May God bless you man. You actually sound like you genuinely want to help. We need more people like you in this world. Thank Man.
Theres a second, upper power steering bolt besides the one he shows that lets the pulley pivot in order to get the new belt on. Just loosening the one he shows is didn't allow any movement of the pulley for me at least, and I found out too late; Because I took a "tip" from another video & just cut the old power steering belt off thinking it would allow forward/backward movement of the pulley to get the new one on (after I loosened the lower bolt in the pulley shown in this video and nothing) It was only later I found pictures online showing the top bolt. The problem with mine is that that top bolt is rounded off, so now I have to try to weld a new nut onto it if I ever want to get the new power steering belt on. And now I realize why when I paid TireMan $100 to replace "both belts", that it appeared they only replaced the alternator belt (which I only realized recently, and is squealing when I turn the cabin fan on). Hope this helps someone
I really appreciate the heads-up that I was racking my brain on why this was not moving
Thanks for the tips. Gonna replace mine right now
You,are”the Man”,thank you!
Thank you sir, need to do some work on my girlfriend's car and this will come in handy.
Excellent instructions, you do have to get covers out of the way & spaces are tight under that side of the gen 1 motor
Technically you're supposed to insert the adjusting bar between the engine RH mount bracket and generator, push the bar towards the vehicle front to adjust the belt tension.
I appreciate the help your video afforded me.
Thank you Bro for this update now off to the same project 💪Pray for me that I don’t have any left over parts 🤞🥺😉
Thank you!
You sound kinda like Coulson from Agents of Shield.
Several of my dash lights are on But everything is working fine , How do I get those to go off
I would google the light combo to see what is happening also you can get a OBD-II dongle on Amazon/Ebay for like 10 bucks that give an amazing amount of info. Good Luck!
I don't know why you even bothered to make this video without showing the actual work it took to get that bottom alternator bolt. I bet you didnt even do it yourself. 🤡🤡🤡
On the alternator bracket, there is a bolt hole between alternator & Top bolt. Put a bolt in and then you have an appropriate pry bar location and no plastic parts get damaged, if you make an error with long screw driver in stead of pry bar. Then take out bolt for the next time - hope it is a long time in the future...
Glad someone noticed that to let him know for the next time
Once again... great video. Basically "Here's the 12mm to loosen to belt one and the 14mm to loosen for belt two." I did both belts... seemed silly not to. Couldn't ask for a better set of instructions and warnings.
Hey! Trick I learned: about midway on the arm that holds the alternator there is a hole. It is there for mounting a ….oh ….let’s say 1 1/4” bolt facing toward the engine compartment that can then be used to lever against to move alternator easily and safely with a screwdriver or other tool. Thanks for your video…very clearly shot and helpful! Cee
Put an 8mm bolt on the whole shown at 6:22 and than you can pry on the alternator and the bolt without damaging any components (remove bolt after tightening, you only need a few turns on the bolt by hand unless the threads are filthy).
Is that the hole on the adjuster bracket?
Top alternator is a 12 MM Bottom is. 14MM. The power steering bolt is a 12MM.
Some good tips. BUT....
Also need to loosen the upper bolt to swing the power steering pump...
Also 12mm on the upper alternator bolt but 14mm on the lower on my 2005 XB.
Also had to remove the air-bag activator bracket that was blocking access to the lower alternator bolt (and re-attach when done).
Four hours for me.
How did you loosen up the pivot bolt on the alternator? I can't even find it!
You have to feel for it. You'll need a 14mm socket and short stubby socket ratchet.
There's also a 14mm bolt under the alternator just loosen and the alt comes loose
Just fyi. Ps to crank belt is 3 rib and the other belt is the 4 rib belt.
I had to bypass my a/c, the compressor froze up and the contential belt from autozone is a 4040347 belt. It has to be slipped on the crank and alt, then the back side of the belt to slide on the water pump pulley. It has very little slack in the belt, but it will fit on the crank/alt/water pump. hopefully this helps someone.
Thanks for the contribution!
Throws his tools like, "Thanks! Don't need you anymore " 😂 Anyways, great video bro! Definitely helpful with all the tips and especially letting us know what size sockets we'll be needing! 💯
Bro I wish u showed how u tighten that power steering belt I now u said it but I'm a visual person
Just to add get a good quality belts if you can,put a little more money on it, it worth it, Gates brand it's a good belt
For the power steering belt to loosen the pulley you need to loosen the top bolt to. So there's a total of two to loosen not one
I only loosened one and was able to get it, maybe my top bolt was loose enough ? Either way thanks for the comment it might help others you are a good man!
Man,you saved me some time! I bought both belts and damn if mine wasn't a 4 rib too! Thanx for a great video!
