The level of control Clem is displaying is just insane, that marine spread at the very end is godlike against zerg. Still seeing how Serral came back from brink with those two wins just cements his position as one of the very best players ever. Crazy stupid that they both needed to face off in such early stage of IEM, this is grand finals material
Marines alas seem to be the dominant meta in 99% of pro terrans I see :/ Marines are just too good overall in good hands. Clems is definitively a specialist of marine spreading x)

Insane series. Game 1 I said "Serral is effed" and then 2 minutes later I'm saying "Clem is effed".
Really, the ability of both players (esp. Serral) to make a play while behind is just off the charts.
As much as I love them I cannot see innovation or even TY playing as well as clem against serral.

@LowLinK hope so, but his road to get there wont be easier. Zest is on fire and PvT is not Clem strongest matchup. Then its either another crazy PvT or the rematch with TY.

one of the most intense fights in star craft 2. the game goes back and forth.this is what I can really call "GOOD GAME!".
These presplits from Clem... so unreal. You can barely see two marines together.
THIS. Clem has figured out that you don't have to run in and destroy the base ASAP then run, better strat is to make the opponent waste their banes on a few of your units, then you can mop up easily. I think I saw like 20 banes kill 5 marines. If anything, the zerg has to presplit their banes to counter the presplit marines. But I think serral was panicking in this battle and just sent everything cuz he was way down on army supply.
Presplits are like 101 terran though...but yeah clem deserve the win 1000%
@JM Coulon Also one could split the banes on the move, but they clump again like 2 seconds later, is like trying to catch a reaper with slow lings, is of no use.
marine/mine/medi vs mutabling is such an exhausting style. I can't believe how good their control was as the series kept on.
Every single one of those games can be made into a movie. Holy shit, that was epic!

Wow at the end I think Clem is making command centers just to keep the mutas occupied. At first I was like "why the hell is he throwing away minerals?" but the man is a genius.
The micro in this game was unreal, I actually got chills watching, not even an Artosis reference.

@@RoseGold-Playa Not really, Clem is up by 20 army supply, Serral has run out of bane, and was only able to make some lings which take more time to morph into bane. By then, Clem would have taken out the 4th, or even the 3rd from Serral. In addition, all the Queens were about to die which mean creep spread will be horrible for Serral. Clem can just stay outside of the creep and harrass non-stop.
@@RoseGold-Playa I don't think so, that was more Serral respecting Clem's ability to finish him after such an advantage, and not wanting to waste energy on this game imo

Serral is only a player two!
This series is an example of why I play Zerg and Protoss but not Terran. EVERYTHING that Terran does is that much harder than the other two races: they have the same building-based limitations of Protoss while having to also build "at home" like the Zerg (no warp-in at Prisms or remote Pylons). They have a ridiculously fragile army like Zerg but can't re-max anywhere near as quickly. The are as weak in the early game as Protoss with no god-tier unit like Queens, which means they have to be the aggressor early on to keep the opponent from running over their early base.
And then there's the mechanical control necessary to actually play Terran bio. One misstep and you lose your entire army to two Banelings. Lose focus for a second and Banelings or Mutalisks can evaporate an entire mineral line of SCVs. Playing Terran just seems like choosing to play an already difficult game on Nightmare mode.

@@shayden6995 Clem is better suited at beating Serral than Maru, and thats it. Remember how Solar just beat Clem up a couple days ago. And Clem lost to Maru head-to-head as well.
@@shayden6995 whilst Clem is defiantly in great form i'd argue Maru is a stronger overall had longer and stronger success (4 gsl's prologue etc)) tougher opponents Kespea during its prime inno and TY constantly.. I'm not saying he won't get there but he has long while to go before he is on even footing

That was impressive from Clem. Only thing I was wondering is, why he doesn't build any sensor towers? Is that building deprecated now? I feel like he would've had an even more commanding victory if he could react against the baneling run-by before it hits.

zerglings rallying into clems army, half baked flanks on clems sieged position and clem just eating banes with mules and siege tanks...
I mean microing zerglings is insanely hard, because you are not able to focus attack on single units... and I'm not even sure if serral could have turned it around with better army control. He couldn't even tech up and had to defend with only his queens and ling/bane, because of the amount of pressure clem applied in the second game :o Maybe commiting the resources from some of the unsuccessful counter attacks on clems 3rd to break clems sieged up position could have helped him win that.

