People might not realize the significance, or they might think that they already know when they lack the experience to know deeply, BUT true enlightenment such as this is a NATURAL ego-death. Not that forced by chemicals that alter your perception of things without motivating you to actually live by the acknowledgment.
Buddha reached enlightenment sitting under the Bodhi tree some time after he ate the rice meal Sujata (the young girl gave him). That day he renounced asceticism. That's not the day he reached enlightenment.
Sensory deprivation to.have the prophetic visions to let the brain traverse the trees.of thought uninterrupted.

The desire for a more positive experience is itself a negative experience. And, paradoxically, the acceptance of one's negative experience is itself a positive experience. Pursuing something only reinforces that you lack it in the first place.

Buddha's greatest strength was realising the middle ground. He did not promote senseless eating nor starvation and extreme starvation but found that we are at our best when we dont eat too much but eat enough to be healthy and that a decent health is necessary for true peace

I absolutely love this. Like it’s both quite profound and funny. Profound as it is totally in line with the entire philosophy while simultaneously being an oxymoron. But also hysterical because, especially without the context of the story at large, it sounds borderline insane.
It's not as insane as it sounds.. many ppl practically kill themselves to get something in life or achieve some idea/goal of theirs.. so it's a pretty good allegory or analogy.. but i do know you got the meaning already
The key to enlightenment is that moment when you just say "fuck it, I'm done".
Yup. Whenever I’m stuck in a cycle or a fixed mindset, looking for an answer, i try to push myself into that “fuck it all”, then I get my answer.
It’s just like when you hand in your exam paper and immediately get the answer you spent the last 20 minutes of your exam trying to remember
That's how Vegeta became a super Saiyan, he just didn't care anymore.
And how Goku learned how to tap into complete ultra instinct in the manga after merus died
What people miss is that desire is "the last" thing to give up. Billions of people don't have the desire to become enlightened and evidently, they are not. You need to first strive for enlightenment and go through the entire process before finally giving up. That's when enlightenment happens
The way I've discovered enlightenment is to just enjoy life. Chill out, go to work, chill out again, enjoy the time sitting down doing literally nothing. The best thing to do is just put your phone in your pocket and just think, and reflect on your day. You feel the most relaxed after working, whether it be working out or out working. TLDR: just chill down dawg
Thats being content, enlightenment is the realization that nothing really is real

@@LiberPater777ok.
@@flapjack6983 Not if you're Christian.
Dude Christianity is the opposite of Buddhism it’s seeking the ending to suffering internally
You should probably check out Orthodox Christian monastics (monks). Christian tradition has some very enlightened people.
Buddhism identifies desire as causing suffering and seeks the
eradication of desires,.
Christianity however recognizes it's not wrong or "problematic" to necessarily desire, the goal is to desire rightly and in proper order.
At the heart of Christian spirituality is purification and illumination of our identity - we can be one with God without a eradication of our identity. Buddhism seeks to eradicate it, or in some forms of Hinduism, to be consumed into the monad like a droplet of water into the ocean.
Ah reminds me of an old chinese proverb" Dont be a tryhard scrub" 😂
The way he pronounces "Buddha"... 🙏 I'll have to turn it into a ringtone.
The right way. Not the American way which is Boooodah.
Boodtah
That's the authentic way to pronounce the Sanskrit word. It's spelled "Buddha", not "Booduh" for a reason.
Giving up on reaching arbitrary goals and setting more short-term targets is the first step to living a happy life. I was going through a terrible time and the curiosity of what the next day will bring was what let me pull through. Now I just kind of… vibe. If you think about how wonderful your own existence is, the literal miracle of life, then any hardships become much easier to endure.
When my head hurts, thinking about the fact that pain is in the mind won’t reduce the pain itself, but it WILL make it more bearable and will tell me why the pain has started and how to combat it.
The idea I always get when it comes to enlightenment is "In order to be one with everything, you must be nothing"
thats just nonsense.
@@andrewmuse2756 It's nonsense to you but it can mean a lot and holds something for somebody else.
I'm pretty sure I know what you mean, since it seems true "enlightenment" is wisdom brought about by a moment of very intense ego-death. However, the ego persists, or it makes no sense for it to die. You are part of everything. To be one with everything, you must also be one with yourself. Just as you pour out into everything, everything must also be poured into the You. Nothing is not a thing in itself. It only exists as a Platonic concept. You must be You, in everything, as everything, in You. During an intense psychedelic trip, it was described to me that the universe is an ocean, wherein we are all individual droplets. We are, together, a complete picture, and each part of existence is essential to the ocean being as it is. Yet, in our collective manifestation of the Oneness, we are still unique individuals. In other words, you must be the droplet that is You, and you must also be the ocean; inseparable, uniform, shapeless, whole. You must be both, in being one. It is paradoxical, yet it is enlightenment.
@@seurn7801Not buddhism.
I’m not a spiritual person at all but that story has always inspired me, just the idea that wanting something too badly can make you get in your own way really speaks to me
Fully agree. Something not mentioned here that often gets forgotten is to enjoy life to it’s fullest. I think I and a lot of religious people believe they need to embrace asceticism to reach enlightenment. But not only is that an attachment to an idea, I think it also brings a lot of unnecessary suffering in place of many things that were supposed to be enjoyed
Depends on the reason of why you think u have to become.an.ascetic?
Telling a person.who tries to live his life according to dhamma, to enjoy life, is like telling a 30year old to go play with his toy cars and toy soldier figurines.
Why did you stop playing with the same toys you played with when you were a child?
You realised there is no pleasure or joy to be found in those.Right?
When I was learning about Buddhism I had this exact question of "isn't wanting to become enlightened a desire?" And this is perfect thank you
I was born a Christian in a Buddhist country and so I can't speak with complete confidence. But I've always thought that the desire to detach from extreme desires or emotions that's the key to enlightenment.

