Check Engine Light VSC TRAC Fix For Lexus GX470 GX 470 Easy Fix Repair Common to Toyota also

  • This is a specific fix for a common issue that got me quite worried initially. I’m not used to a Traction Control and VSC light coming on for a gas cap issue, but I guess in this car it’s common and the fix is a bad gas cap! This is the video showing the error codes I got and how many miles it took to fix it.
    Also this SUV sits here and there, and it sat unused for about 2 months when I broke my arm recently. So the low voltage issue was because it was truly low battery voltage, and as we all know low battery voltage can trip other errors, which is what tripped the computer error and the ABS error. Those codes are gone now too!

    I bought a cheap gas cap from Auto zone, it fixed the problem after driving around few days. But the engine light , VSC on again. After watching this video, I went to the local Lexus dealer, bought a genuine gas cap for 34.99 plus tax. After install the cap, push the ignition button engine light, VSC just disappear just like magic. Just like the gas cap and fuel tank entrance can sense each other.

    I went to Napa Auto Parts to purchase a new gas cap. The store staff assisted in checking the engine code for a restart, and afterward, the lights were fixed. I am thankful for the help, which I learned about by watching the UA-cam video.

    It worked for my 2004 Scion xB. Just wish I had seen the guy’s video before I went to the dealership and paid $44.91 for a new gas cap. I waited for 5 hours for them to tell me that I needed a new gas cap. The other gentleman cleaned his gas cap gasket and put it back and it was fixed. Plus he explained that you have to hear the proper number of clicks when you put the gas cap on. Then turn the car off, wait a few seconds and turn the car back on.

      Thank you for the comment. I tried to show every step. Some people still didn’t follow it and they say “I had the same lights and I just put a gas cap on, the light didn’t go away”. Then I ask if they read the codes and they say no. They go get the codes read at a local auto parts store and find out they didn’t have the same codes and then they wasted the time and money on a new gas cap. I hope it helps you!

    Thanks for the tips.

    I lost $45 at a local repair shop before I took it to the dealership. The local shop tightened my old gas cap and after a few days the lights were back on again. Then the owner reset the codes, but the lights came back on again after a few days.
    After that, I called the dealership and explained it to them. They told me to bring it in. I paid $44.91 just so I could wait for 5 hours and get a new gas cap. SHAMEFUL! But I’m glad nothing serious was wrong with my car. This is my second comment about my 2004 Scion xB gas cap issue.
    I will share this information with my friends and family in case they have the same problem.
    Thank you.

    Had the same issue, code C1201. I just installed the new gas cap from Advance Auto Part. Hopefully, this will work! Usually, it ties into one another when it has a blinking VSC and Engine light. I do not think I have an ABS issue, as my ABS light did not turn on. So I'll take the cheaper approach first.

    • @alexsystems2001
      @alexsystems2001  Рік тому +1

      I appreciate your comment but I showed the codes I got and mine were linked specifically to the evaporative emissions system. Evaporative emissions basically collects the evaporation from your fuel tank to ensure it doesn’t go unburned into the air. I believe your code has something to do with the ABS system. I have my doubts a gas cap will solve your issues but if they do please let me know. Each code is tripped by a system or signals from a sensor and your code seems to be from a completely different system.

    • @alexsystems2001
      @alexsystems2001  5 місяців тому +1

      I don’t mean any of this as rude, but did you read your codes? I showed in my video what codes I had, I showed the diagnostic process. The codes should get you pretty close to whatever your problem is. These lights will come on even if there is a transmission problem, a catalytic converter failure, an oxygen sensor issue etc. If you didn’t have a misfire code, why would you change the coils? If you didn’t have a lean/rich on a certain bank of oxygen sensors, why would you change the oxygen sensors? Again, this isn’t meant as rude but after all the time and expense you put into changing all those parts, if you don’t have a code associated with those parts, you are hurting your own wallet. Start on the right track, and read the codes to determine your problem, those lights come on because something is out of spec and the computer sensed it and stored a code regarding the issue.

    • @matjenkins9025
      @matjenkins9025 5 місяців тому

      Not at all brother, so yes she is running lean also so that's why all those changes which yeep you guessed it didn't do a dam thing either. But I do have the Vsc and trac lights on also with engine light !! Not at all rude brother say it how it is, I prefer that. Code is P0420 and P0430 all state catalyst system efficiency below threshold bank 2

    • @alexsystems2001
      @alexsystems2001  5 місяців тому

      @@matjenkins9025 oh darn, usually on a scan tool you can see the live output reading of the oxygen sensor in a graph. If you are getting movements or readings, it’s a high likelihood that would usually point me to the cat being bad. I don’t know about your specific situation with your car but there is a good possibility that’s the issue. Usually you have upstream and downstream oxygen sensors, one before the cat and one after the cat checking the functionality of the cat to make sure it is doing its job. Also usually on a V8 they have bank 1 and bank 2. One bank is one side of the V8 and the other bank is the other side so if it’s saying bank 2 and not bank 1 then it’s pointing to the cat on the bank 2 side of your engine. I hope that helps get you closer but I wouldn’t want to change another part it sounds like everything is working up until the cat on bank 2

      @@alexsystems2001 Honestly, I can't be sure. They have come on and gone out three seperate times since March. Once they went out and didn't light up again for two months/3,000 miles. But the codes did indicate the emissions system; possible system leak(s) but my technician guy said the culprit is one or both catalytic converters. This dude services all the luxury vehicles in La Paz and Los Cabos so he's apparently "the man" to see about this kinda stuff so I trust his opnion. But what do I know? He says to ignore it. There's no smog checks in Mexico so it doesn't matter. But I don't want to ignore it. I'd rather have my traction control and ABS. But I also don't want to spend $1,500+ if I can avoid it. The truck has 325,000+ miles on it now -- and doesn't burn a single drop of oil ever! Thing is absolutely perfect, mechanically speaking. From drivetrain to suspension anyway. Interior is great. Everything works except the CD changer. The A/C has gotten weak and I replaced the blower when it went out but it still doesn't blow as hard as it used to, on the "High" setting...but it is cold. Not sure what is causing that but... It passed smog in L.A. last January so this is a recent development.