Man as a Serral fanboy, Serral really struggling against Reynor and Clem recently. Tough to call him the best player in the world anymore.
This tournament is crazy so far, probably the two favorites to win are out before the RO8 which is nuts.

That was great from Clem, still consistent with his unit micro and focus fire. Unfortunately Serral has deteriorated, I'm conflicted if he's really that skillful or Zerg was just imbalance during the 18-19 season. I'm not even sure with Protoss since they got some buffs, wondering if "Is it skills or is it the buffs". I hope the SC2 devs really balance each races interaction and be more consistent on their design.
Note: Unfortunately I have seen so much comments of "Imbalances" on this game that I'm having a doubt who's really the best SC2 player in the world.
Its just that, Clem has the perfect counter to Serral skillset. Serral like to do lingbane control, and he has been so great at that against 90% of SC2 progamers, but Clem Marine control is even at a higher level, forcing Serral to lose every single time lingbane fight into Tank Bio army of Clem.
I don’t think the game is unbalanced, it’s Serra’s , but the reason you have doubt may not come from the game ,it’s maybe there is a new Serral
I mean, 100% Serral's dominance was due to zerg imbalance. Zergs, even without Serral, were winning everything. Zergs had like 75% of premier wins and were like 80% of the participant in the finals. You can see Serral's game after the infestor nerf has been downhill. He's still a top tier player but back then he could just sit back and wait until infestors came around to win the game 100% of the time. Nowadays, the only way he can win is with baneling counter attacks. Look how Serral made a mistake last game and let like 10 helions in. He ended up losing like 2 workers. Meanwhile, Clem makes a mistake and lets in 5 banelings. Loses 20 workers. Zerg gameplay nowadays is basically just stall your opponent and hope you can sneak by with a baneling counter and if it doesnt work, you lose cause you aren't good enough otherwise.

@@JohnSmith-mj3vj Agreed. It's also amusing to me, when people talk about the 'GOATS' in SC2, and consistently refer to Serral. Yeah sure, Serral is great player. But the fact, that Zerg isn't the hardest race to play in the game and has enjoyed the best balance, on top of the majority of maps being Zerg favored, disqualifies Serral automatically from being the GOAT. Serral's success puts him up there with the top players but no amount of success can put him into the place of the greatest of all time. Terran players have suffered the most in regards to balance, map pools and the fact, that it's mechanically the most strenuous, puts players like INnoVation, Maru, MvP and TY into the discussion for the title of greatest of all time in SC2.

I love that the answer to a top level Zerg is just to play Terran like it's Zerg. Clem was absolutely ruthless. You just don't see Zerg players getting harried like that. Usually they are the ones pouring on the endless pressure. What an outstanding showing for Clem.

Last game: (～30:58) Why did Serral continue producing mutalisks? Shouldn't he have transitioned-out when thors arrived and pretty much all bases were protected by numerous turrets, widow mines and 3/3 marines? Wouldn't lurkers or ultras (or perhaps even broodlords) be the better calls? Imo a questionable strategic decision.
I don't play zerg often, but its a matter of being to afford that tech switch while consistently producing units to defend against clem's aggression. If serral established a 5th base, then he probably could of afforded a tech switch but clem's aggression was too much.
@@schmidthappensmedia mutas are rather bad used defensively. Besides, they are actually quite expensive for their value at this stage of the game. 3 or 4 less mutas essentially equals a tech switch or one slight miss rally on top of a thor. Also upgade-wise Serral didn't really commit to playing air units (Needless to say, armour upgrades for mutas are pretty useless anyway).
Serral needed mobile anti air to prevent Clem from abusing medivacs to drop everywhere are take amazing trades.
In late game only mutas hydras and corruptors are able to do that.
Corruptors are even wrose than mutas as they can't be used to pressure clem at all and have no targets other than the medivacs. Hydras aren't a choice either as he doesn't have the upgrades for them and tech switching to them would make Serral basically go back in the tech tree and no able to establish himself in the late game, so it would just be a slow death.