This story is so beautiful
I love the idea of it. It makes possibility to appreciate anything in your life.
Seeing this, his "followers" (they were more just his buddies/companions at this point) who were fasting with him, abandoned him believing he has failed. Later when they met him again though, just looking at him they could see that he was enlightened, without even speaking to him, so they apologised and became his followers
Your content is awesome! Be aware that you have started overusing the word "like".
The beautiful story of the middle way the middle path! I love hearing stories of the buddha. Om mani Padme Hum. May everyone be free of suffering
I remember I had somewhat of an enlightenment moment once. I barely knew what it was at the time and didn’t know enough about it to want it really. My really hippy girlfriend at the time got so mad at me because she’d been trying to have that kind of experience for ages and I had to explain I thought that was part of the reason she hasn’t had one 😂
I'd love to hear what happened if you want to share!
@@jasonmoonshiner Sure! We went to a yoga thing in the evening after a day hanging out together and we did the yoga. At the end, the yoga teacher started essentially leading a mindfulness practice and I very quickly zoned out to my experience. In brief, I walked through this white void and saw myself as a child screaming and in distress. I comforted my younger self and reassured him I would always be there for him and in that moment had an epiphany around self-love. That quickly then became a broader love for everyone. That's the nutshell but hopefully you get the idea!
Letting things happen versus forcing them. For some people the hardest thing to do is to stop trying.
Unfortunately, that exact same "fuck it" attitude is the number one symptom of burnout. A lack of empathy is the easiest thing to notice, the first thing to go, and it feels exactly like saying "fuck it, I just don't care about anymore."
Appricate how fortunite things are

It's almost as if desire itself is the root of suffering! Whoever came up with that one, I think he was onto something 😉
It’s not really the desire itself, but the attachment to it. As living creatures we can’t control our desires, but we can learn not not give them power over us.
Fully enjoying simple things and having no want of excess is ideal
Not to be disrespectful, but how is bro's mouth so WIDE

