Hi there. Regarding your statement about A-2 steel being much harder than CPM 3V: I just wanted to say that no steel is inherently harder than any other steel. Some steels can potentially be hardened to a higher HRC (Hardness RoCkwell) -value than others, but in this case we are taking about two blades which are both at approximately 58RC. The reason that 3V is harder to sharpen than A-2 at the same HRC-value, is that the alloy in 3V is different than A-2, making 3V more wear-resistant and tougher than A-2. Your sharpening stone is simply wearing down the 3V slower. I just wanted to clarify. Best regards.
Paleolithictech22 you said that there wasn’t much difference between the two steels but there kinda is. They’re not really close at all in make up. They are both great steels though.
Good video! I agree 100% that an easy to maintain knife is best especially in the woods. If need be a smooth river stone would sharpen the knife, thats not gonna happen with 3V. Knives are a series of tradeoffs. Pick the attributes that are most important to you and let that determine the steel choice. My favorite steel is O1 with my heat treat followed by A2. I am currently making a knife out of 3V but for the most part I prefer a knife that holds an edge for a reasonable amount of time and is easy to maintain.
Thank you, yeah I can Imagine. Anything you hold and work with in your hands gathers an emotional attachment so I can only imagine what its like with a guitar.

The gimping is possibly the GOAT, at least for fixed blades... on par if not better than the legendary Spyderco Para II. The geometry is flawless.
What do you think about bravo 1 LT vs the ultralight bushcrafter for all-purpose camp knife, infrequent bushcraft, etc. assume I’ll have a hatchet or pack axe with me.
Love your videos. In fact, you convinced me to acquire LT Wright Boattail Scandi. However, I find it strange that you don't own Bark River Lil' Canadian. I have it in thin stock 3V (2016 model) and I love it. It is my edc carry even though I have XL hands. No problem with finger groves at all. Great little knife and you should definitely try it.
First of all, nice and informative video. With your experience with Bark River, I would love to get your opinion on the Kalahari bushman 2. It’s my favorite Bark River knife. Thank you again , looking forward to more Videos.

Homestead Mike thanks! Any knife in the Aurora series is gonna be awesome. I personally prefer smaller knives as I have found a smaller knife (3-3.5in blade) will do 95% of what a 5in plus knife can do but it will carve better. If that size fits your needs the design of the Aurora is awesome.
Question I have is....if you buy such a small fixed blade, then why not just carry a good folder. I'm not putti g down the fixed blades..... I'm only asking

Got my Cocobolo Mini Kephart earlier today. Used it for kitchen duty. Then tapered and rounded the last inch of handle. As standard the handle has no contouring and a squared off edge on either side. Because the handle is just long enough for a full grip it is now more comfortable for me. A slightly longer blade than the Ultra Lite Bushcrafter and a bit more hand-filling. I like it so far for an all-purpose, light weight EDC sort of option... ;)

Great videos brother! I just stumbled upon your channel last night and have already watched nearly all of your videos and subscribed. Ironically I was told I'm likely receiving a Bark River Aurora LT in polished green canvas micarta for Christmas, and this was before stumbling onto your channel. Lol! I really enjoy your videos because you clearly have quite a bit of knowledge and experience and are very logical and educated in the way you speak. Believe it or not, that's becoming harder and harder to find here on UA-cam! Most of these big UA-cam knife and gear reviewers are just morons. My only criticism is that you need to maybe invest in a mic. It's quite difficult to hear you in your videos and it necessitates having to turn the volume up to a VERY high level just to hear you talk. The bad part about that is that if I forget to turn the volume back down after your video ends and the next video auto-plays, it's libel to blow my head off! Haha! By the way, I would be very interested to see you do a sharpening video. I'm curious to know whether you use lubricant on your sharpening stones or if you sharpen dry. Just out of curiosity, I noticed you've mentioned in a few of your videos that you live right off the Appalachian Trail, however you don't sound as though you are in the southern portion of the United States by virtue of the fact that you don't have any type of an accent. What state are you from?
Hello, thanks for commenting and I apologize for the late reply. I was just looking into getting a mic and incorporating it into my video making! I appreciate the kind words! I live in North Carolina. When I was younger my father traveled around quite a bit for work so I have stayed in the South West and North West as a young lad. Funny enough I was born in the county I currently reside in. Thanks again and I appreciate the comment and SUB.
DUDE, this is the 3rd video of yours that I've checked out, and they ALL have the same problem. FIX YOUR AUDIO!! It's too damn low. Remember, on THIS end we can always turn it DOWN, but we can't turn it up past a certain point.

Cool
Anyone everr comment about your sound level? Too low, gotta "dime" it.
You should get a bark River puukko
Says an aurora LT is “like a hatchet” hahaha
DUDE, this is the 3rd video of yours that I've checked out, and they ALL have the same problem. FIX YOUR AUDIO!! It's too damn low. Remember, on THIS end we can always turn it DOWN, but we can't turn it up past a certain point.
Uh..... No respectable Bushcrafting blade should be over 4.5-4.75 in.
Batoning is SO overused. If you are spending so much time batoning, you need different tools other than knives.
All these videos are just so quiet!
If I’m going to baton I will use an ax .
The owner of one of the company you are displaying
Told me that he uses a folding knife in the field .
So all of your talking is crap.
You’re not Daniel Boon LOL
Unbelievable.
Saya mau minta dong 🙏😀
Just how many knives does one need ?
Your ridiculous .
lets see video u “skinning “ an animal.....
Barone B I’m not sure how UA-cam would feel about that in the current political correct culture we live in. Between family and friends we harvest about 10 deer a year and dozens of small game. I dress all of those.
@@HighCountryHang there are a couple of videos with regards to skinning and processing, i am sure youtube is ok with it unless their policy has changed.
None of em. Overpriced junk
It's like having a garage of 10 cars. First world problems.......