I wish you showed how you got the difficult belt out .the alternator one is easy
If the belt is old and damaged, can't you just cut it off?
@@therealrealshocker you still have to install a new one.
also, toyota bB compressor is clutch type with a smaller pulley.
Thanks for the video!!!
im really happy i found you. i would love to request maybe a tutorial on actually loosening the power steering belt and tightening it back on. idk, I'm scared to do mine lol I got them replaced like 8 months ago at valvoline but I dunno why the power steering one is super loose to the point of falling off.
The belt difference is automatic or 5-speed you have to tell him that when you get the belts tips and tricks for you
Big thanks for sharing this great information!
Why don't you use the belt tensioner and leave the alternator alone.
@@jeromebishsr.1394 the XPS don't have a belt tensioner the alternator is the tensioner
This was helpful man, thanks.
Good video man, something I just wanted to add if you tighten the alternator belt too tight you will shorten the life of your water pump. Ask me how I know 🤣
Good tip! That's why I mentioned the belt tension gauge really important especially on this car where it seem you need precision to get no squeal/not too tight. Really this seems to be the only design flaw in the who car. Thanks for watching and commenting.
3:45 Anyone knows the name or part number for the bottom piece of plastic that covers the belts etc? ...great video...THANK YOU
That's the Engine Under Cover RH
Part number for all belts
My exact car has 203k miles and I need to replace these belts, they are loud
Great video
Thank you so much for making the video
Very good video ad very helpful!
Glad to hear that!
May God bless you man. You honestly sound like you genuinely want to help. We need more people like you in this world. Thank you my brother.
Thank you for the video! I was going to change one belt but will do both. How long did this take?
Around 1.5 hours, thanks for watching!
My squeezing when I turn on the A/C
One of the very few flaws on this car is that it is hard to get the belt tension right. You might need to get a belt tension gauge from Harbor Freight if they have one in your town.
Good tips congrats🎉🎉👍
Awesome video doing my 06 xa......thanks
No problem 👍
This serpentine belt assembly makes me hate this car. Thanks for trying to help..
I use the shelf behind the steering wheel for my sunglasses. Thanks for the quick tips XD
Twisting the belt doesn’t have anything to do with deflection.
Correct...the twisting motion shown is not the deflection being talked about. The deflection is "up" or "down" force on the wide/flat side of the belt.
So my belt snapped while I was driving and this is the sec time any recommendations as to why or how to not have it snapped ?! Thank
I've heard it's preferential to get the belt from the Toyota dealer
Same
My check engine light came on after I replaced the belts. I don’t know what it is.
Does that smaller belt only run the power steering pump?
I loosed that top bolt and the alternator will NOT budge. Why?
Joel Pruitt there’s a second bolt under the alternator, if you feel right under where you see the belt from the top. You can definitely feel it, but it’s a tight fit with a wrench
Same with me, several options. There is a spot that a bolt cam be added and then used as leverage with a pry bar. Use a bolt loosener spray around the alternator and may have to still smack at it a little bit.
@@brandonbeers7923 Mine was stuck like glue. I wound up prying both ways and using a large c clamp for tension. It's a miracle I didn't break anything. Love my XB though.
Thanks for your help man, really appreciate it
Good video. I have to do both very soon and appreciate your video and tips! ~Pat
Thank you so much. Great info.
toyota bb has 4PK1170 belt (alternator)
No....1170 is the diameter in millimeters. Correct belt is a tad longer. 4PK1215.
Where is the volume
Great video! Thanks
Thanks, made this a quicker job for me.
Can you do a video of how to do the bottom bolt there’s a bottom one as well
I did not need to remove the bottom bolt to do the service for this job.
Thank you
Have you done any recent work on your scion
Not recently
Good video. I'll be doing this soon.
What number was the belt
You probably already fixed you car but there were conflicting belt numbers in different parts stores. I would take the old belt in if possible to make sure it has the same number of ribs. Good Luck!
WHERE DIS YOU GET THE BELTS?
WHAT ARE THE PART NUMBERS
AUTO ZONE?
ORIELYS?
WHY WOULD YOU LEAVE OUT THAT CRITICAL INFORMATION? ??
Quit hating just search it up like a real man.
Mechanic changed mine and my power steering belt was rubbing upward against the the engine. Do you know why this might happen?
The parts store gave me the wrong width belt for the bottom belt the fist time and i checked online and it said it was right but it was not, the power steering belt was a 3 rib not a 4. Good Luck!
@@callmebigpapa hey but do you know the part number for the bottom belt? They keep giving me the 4 rib
TOYOTA BB. Not scion bb
