  • Thanks for tuning back into Chickanic! Every year we get in over 2,000 pieces of equipment, but many of those end up not being repaired. Most of the time customers will leave their broken units so we end up with TONS of winter projects! Check out the treasure I made today!!

    My name is Bre. I took two years of small engine repair at the local college. When I left school, I fell into a wonderful job at a local small engine shop where I worked the counter for a couple years. In 2010 my husband and I opened up our own small engine shop in central Arkansas where I am able to work alongside my family and best friends. We see over 2,000 pieces of small engine equipment every year, and answer 1,000's of small engine questions. We specialize in brands such as Briggs and Stratton, Kohler, Echo and Shindaiwa, but work everyday on MANY other brands like Stihl, Husqvarna, Honda, Craftsman, Remington, Red Max, Troy Bilt, Scag, Bad Boy, Hustler, World Lawn, Poulan, Mantis, Etc.. Hopefully, my experience I share, will save you Time, Money and Frustration in the future!

      The whole developed world is throwaway. If you ever visit developing nations (India is a great example) you’ll find whole streets of repair shops for everything from washing machines to tvs to toasters to cameras. You name it, you’ll find someone who’ll not only repair it, but fabricate any parts they need. Just like the USA in the 1950’s.

    Great video, as usual. I don't have a business, just have a small shop where I do work to keep busy. I do get some stuff in from people who don't want it anymore. Fix it up if I can and either sell it for a small profit or give it away. Just got in a Troy Bilt self propelled mower, Troy Bilt Pressure washer, Troy Bilt edger, a Troy Bilt and Husqvarna trimmer, Poulon Pro chain saw and a Proforce 3000 generator. This stuff looked new. The guy that had it hired a yard care company and no longer needed the equipment. I've gone through most of it. Most had bad gas in it. Anyway, cleaned, replaced parts as needed, changed oil and got it all running. It will be sent back to him and donated for use by a veteran motorcycle group to either sell or give away to a vet. I've been a mechanic for over 40 years, jet engines, recips and a host of other equipment. Still learning.

    When installing an engine I put two bolts with the heads cut off loose into the engine in the positions that are easiest to get to on the tractor. They become alignment pins so it's now easy to place the engine and put the bolts into the harder to get at locations. When the other two bolts are put in it is now a matter of removing the alignment bolts and installing the mounting bolts. Makes life alot easier.

I got it home and sprayed a little starter fluid in the intake and the thing busted off on the first pull . I even called the guy back and asked him did he want it fixed . He said no , I’ve already bought a new one !!!!! I will be fixing this one up and sell it !!! Please keep making the videos . I wish I had the wheel horse in the beginning of the video !!!!!

      I picked up a snowblower a few months ago right off the curb from one of my neighbors. He said take it. I thought I may use it for parts. Well with very little cleaning (the primer bulb hose was disconnected) it started right up, was in excellent shape, worked 100% and got me $350.00 in my wallet. Win,win!

    I was glad to see that you installed a fuel shutoff valve in the fuel line - this is so important on any mower that has the fuel tank above the carburetor. I've lost track of the number of these engines on which I have seen both the needle valve in the carburetor, as well as the anti-backfire fuel cutoff valve at the bottom of the bowl, both leak ever so slightly, which can result in the cylinder filling up with fuel which then leaks past the rings into the oil. I had two neighbors who both lost engines due to this.
    Oh, also I would suggest transferring over the engine air intake shroud which helps keep the engine from recirculating hot underhood air, from the dead engine. I'd sell it for at least $650.

      @@Chickanic That's kool. My new tractor is scary with its active safety. No "gas pedal", just a brake/shift pedal. You have to press the pedal to stop. I'd much rather the passive safety of stopping when I release the gas pedal of my old LT2000. If you get bounced around on my new one you may not be able to hit the brake. Funny thing...I never tore my LT2000 apart until I gave it away at 8 yrs old. Then we rebuilt it including mandrel bearings.

    • @truracer20
      @truracer20 3 місяці тому

      @@Icehso140 I don't know of any garden tractor that can't be started or left running with the PTO disengaged, in park, with nobody in the seat. With modern tractors there is no reason to eliminate or bypass safety switches, I think they all allow cutting in reverse, though none cut particularly well traveling in reverse. I prefer the single pedal tractors over those with a throttle pedal, with the single pedal and drive selector lever it's easier to set the travel speed and brake as needed, or just pull back slightly on the lever, with the throttle pedal you have to try and hold it just right while jostling over bumps, the cruise control feature is useless because it cancels when braking. The single pedal tractors are more like a farm tractor to drive. My old craftsman DYT 4000 had the single pedal with infinite drive selector lever and was a much more comfortable tractor to operate than the throttle pedal equipped craftsman T7800 pro series that replaced it. Other than the DYT 4000 having a Briggs and Scrapiron engine it was superior in all ways to the t7800, it had the drive selector lever, electric PTO, a 5 gallon fuel tank, 10" wide rear tires, steered better and had a 6" max cut. The t7800 pro series has the god awful throttle pedal, cable PTO, a 2.5 gallon fuel tank, 8" wide rear tires, steers hard( tore a rotator cuff), AND only has a 4.5" max cut. The 4.5" max cut is unforgivable, unless you have a dead flat, perfectly sodded yard you scalp the lawn with every cut. Especially since you can't set deck wheel height to prevent it.

    I love watching you in your videos. You know what you are talking about and are good with your communication skills as well as your hands. You represent your gender in an outstanding manner. I know it's kinda off limits to some to even think about mentioning gender but I am a man who recently heard his girlfriend say with a completely straight face, "don't hurt yourself, I just did my nails".

    That is awesome. I swapped an engine off of my 20 year old mower to a newer mower with a bent crank