Charisma 100
Reminded me of focused and diffused thinking. When Buddha let go is when he start diffused thinking which is helpful for a more creative thinking to occur, examples being when people shower or about to fall asleep is when great idea hits.
On a similar context, in Catholicism my professor told us that Charity is higher than Adoration. If we're fasting for our faith and someone offered their time and energy or food then it is better to give in and acknowledge their kindness. 😊
Wow! In order to get enlightened he first needed to give up the desire lf enlightenment
That's some epic levels of depth
Oh! This story is SO COOL!
i learned this lesson when I tried to breakthrough on DMT. I told myself I wanted to let go, that I was ready, that I was prepared.. but there is nothing harder than completely letting go.
Well actually according to the scripts, it is not the letting go of the desire for enlightenment that made him get there. It is mentioned that he reached that state because he chose the middle path, which meant not putting yourself to extreme discomfort and pain nor extreme comfort and luxury. (Both which he learned from experience)
There were various realisations that the Buddha acquired during extreme fasting. He realised that without energy it made meditation more difficult, and most importantly, that the middle way (avoiding extremes) was the best approach for life. This awareness had occurred upon hearing a teacher explain to some students, that a musical instrument’s string sounds best, when it’s not too tight, and not too loose.
Thats like, my favorite story I've ever heard.
knowing controlling and living your existence is the awareness that leads to enlightenment .
Awesome story 👏
Let it go, let it go
Can't hold it back anymore
Let it go, let it go
Its like looking for something you lost not having any luck so you do something else and then find it
when you desire something its because its something you don't have and you perceive it as something you need, but when your truly in a god place in life you don't immediately desire thing, you become Calm and collected, that's when your able to achieve enlightenment
balance is everything.
But what if complete chaos, extremism, and total balance, all need to be balanced out?
It makes sense, he got rid of his only ego attachment which was his need for enlightenment and became it
The more important thing is to ENJOY THE PURSUIT of positive experience by all means.
That itself is a positive experience.
"Zen does not confuse spirituality with thinking about God while one is peeling potatoes. Zen spirituality is just to peel the potatoes." -Alan Watts

That's admirable for someone who has American accent.

I had been trying to learn some secrets of the universe so i eat 4 tabs and i remember just being confused and frustrated because my fingers didnt work, but then i sat down to a sandwich a beer and a bowlpack and was so overjoyed at the spread that i ego deathed and met god.
There is a difference between desiring it and feeding the natural drive towards it
It’s the stages.
1. Hypnotic State
2. Awaken
3. learning
4. Mastery
This is also engrained in our subconscious.
Less is more.
Calm
Letting go of desire
The more shit you have to go through to get something the better the reward becomes, almost dying for a goal that you can't even reach, even with that much effort. Is the darkest path.
Letting go, Accepting and enjoying something to the fullest potential because you need it and deprived yourself of it for so long. Letting yourself finally live. Life suddenly seems so good.
Being a chilean myself, I will never forget the moment the news of the plane crash were announced on live TV. It was so shocking, cause you never expect journalists/presenters to suffer such tragic death. Still, gross negligence and cover up by the Chilean Navy to this day, such a shame.

To give something up doesn't have to mean for ever. If you give a sacrifice, it make come back in a new and stronger form.
As a Buddhist, I can prove that Buddha has really told us that to reach enlightenment we must develop a desire for enlightenment. But finally, after we reach enlightenment we have already left all our desires.

A similar point, people always preach for balance, but really only practice peace. No one every says you should get angry and violent in the pursuit of balance.

The Stoics say that life is really about being able to withstand the largest amount of suffering possible. Once you have reached this form of "invincibility", then you can do whatever you want- but you shouldn't do whatever you want until you've reached that point. The reason why is because it's important for the person to be able to conquer their desires first so that they are not enslaved to their desires in the present and future. Being able to sacrifice something for the sake of achieving a goal is a very powerful thing, but many cannot do it because their emotions get in the way. Once you've reached very low points, though, the process of sacrificing becomes easier, and therefore, it is easier for you to work hard and accomplish your goals.
Acceptance is key
There's more to this story, I don't know the finer details however Buddha started out wealthy he had everthing but was miserable and thought this is not the path to happiness and contentment. Perhaps being poor would help me archive fulfillment and happiness. And he almost died doing so. This is where he came to the conclusion, being very rich or poor doesn't make one happy or content, there must be a middle path. Which is the basis of all Buddism.
yess that is the actual story! not what he is saying in the video
Pudding was so good that Buddha ascended
What a neat story
It's very easy to develop an attachment to letting go, that's why in the end you have to let go of letting go.
But his desire for the rice pudding overpowered his desire for enlightenment. It is only when you no longer desire that you will get the pail of rice pudding. Such An inspirational message 🙏
