was hoping he'd mention the torque for the bracket to knuckle bolt..........I think it's 65 ft. lbs.
Was able to avoid a trip to the brake shop.
turn the wheel next time to get easier access to the bolts on the caliper
I change my rotors and pads and the passenger side is scrapping on the caliper.
No criminals came by the whole time. :( I guess that's why this vid is categorized as comedy :D
I'd put some anti-seize on the back of that new rotor.
Bro I'm going to do this tomorrow I'll make a video to show you the correct steps to do this with out all the fight

Still waiting for that video bruhh. Since you know so much more.
I take my rotors to Oreilly's to have them resurfaced. They only charge $10
Do not use rachet in loosening bolt, and apply shock whenever you loosening bolt..
Yeah. Breaker bar and a hammer. If you have room, using a cheater tube is sweet.
Try some lubricant before taking off parts
I don't know