    Optimum Fuel Pressure
    On the inside, the caps can have two different breathing systems: vented or non-vented. A non-vented fuel cap is recommended when your fuel tank is ventilated through the filler neck, whereas the vented fuel cap is equipped with a special breathing valve so that it can be used on non-ventilated fuel tanks.

I don't have any buttons to push in regards to the VRC, TRAC marks or the check engine light. So how do I go about it?

    • @alexsystems2001
      @alexsystems2001  4 роки тому +1

      loyaltyfamilyfirst that’s good news! I am confused a little with your question though, are you asking how do you reset the lights? I can reset my lights with my code reader tool but for this video, I just drove it the lights went out on their own after about 40 miles. Then I checked for codes to see that the evap code went away. If the gas cap fixed the problem the computer takes a reading of its sensors here and there and if the problem stops existing the lights should shut themselves off after some miles maybe 40-100 miles (it varies). If the problem is still there the lights will stay on. If you want them off now a code reader scan tool will reset the lights.

    • @alexsystems2001
      @alexsystems2001  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for your comment. Is there anything specific about bank 1 and bank two? Sometimes if it’s just one bank it might be the actual oxygen sensor that’s bad. Bank 1 and bank 2 usually refers to a side of the engine. Being a V8 you have two sides to the V bank 1 side and bank 2 side. Sometimes if it reads bank 1 and bank 2 lean or rich. It could be a mass airflow sensor, it could be a vacuum leak somewhere. When you plug it in you’d probably want to read the data from those sensors as well to hopefully determine if any of them are giving false readings which would cause the lean or rich condition that your oxygen sensors are picking up. I have a LS460 that the valve cover gaskets leaked so much on one side of the engine it ruined the O2 sensor. So it wasn’t a problem with the actual engine running poorly, it was a bad sensor that was damaged by oil leaking. So you’d really need to dive in a little deeper and see what the sensors are reading and if any of them are bad. I hope that at least points you in the right direction.

    What do you think issue is for a lexus rx330 with a P0420 code? Bank 1 catalyst system

    • @alexsystems2001
      @alexsystems2001  9 місяців тому

      I am by no means an automotive mechanic. My video showed the solution to the one specific code I had with my car. However, I will throw my best guess of what that means out there.
      -To my understanding, “catalyst” means your catalytic converter. “Bank” usually refers to which side of the engine if you have a “V” engine you have exhaust coming out of each side of the engine one side would be “Bank 1” the other side would be “Bank 2”. So you have an oxygen sensor before your catalyst and after your catalyst. It compares incoming exhaust to outgoing exhaust to make sure your catalyst is doing its job. Usually if you have a code like that the oxygen sensor is detecting the catalyst isn’t doing its job. So it very well could possibly be a failed catalytic converter or the oxygen sensor associated with “Bank 1”. Usually from a good scan tool someone can read get the readings from the oxygen sensors and make sure they are reading correctly to help better narrow it down. I hope that at least provides a direction to look but again, I’m not an automotive mechanic and I don’t know anything about your specific car but my best guess if everything else was functioning normally I would have to guess a bad catalytic converter.

    • @alexsystems2001
      @alexsystems2001  3 роки тому

      I’m glad it worked! As for the heater, no I haven’t had any issues with it, I know there are some delicate diverter type things in the ducts that open and close behind the dash for directing it to certain vents (face, feet, defrost) so there could possibly be an issue with one of those sticking, on my SC430 I had an issue just once with the air conditioner only blowing out by the front windshield. I shut off the car for a bit, went in and had lunch, went back out and it has worked fine every since. There could also possibly have been an air bubble in the beater core behind the dash. That could happen. Please check back in and let us know what you find out.

    • @alexsystems2001
      @alexsystems2001  4 роки тому

      Nikki Awesome oops! That’s not good, I had a mechanic on an old car I owned do a “factory modification” of soldering a wire to the frame to raise the idle. I got quite frustrated with that because that wasn’t a fix, the problem of a poor idle was still there. I’m just throwing it out there, I didn’t get my gas cap from autozone or orielly not because they don’t have good gas caps, but for the potential of a bad gas cap. I figured if I put a factory gas cap on and my problem still existed then it is definitely something else. If I put a aftermarket gas cap on (I have gotten bad alternators and shocks from autozone) and it is bad but I don’t think it is bad, then I take it to a mechanic and spend hundreds if not thousands to try to fix other things thinking “I just put a new gas cap on” and end up finding it is the gas cap, I would be pretty upset.
      Example, I had an issue with my battery going dead, traced it to my alternator not charging correctly. I put a new alternator in from autozone. A couple weeks later my battery was dead, I said “the alternator can’t be bad again” so I was ready to replace the battery, autozone tested the battery and it checked out good, turns out the alternator was bad, they tested the other 2 they had in stock they were bad too. So I was ready to shell out money for an new battery, turns out the new alternator was bad, went to Mercedes, put a new alternator in and it’s been good every since.
